Seriously. I started to have symptoms even before I hit the cancel button. I tried, I really did try...but I looked back at all the other games I have played and none have me as hooked as Vanguard and I cannot bring myself to cancel! I think I need to see a shrink on this. I really do love this game and the potential of it. If Silius doesn't completely desytroy the magic that is Vanguard it'll be a miracle and Vanguard might be that great game it was meant to be. Vanguard is really that good of a game despite all the bad things Silius is doing to it - it still rocks better than any other game currently on the market.
I love the game. I hate that SOE runs it and I hate the people who are curretly in charge of its development. Good thing is...lead designers come and go on games like this very quickly and I pray that Silius's time with Vanguard is short and then we can get Avrem back or someone like him.
I am so hooked on this game. I must be sick...sick I tell you.... like in the head.

What do you like about it? And don't just say "everything".

I liked Vanguard a lot actually.... the whole two weeks I played it. But I quickly left once I got to the first big "adventure zone" area that is underground in the Human starting location. After I realised that my machine wouldn't handle it, and there was absolutely no way I was going to get a new one any time soon... I cancelled and moved on.
This post crossed with your "God made women because mens brains are broken" quote gave me a good chuckle. Thanks for the laugh Teala.
First my ranger...I love how rangers are in this game. Second I love my character. She is truly my alter ego in a world of make believe. Third...the world of Telon allows my alter ego and me to adventure in a land of beautiful landscapes. Forth...the openess of it...the complete feeling that I am free to go where I wish to and just adventure. No game since Asheron's Call has made me feel like that. I can just say today I am going over that moutain and see what I can see or find. It never fails that I find a new adventure around every corner. It is truly an epic type game unlike any that have come before it.
I love the feel for the different continents. I love the way you can adventure into a dungeon and just get lost in there. Some of them are massive.
If SOE were smart, they'd make quick work of GU5, then start adding new fluff content and work on fixing up Kojan. Then they should really make the game shine by adding mount to mount combat, ship to ship, ship to monster combat and fleshing out the oceans and seas. I am telling you. This above all the other games out there can be the game that people will flock to to play for not months...but years.
SOE needs to bring back good old dungeon crawling to these games with lots of tricks, traps, and riddles for players to overcome while adventuring into some of these dungeons. Put in the ability to use ropes and hooks, make jumping puzzles and all kinds of stuff. Things that will really make Vanguard shine brighter than any other game on the market. In my eyes it is the best game out there right now. I am serious, I recalled DAoC, AC2, AC, EQ, UO, SWG all the other previous games I have played and Vanguard is by far the best yet I have played. If they'd stick to the sandbox feel of the game and just fix the dungeons that are broke and the bugs that remain and start really adding some awesome content for all levels of play - this game will be "the game".

Couldn't agree more.
The devs will react this way:
- Cool we can do whatever we want and Teala will remain with us.
Devs are as simple as players. If you hug a dog who pooh on the floor, he will continues to pooh on the floor. It must be clear, direct, a link. This is why guilds often get their ways with devs...if 2 or 3 guilds hit the cancel buttons, devs listen. Even if these guilds are a minority and don't represent the majority in anyway, the devs, the simplest one, understand what these guilds are saying.
I feel sorry, both for you, and for Vanguard. Cause I am sure some peoples does like you...and devs never learn. They never learn about what is good, and what is not. What makes the mass plays, and what doesn't.

wb T Dont worry - Silius won't ruin VG. Its his child, he loves it, and he's doing what he can with limited resources. Remeber - he played a big part in making the game that you cant give up!
I was really going to cancel. I had my cursor over the cancel subscription and Iwas like...I can't believe you're going to do it. Then Iasked myself OK Kristi what game is going to take Vanguards place? I ran through al lthe other games I have played like Lineage II, Guild Wars, Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Shadowbane, Asheron's Call, Anarchy Online, Horizons, World of Borecraft, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Burning Sea, etc, etc, etc, and none of them can touch this game. None offer what I feel this game offers. Vanguard truly does have this epic like feel to it. I know people hate it, and I know others do not feel as I do about it...but it really is how I feel despite my love hate relationship with the developers of the game and SOE in general. God I swear if I could raise the capitol to purchase the game from SOE and then hire developers to work on the game - OMG....I'd do it in a heart beat that is how much I love the game and how much potential I see in it. ::shrugs:: Call me crazy...doesn't matter...I found my game - finally found the one game that I truly do love to play and you know what I am sticking with it. I'll endure the Silius's and the Smedley's and the broken promises and everything else I have to because I really enjoy this game.
I thought the game kicked ass during my short time playing it but unfortunately the friends I usually play MMO's with couldn't run it on their PC's.
Thats it just one click....... and it will all be over .............. go on , you can do it ....... you can ... one click and you'll be free ........................
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I can't do it!
It would mske me and then I'd go . Besides I the game despite the controlling entity that runs it.
I am glad you are staying Teala. It is people like you who are passionate about the game that help make the Vanguard community a posative influence on the game.
Here is a question...Why were you going to cancel in the first place?I was really going to cancel. I had my cursor over the cancel subscription and Iwas like...I can't believe you're going to do it. Then Iasked myself OK Kristi what game is going to take Vanguards place? It doesn't sound to me like you "finally found the game for you" seeing as you had already found it, played it, and were ready to cancel.
Maybe it's like one of those movies where a guy and girl meet, become best friends, and then right when the girl is getting married the guy realizes he loves the girl and then shows up at the wedding and ruins the potential grooms life by stealing the woman he loves.....yeah, maybe it s something like that =P
Not likely, if that was true we would have seen servers added today. Vanguard would have ket the initial 200k buyers and have continued growing. But that was quite obviously not the case.
Or are you somehow referring to the massive commercial success (you think) this game is?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
why do you hate soe for running it? What other company was going to run this? dont worry ill wait. Microsoft bailed on this game and i think SOE just bought it as a favor to brad or whatever the desisigner was.
withdrawls? to vanguard?
Oh boy.

