This is not new information coming from Sony and the developers team that works on EverQuest. If anyone here is an EverQuest fan like myself, you'd know that a few years ago in EverQuest1 a guild was caught using a device to kill bosses. This device was an instant lifetapping rod that the tank or anyone in the raid could use that would kill bosses in a matter of minutes and heal the tank/casters. While investigating this, the guild was disbanded, and the person who gave this person the item was a GM. I'm not sure if the GM was fired, but the guild was disbanded and banned, either to cover their tracks or because Sony found it wrong.
The honest truth is this however, if you were the one getting advice from GM's and Developers on how to beat a game, then whats the point of playing? For real, if your getting items like this, whats the purpose of playing the game? You have effectively wasted your life. You haven't learned anything, accomplished anything, or done anything amazing. While others may praise you for killing bosses, in the end your just a pathetic existance of a human being.
Yep Neo, we will never agree on this specific issue. Calling this corruption or cheating, calling the devs dirtbags and calling for them to get terminated from employment seriously trivializes actual cheaters, corruption, and people who take advantage of others. All I am asking for is to understand that terminating a person from employment is a an extremely radical action that affects not only the person, but his family including children, wife/husband. For what? he gave out a strategy to a video game? C'mon...
No one's gameplay was ever affected - the gear gained by the raid boss is on a PvE server so cannot be used against another player. The only thing that I do understand is in the terms of world firsts. If this indeed was one of them. If so, take that honor away from the guild.
One side note, if a strategy site like eq2i publishes strategy articles, isnt that a better analogy as to what the developer actually did?
I might of cared what you posted had you had some kind of veteranacy(new word) but the fact that this is your 2nd post your just here to flame at your fustrations. Developers leak stuff because to be honest you think someone is really finding out everything that is posted on eq2.wikia.com on there own? How do you think the blood code was founded on Mortal Kombat for the sega genesis it was LEAKed come on man. If your ranking your guild to be the best no amount of Dev help will make another guild surpass your own. You will still be the best guild.
and you are somehow better than someone because you spend more time on forums? LOL! i've never heard of such ignorance.
WOW heres another ingnorant one. If you read along you will see this guy Does Play eq2 and is still enjoying it and trying to tell you hey Let me flame this game and tell you not to play. So yes i can pick a phoney out when on his 2nd post he makes a dang I HATE EQ2 DEVS suck page when the dude enjoys the game and cant wait till Warhammer comes out. So yeah im ignorant. oh and btw It was a flame bogus post by a OP who loves the game. So please stay away.
Okay, so now we are using the analogy that an SOE developer playing the game (that he developed by the way) is equivalent to a government contractor giving out NDA information. Hmmm.... That's both logical and fair. The fact that the developer is actually using the software he is developing in whatever manner he sees rises to the level of government corruption. Yeah, right. And the fact that a developer who has created his own code base, is hired by a company who owns said code base for whatever reason is the same as government officials disclosing private information. yeah... right. Some people seriously need to get out of their basements and get some perspective.
i never said anything about government and leaking, but nice comparison anyway *cough*
nice trolling @ the last line

But at the same time you can't expect them not to. Im sure every MMO is doing it they just haven't disgrunted the wrong person who would post this information or they are smarter then SOE Devs by not letting the guild know. *claps* Bravo.
Btw, to the person that said that giving out inside info would get you fired no matter how small the info, thats a load of crap.
Here's some inside info about hotels (where I work)... you know why hotels say they'll give you a deal if you call them directly or their central res line rather than booking your rooms online? Because the hotel stands to make more money that way. The online res sites like Expedia make commission the way a travel agent does (because thats what they are) so the hotel actually makes significantly less than what the customer sees. The hotel asks you to book with them because they stand to make more money.
There... do you think I'd get fired for telling you that? No. Its an important bit of information, but its not going to get me fired. I might get asked not to do it again (if my boss ever sees it) but I won't get fired for it.
Not everything is a firing type of offense and what the dev did isn't the end of the world and it isn't worth being fired over something so small. Its a stupid tactic on a stupid video game. Get over it.

