Originally posted by WootNation In my opinion, 60% of the reason its hyped so much is the fact that its warhammer... Maybe 20% because its by the creators of DAoC. 10% because it looks so good. 10% because there's nothing else better coming out there (Other than a few upcoming MMOs)
I personally am waiting for warhammer, I hope its good.
I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree with you.
Its possible its hyped so much because of Warhammer but most of the people I know that are excited about this game are ex DAOC'ers. Mythic has a mmo under there belt. Its still successful and still going.
Without the RvR element that Mythic has brought to the table, its my opinion that this game would be an all out flop and I wouldnt give it a second look.
I think i can say both. I played and loved DAOC, but also love the warhammer lore etc. I would lean more towards it being Mythic though. My wife who also plays MMO s was playing AC while i played DAOC from the start. She was always wondering what DAOC was about but didn t want to switch games because she loved AC and didn t like pvp at all. I then got her into DAOC a couple years later but it wasn t in it s peak. She loved it and is now probably more hyped about WAR then i am which is hard to do because i m really hyped lol. Anyways i m glad her and i will be playing this game from the start together and with alot of riends from previous games who are all coming over together. All in all imo the lore will draw more people over to WAR then alot of people think . As long as Mythic delivers the fun i had in DAOC and better pve i m happy. I know they will tough so i m just waiting till a release date is announced
The only reason I still glance occasionnally at this title, it is because it is Warhammer.
These devs are wackos and I won't be playing their game unless they change CORE aspect to make sure someone can be happy in PvE. But they won't. They want everyone with a focus to RvR. They can't change my focus in games now...
I don't care if 5% of their game is geared toward PvE...it must be FREE from RvR(and raiding) and then I will support it. Without such a freedom, I won't put on shackles willingly.
As far as I know, the PvE portion of th game can be played without entering PVP/RVR. I believe it depends on the type of quest as well. For the majority there are safe quests you can do alone and advance through the tiers, without having to do any, or at least little PVP. Other quests may be group or public ones which may consist of scenarios or even crossing into the RVR areas to be completed.
Either way from what I have read, you can play the game through the tiers by only doing "safe" quests, and still be contributing to the overall endgame. On the other hand you can do only RVR and reach the same similar result.
Ulimately though i believe it is intended to try to attract more people towards trying out pvp, which seems to be what the game is "based" upon and may be where the best rewards are. I think there will be a decent balance between both PvP and PvE in order to appease to the masses.
edit. The "safe" areas of course will be pending on the server type, as Open RVR may be a bit different then say a Core Ruleset server, but these are yet to be determined.

Bang on . You can play this game completely in pve but is inteneded to be better to do both. If someone wants to just rvr or just pve you will miss out on some stuff. It can be done though.
emm i play warhammer table top, and 90 % of my friends who play will not get this game, they say warhammer should have never been made into pc games...meh
Ive never got a thrill from a mmo like i did when i played DOAC.The RVR would make my heart pound in excitement.I've played other mmos PVP and it so lacking any meaning.I hope warhammer can bring back the thrill of real PVP. If you played DOAC then you no what im talking about. No other game has matched there PVP.

Palo-Midgard
I also an tracking this game due to the RvR/Mythic aspect. If they can take DAOC prior to ToA and improve upon it....woot!

I'm with you all the way. I was there at the beginning and it was a huge eye-opener for me. This wasn't mindless PvP with a few people running around and jumping like headless chickens. RvR really is a very different goal-oriented kind of experience that helps you feel like you're part of a nation.
There was pride in planning and executing a relic keep raid or in rallying all available troops from all the different PvE areas to come help defend our relics when they caught us unaware.
I specially liked how holding and capturing relics influenced the magical or melee power in PvE as well as RvR. Mythic did a great job with the design of DAoC.
The Warhammer tie-in is just gravy for me.

I'm interested because Mythic made DAoC and I very much enjoyed the RvR part of that game. Played DAoC starting in European beta and stayed with the game for about 2 years or so.
Actually I would have liked a DAoC 2 much more than a game based on the Warhammer franchise.

this goes to show that this forum is not an accurate representation of the gamer population. since albion outnumbered hibernia and midgard almost 3/1 at the height of the game. yet in this poll mids double up albs? that didnt happen on any server in the history of daoc!
so for all of you complaining there will be too many chaos because all of the former mids want to play chaos and be evil again.... I think your looking at things skewed

for me its probably the combination of it being warhammer and mythic
played daoc for a couple of years, loved rvr, best pvp experience no contest

Because its Warhammer
None of the above, because I like the game concept and the idea of RVR.
It could be called penguins of the jungle and I would still give it a try.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I wish it was Warhammer 40K. I'm most excited about this game, because I'm hoping it's as good as DAOC was pre-TOA. The best game ever.

For me, it was Both. I loved Daoc, and WArhammer is just my style o game
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
My answer.. Both. Im a big fan of the Warhammer Universe and of Mythic and DAoC. It works out well for me.
For me, neither, I just like what I see and am bored with WoW.
First toon I ever played was a Bonedancer.
Then I played a Sorcerer and fell in love
