Neither of the alternatives. The reason why I'm awaiting this game with high anticipation is mainly because it's a MMORPG, but so are many other games coming this year, why this one? WAR's focus on PvP and RvR got me hooked directly. As a fan of PvP I directly got interested by this game when I heard about it, it seemed like this was the game where I could finally get my fix of PvP, something I didn't get enough of in WoW. In WoW I realized I wanted more PvP and more balanced such, when I saw WAR I realized that was the game I had dreamed of; lots of good, fun, balanced PvP.
For me it's because of the Warhammer Lore. I played the pen and paper RPG, 40K, Epic, Fantasy and the PC titles amongst other games like Talisman.
I'm still waiting for the movie to come out - maybe one day as some projects were droped others started but beside not knowing much about it I know it's not Games Worshop related. So in the end I guess you could say that I'm a die hard fan (since the late 80s).
DAoC never got me really interested although I liked their RvR and Siege concept. If I'm not mistaken Mythic was the first to do it so that must show some inovation from their devs (I know Shadowbane also had RvR... but no Siege).
Anyway what I was try to say is that I was first all in it because it's Warhammer but since it's development I really appreciated what they've been doing.
The only reason I still glance occasionnally at this title, it is because it is Warhammer.
These devs are wackos and I won't be playing their game unless they change CORE aspect to make sure someone can be happy in PvE. But they won't. They want everyone with a focus to RvR. They can't change my focus in games now...
I don't care if 5% of their game is geared toward PvE...it must be FREE from RvR(and raiding) and then I will support it. Without such a freedom, I won't put on shackles willingly.
I also hope the game has good PvE. I thought the PvE part of DAoC was good. Lot's of interesting dungeons, mobs, and grouping was good. PvE with an 8 man group was great.
I think Anofayle is saying that it should be an option to PvE, without getting ganked. I'll be really surprised if that's not an option in WAR.
Most remember DAoC. It was an ideal set up. You could PvE if you wanted in your realm, and not be bothered by RvR, not worry about getting ganked while you were busy working on some PvE goal.
If you wanted a little more excitement, you could go PvE in the frontier. You could still work on your PvE goals, but you might run into the enemy, which made it more exciting.
Then if you wanted PvP, you could go to a battleground, or go attack a keep, go to the enemies frontier, or whatever.
I know WAR won't be exactly the same, but I'm expecting something similar.
The only reason I still glance occasionnally at this title, it is because it is Warhammer.

So, even just sitting and doing PvE quests, you are still participating in RvR. You are not fighting other people, but every action taken in this game helps your side achieve victory points which helps.
My guess is Anofalye can't tell the difference between PvE, PvP, and RvR in this game, and is just complaining due to a lack of information.
I am a huge old school Warhammer fan. I played the tabletop miniture game for a few years and the pnp rpg for a lot of years. Plus all the Warhammer RTS's. The company that initially started to develop the MMO had me incredibly excited about the project. They seemed to have thier finger directly on the pulse of the game. Warhamer is dark gritty evil and not a very nice place to live. Thier magic system based on all the information that was available on the website seemed to be the most intense and challenging I had ever seen. I was extremely dissapointed when they stopped development due to financial and publisher issues.
I was happy to see that it was picked up again. However I am a bit leary about having Mythic develop it. I played DAoC for a few months. Got high enough to venture into the pvp and quest around a bit. It was a decent game and if I didn't have so many other things on my plate at the time I probably would have played it for a while longer. The thing that made me feel a bit trepiditious about thier taking over the game is I did not think they would be able to escape thew format that they are familiar with to truly do the game world justice.
The graphics that I have seen so far seem a little to cartoony and not dark enough. The pvp seems interesting. But having it being RVR centric will take quite a bit away from the shadyness and overall grey moral area that everyone in the Warhammer world walks in. If you are playing a Witchhunter you should be able to hunt and kill any caster that you want regardless of realm. If you are a Bounty Hunter you should be able to hunt and kill any player that follows a criminal career path.
I am still going to be first in line to buy it when it comes out. And I will do everything that I can to set aside any prejudice I might feel and play the game as it stand and for what it is worth. I am hoping that it will be an engrossing and engaging gaming experiance that will redefine how I play MMO's.
SOME of the best rewards are given exclusively in RvR. If you REALLY support PvE-grouping, then a player would not be better rewarded to go OUTSIDE of this activity.

If I play WAR it won't be because Mythic developed it. Considering the DEVs have demonstrated the ability to totally ruin a MMO. Also considering they now fall under EA It has two big whammies going against it not for it. I'd say add a third option. Play it because its a new MMO. Although I have being paying attention to dev interviews and it sounds like they have learned from thier mistakes.
That is your opinion. I don't think ToA or NF was a mistake.
HEAVEN FORBID I EXPRESS MY OPINION IN A THREAD THAT ASKS FOR MY OPINION!!!
In my opinion, 60% of the reason its hyped so much is the fact that its warhammer... Maybe 20% because its by the creators of DAoC. 10% because it looks so good. 10% because there's nothing else better coming out there (Other than a few upcoming MMOs)
I personally am waiting for warhammer, I hope its good.
ya thats about right. the main reason i wanted to play was because it is warhammer. second reason i need to pk and loot from pvp FTW!