Yes, If I were owner of your particular hotel chain, and knew who you were and read this.... you would be fired. Guess it is a good thing I am not huh?
Maybe I am just old and old school about work ethic, but to me a "mistake" or light offense is coming in 10 minutes late for work. Leak information and break your work agreement? Get out of my site your fired.
Tell the public that tid bit of information so my company might stand to lose tons of money.... you bet your ass your out the door.
This is what is wrong with society and particular americans today.
Oh! it's ok to be mediocre in eveything I do. Surely no one cares if I do not do what I am suppose to do and just do whatever in the hell I feel like.... I swear.
I have a couple of questions - a) Was this sanctioned; ie, is this part of official development policy? If so, this dev is getting a rough ride. It should be the company that receives complaints... If it was it was one of those things, Do it but if you get caught I don't know what your talking about. b) Is this standard practice in other MMOs? ie, does wow test etc the same way? Yes, I know WoW does they just havn't been dumb enough to get caught. c) is there anything actually at stake in this 'competition' to kill the boss first? From what I read, the guild got praise on the official website for being superstars and some all-singing super reward popped up. I didn't know it was a competition. If they recieve items in game that no one can get then yes burn SOE HQ, but if all they got was mob defeated by - such an such - then who cares. d) Is anyone else's experience lessened? Maybe so, maybe so... then again, as I could never dream of having the time to spend all those hours playing I am not sure what drives the full-time no sleep players. Well thats why you can be like me and thats a 2-3 hour casual player who enjoys the game without the grind. Its so much more rewarding. e) Are MMOs improved by coopting high level guilds, and allowing them to play through content on a privileged basis? Perhaps.. we all argue that player feedback should be listened to. But I am not sure what is being tested when the answer to riddle is given out a priori.. Don't know if it improves the game if a high level guild is given information but it certainly isn't destroyed. Just makes me angry it wasn't me. But think of it this way. Would Mortal Kombat for the Genesis been a sellar if the DEVs didn't tell the cheat code for blood?
1. This information was leaked. I assume by that you mean that information was given without company approval. You dont know and neither do I. I read that NPU was doing testing on the encounter when the San Diego fires were occuring. Therefore, they were given these explicit instructions to test the encounter. I actually think that this more likely than a large conspiracy theory about making one developers guild look good with detailed encounter mechanics.
2. This broke the work agreement that Sony had with the developer. If indeed this was a test case encounter than the work agreement would have explicitly requested this action to be taken by the developer. In this case, whatever supposed wrong-doing, is not applicable.
Before we start calling people dirtbags and ask for their jobs, perhaps we should get all the information. Thats the problem with Non-Americans, they always think the worst os us before the evidence is in.
Look at theemail EQ2Flames itself provides. http://www.eq2flames.com/general-gameplay/22042-eq2-flames-consolidated-developer-information-list-12.html#post502907 Last time I checked I can't type /zone and jump to a location or type /spawn to get that mythical item. This is obviously meant for inhouse testing. And the people posting this are most likely under NDA. Maybe they got a third party guild to test, but this does not prove to me it's cheating. Added to the fact we don't know who wrote that. and we are just going on eq2flames word that is was a member of a 3rd party guild. For all we know this is from a disgruntled quality assurance tester.
look at the date of that mail (Thu, 25 Oct 2007) that mail was sent during beta phase for rok. they had some hardcore guilds on beta server for betatesting raidencounters then. the description of encounter is a bit too detailed for what i would give out to a live guild that tests, it looks more like a inhouse mail to testing department. but maybe the dev just sent the same mail to the guilds betatesting and the inhouse testers.
I do not agree with that practice to give some guilds special infos and some advantage if that mail was really sent to a guild. But i must also say that it still took the guild some months to kill that dragon so that info was not all that was needed to kill it.
anyway there is no really big award for winning that fight they had a drop from that dragon that everyone agreed on that it was subpar compared to drops of easier encounters. Only thing that guild got for their ww first is the possibility to brag that they were first to kill it.
If that dragon did drop some artifact item that only drops once per server then i would understand the big mess thats made about this more, but as there was no real advantage over anyone else taht kills it a week later or even a month later cause they can get same drops. Thats why i don't understand that chaos, but maybe thats cause i never went that hardcore in mmos. And we more casual players will be happy if we ever kill trakanon before next expansion is released (whcih is very unlikely even if we know the full strategy), I personally would be happy if my guild can get to vp and kill the mobs needed for epics before next expansion.
My God there where so many spelling and grammatical errors in this post i thought a ton of Asians where spamming the post (no offence to any Asian's i was making a valid statement which is MANY Asians who do not natively speak English have a hard time pronouncing certain words and also have difficulty using words in the right context which is entirely understandable because English as a Language has a lot of silly 'RULES' that you have to follow when speaking/writing and or typing.).Oh and as for the original post,it wasn't fair but it is JUST a game so the next time you hit "up,down, left, right,Select" remember that .

roflmao... no you wouldn't. Why? Because I'd protest and win, thats why. Grow up.
{Adele Caelia}: On a lighter note, we have some BIG changes coming up in the game! The expansion will be out September 13th, and everyone is super excited. Do you plan on participating in the expansion? What hopes do you have for its outcome?
NPU - Some of our members have been participating in beta for some weeks now, and we have been impressed. Deep and interesting progression quests, expansive and varied new zones and especially the raid zones have captured our enthusiasm. We don't plan on merely participating, but competing fiercely for every raid-related world first.
Now I don't know how they select people to beta the expansions, but his is an interview EQ2vault did and they seemed pretty open about whatever raid they were testing. When did RoK come out again?
So someone got upset becuase they figured out that if you join the betas for the expansions you are given everything you need to know about the raids. Now thier pissed to find out that some insane, hardcore PvE, cult already knew this.
Basically people are getting pissed cause someone fed them some misleading information for the sole purpose of "getting even" with SoE.
You want to make it so that players can't test this stuff? Cool, but then you'll be the first back crying that it needed to be tested better. The best testers are the players, they are the most critical and are entirely detached from the code. I've noticed that when a game is internally tested it usually gets released with more bugs and problems. A life long friend is a QA guy for a software company that writes realestate apps. I would much prefer players test. My boy is good at his job, but thier clients always find things he missed; often he says it's dumb stuff he simply overlooked because he was tired.
The solution is to get on test and test this stuff with them. I can only assume that the same oportunities are available to everyone else. If they have been specifically chosen to do this stuff because they have proven to be good at it, then I would suggest that you join or start a guild more dedicated then these guys.
Or is this not the guild in question and I'm just an ass? Well, I could be right, I'd still be an ass.
Regardless of the right and wrongs of this..SOE are made to look like chumps again..the mind boggles it really does, you'd think after the SWG fiasco they'd learn how to "do" pr
This coming from someone who actually thinks SOE makes a couple of good games as well.