Because its Mythic, and DAoC still has the best PvP on the market. Well....it is EAMythic now, and all EA has done since the merge has been to streamline and make DAoC more like WoW, so theres a huge chance EA could fuck this one over.
I could care less about warhammer IP.... its the team.
You could have the same dev crew make a fantasy based mmorpg based on rvr with my little pony vs rainbow brite vs carebears in a 3 way realm vs realm battle royal....
and I would STILL be sitting up here, doing the same amount of talking and I would care just as much.
I know I would totally be playing the Rainbow brite realm... the red butler class looks like it would be awesome and i cant wait to pwn little carebears in the face with my color attacks!!
but seriously, wouldnt most of you guys like a DAoC 2.0? the 3 way war thing was just WAY to cool. but take everything you learned that went wrong with daoc... make new classes with most of the same classes, and make it have perfect balance and expand the lore... yeah we would love it!
I do not understand how anyone can say the "devs" ruined DAoC....
in hindsight ALL of the changes they made were the right ones for the game... they just came at bad times.
like saying... oh no, new frontires ruyined the game!!!" but in hindsight it expanded what we did and made it better and wider and more balanced.
ToA? it was pulled .... why arent you playing the game?
to me the production was good, the dev was good, the team that decided when to launch what and all was the problem and the community pushing the panic button, was what ruined the game... oh and us media types ruined the game too. talking about the sky is falling.

Considering the classic servers have consistantly more players. Considering Mythic has had to cluster the servers just to have enough players to make NF work.
EA has two(UO and DAoC) under thier wing and they are riding both of them in to the ground. I'll put it this way...
Would you put WAR up against a DAoC 2? Would you put DAoC 2 or WAR up against a UO 2?
IMO UO 2 would pull in subs just because it was UO. Heck, I would subscribe to UO 2 without ever seeing a screenshot.
Both Mythic and EA has made some boneheaded decisions and I'm not the only one with that opinion.

If they came out with new graphics and new map... but used the OLD style keeps in the new locations (with no towers) then 6 months later put in new keeps where the old keeps used to be... then 3 months later added towers..... it would have been a slow gradual change and the community wouldnt have went into "shock" by the huge and sudden change.

Yes there are some Devs from Mythic working on the game, but if you read and learned a few things yourself they are keeping true to the lore of Warhammer.

I highlighted a word in your repost to me to point out what I said. you said "IMPLEMENTATION" as the problem. see I agree with you. but the problem is, you also are driving home my point. the dev's main job is not to implement new concepts, its just to develop, hence why they have the name "devs"
the IDEA of the new classes were all good. trust me, its hard to balance ANY game, much less a game with 33 classes. hell WoW couldnt even add new races without it causing a problem.
but the "idea" of the savage was good. give the melee realm an extra tank class. but make it not the same as other tanks and give it a novel idea such as burning its own blood to cause more damage and make it wreckless. it was initially out of balance, but eventually the DEVs hit it with the nerf bat. as for bolt range aoe nuke wipe an entire group, it was actually one or the other, insta POINT BLANK aoe OR bolt... there was no insta kill an entire group with a warlock spell. please no need to exagerate and refer to the camelot spell library for a list of actual spells and abilities
but I like the concept of a warlock. a caster that couldnt cast spells, but had 1 or 2 spells that it casted very well and instantly, but couldnt do anything until after a fight was over. thats a total glass cannon. Im not saying its perfect but its a good idea. the arcane mage in wow is much worse because it can insta kill and still cast normal spells+ cc + defend itself.... yeah that was horrid. but Mythic nerfs all mistakes it makes. they dont let things linger, fester and get worse. thats why I like them as a dev team. now I just hope they have learned from mistakes and impliment and execute new ideas better.
The only reason I still glance occasionnally at this title, it is because it is Warhammer.

ok i have a problem when i see a moron like this posting. 1 If u take out raiding and rvr what do u have?
if u want to know the answer it is You have a stand alone game with no mobs and nothing in it but some art you can run around in.
ok i looked this up for you
A raid is a type of mission in a video game where the objective is to use a very large number of people, relative to a normal team size set by the game to defeat a boss. <-- explains why u are play a MMORPG
Items drops from raids can often be very rewarding. Sometimes the items droped from a raid boss can be a unique, or maximum stats item, giving players or the game a INCENTIVE to PARTICIPATE.
ok i got the perfect game for you a game like Myst but take all the puzzles out of it so you can be a hand with no stats. Now u are board right well not really since u want to play with friends we will make it a mmo for you so u can have tons of hands floating around doing nothing!!!!

but I like the concept of a warlock. a caster that couldnt cast spells, but had 1 or 2 spells that it casted very well and instantly, but couldnt do anything until after a fight was over. thats a total glass cannon. Im not saying its perfect but its a good idea. the arcane mage in wow is much worse because it can insta kill and still cast normal spells+ cc + defend itself.... yeah that was horrid. but Mythic nerfs all mistakes it makes. they dont let things linger, fester and get worse. thats why I like them as a dev team. now I just hope they have learned from mistakes and impliment and execute new ideas better.
ok i have a problem when i see a moron like this posting.
No disrespect to the WARHAMMER franchise fans but I was never a big fan.
Not a big fan of the RTS or the miniatures. I have nothing against them its just not something that ever caught my eye.
However Im a HUGE DAOC fan and although I dont play anymore I have fond adrenalin filled memories of keep sieges and RvR of DAOC.
Its nice that MYTHIC has good models and history to work with, but its the reputation of MYTHIC and DAOC that sold me with this game from the start.
If this game was IMPERATOR, I would still be playing it.