That is what you call inside information about hotel industries? It isn't some big secret that third party reservation sites MAKE MONEY off their service and that fee comes out of what you pay for booking the reservation. That really isn't a big secret and there are other reasons hotels work with big booking agencies, but that is another story.
You analogies in no way relate to what is being discussed at all.

rofl... you're funny... one person says he'd fire me for telling people that and another says its not related in any way.... how amusing.
I can't help that he didn't understand your analogy, but it still in no way relates to what has happened. You would in fact be doing the hotel a favor if you booked rooms at a higher revenue than those offered by travel websites.
Again, that really isn't some super secret of the hotel industry is it?
I just recently heard about this EQ2 'corruption'. I thankyou for sharing the information as I would imagine it would be very interesting and perhaps important for people who are considering subscribing to EQ2. Im stil very new to EQ2 and im loving the game. It has some really great features and as I have said in the past, at the moment it's one of my top three favourite MMO's. I can imagine that this corruption is a very big and serious issue, especially for hardcore vets of the game who are a part of the big name guilds. However at the moment, a situation like this does not and never will have any effect on me at all in EQ2. I am still loving the game, enjoying the adventure and I admire everything that SOE has accomplished with this great game (in my opinion). I am sure many other EQ2 fans will agree with me. Fair enough, you are a little angry about the situation but I dont think it's right do go out and tell everyone not to 'waste their time' with a certain game. Fans of EQ2 dont see the game as a waste of time. Thats like me saying 'Dont waste your time with WoW because I dont like it!' Just doesn't work that way. I dont think anyone is going to read your post and actually do what you tell them to do with THEIR lives. Anyway just wanted to share my thoughts. I dont think this game is a waste of time. I think it's a blast and I hope all the fans will keep playing.
I'll say again EQ2 is the best MMO on the market IMO,but as ever SOE just cant help shooting themselves in the foot with regards to PR,they just seem to revel in it and where paying customers are concerned and with 2 big games and an expansion to WOW on the horizon they'll need to keep em sweet to keep sub numbers up not hand out bad publicity like this to the masses.
If they wanted rid of eq2 flames thats thier deal but there are ways and means of doing so..SOE's approach was to hammer a nail into the issue and hope they'd come out ok..truth is they havent, not by a long way.
For me though EQ2 fales cards where marked when they ran the story of the guild being switched over from test to live and thus forcing the new producer into a lame appology, from that moment to me at least this has been coming.
I can't help that he didn't understand your analogy, but it still in no way relates to what has happened. You would in fact be doing the hotel a favor if you booked rooms at a higher revenue than those offered by travel websites.

Daff, I just flipped what he/she said around on accident when I typed it out.
The main point to it all is, in business corruption is corruption. The extent of the corruption doesn't matter.
Just as I was trying to get the point across to Ironman that leaking information is leaking information no matter how big or small. IMO your a rat either way, you might as well be an FBI informant rolling over on the mafia in my eyes.
I tried to use the analogy of where I work vs the soe dev and his job. This is very skewed because where I work leaked information is a big deal, the soe dev leak not so much, but it still had a negative impact so it needs to be delt with.
In business this guys boss, which most people higher than a peon in a business situation, should and would be within his rights to fire this rat dev. He cause a ruckus in game and also a huge slap to the face for SOE PR. Like I stated SOE has a big enough problem with PR they do not need more.
As far as the hotel worker poster, I would have never hired him/her in the first place, just based off her comments, first impression is female, probably blonde, like totally for real! type, very rude, with a superiority complex. One of those people when you meet in RL you would rather choke than actually have to listen to what they are saying.

There... do you think I'd get fired for telling you that?
I swear.
You are making two big assumptions here Neo -
Yelling about firing a guy for doing his job.
HIS JOB!
Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Wish Darkfall would release.
look at the date of that mail (Thu, 25 Oct 2007) that mail was sent during beta phase for rok. they had some hardcore guilds on beta server for betatesting raidencounters then. the description of encounter is a bit too detailed for what i would give out to a live guild that tests, it looks more like a inhouse mail to testing department. but maybe the dev just sent the same mail to the guilds betatesting and the inhouse testers.
The hotel asks you to book with them because they stand to make more money.

roflmao... no you wouldn't.

Wish Darkfall would release.

Sadly some people cant see past the trees when a company has overreacted
*shrugs* could be wrong.
and before you ask.. Yes I am.