I felt the same way Teala, I guess my willpower was just stronger. HOWEVER if they can finally get the hitching under control (and no it is not currently under control, no it does not just hitch/stutter the first time you enter an area then its smooth) Then I will play it again in a heart beat.
Now it would be my luck that they get the performance truely fixed, the hitching gone and I start playing again in earnest just to find the population has dwindled to the point where there are no groups, no economy.....hmm.

<+MMORPGBot> dafuzzle asks, "what are your plans for the future in Vanguard?"
<+Gebron> Well we've sort of answered the question from a gameplay standpoint, but I can speak to the technical side of the fence.
<+Gebron> As you've no doubt noticed, we've made great strides in improving frame rate in the game, and next we're tackling hitching.
<+Gebron> We're about to start testing code which greatly, and I do mean greatly, reduces hitching in the game. We're not done with it, and we're excited enough about the result that we may be releasing it in phases rather than make you wait...
<+Gebron> the inevitable goal is to try and get the game to where it practically never hitches. We're getting close! The change to how the game feels without hitching is... oh so sweet!
"If SOE were smart, they'd make quick work of GU5, then start adding new fluff content and work on fixing up Kojan. Then they should really make the game shine by adding mount to mount combat, ship to ship, ship to monster combat and fleshing out the oceans and seas. "
Way back in the first month of the game, Sigil was being interviewed and one developer said that the game was always intended to have mounted combat, flying combat, and ship to ship combat, and that it would DEFINETLY be added in the future. He also talked about the PvP system they were going to put into place. All that empty area in the ocean would have islands and territories that you can wage wars over, and instanced arena, and a battleground was also planned. This was back when patches were almost daily, before SOE took over and patches became every 4 months. Vanguard is one of my favorite games to date, took me back to my Dark Age of Camelot days, but SOE is ruining it quickly.
I saw a letter to the community recently and after reading it I vowed to never install Vanguard again. I love the world of Telon, the horses, the flying, the dungeons, the epic feel of freedom and exploration, the classes are all fun and unique, but the game is going downhill. Its being made easier at every turn. It started with the removal of EE and addition of BOP. This isn't WoW, I don't want my items to bind on pickup!! Then experience gains were made faster, soon death penalty will be less severe... downhill fast. Don't believe me? Read this. this is why I quit the game forever.

The "Vision" is dead. Its been stabbed in the heart and pissed on.
Darkfall Travelogues!
I came back after being gone 9 months. I will play until AoC comes out.
I will say this; Vanguard has 3 major strengths, that other MMO's dont really come close too.
#1 Openess. Its SO vast and feels like a huge world. Different parts of the world are VERY unique.
#2 Environment. Just ravishingly beautiful. The greatest environmental graphics ever in an MMO. The water, mountains, ground, sky, etc. The models arent the best, but the environment is.
#3 Combat. the many different abilitys you get. Lots of variety. You get reaction things to hit, and special critical hit icons to hit. Combat is very good.
*praise* our lord Brad Mcquaid...
C'mon don't try to remake the history, after the first month of the game people (on this forum, on that forum, on those forums) said those things they stated (SIgil/BM) was just ...nothing...
But ofc now in retrospective we can pick up those promises made, talk about them being the truth. As now it in that way serves a better purpuse in some other arguments.
Heck in 3-5 years people like you will follow another game from Brad Mcwauid with reference to the great game VG:SOH.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I always gave SOE credit for focusing on performance and stability, but they concurrently turned the game into a snoozer whereas it used to be a challenge. I think everyone wants a stable game, that performs well and has few bugs, but the change of direction that occurred when Brad left is what drove me to quit.
I was willing to send in /bug reports and even occasional CTDs for the opportunity to play a challenging and engaging game. Slow progress isn't unacceptable. What was unacceptable to me was how SOE made unnecessary changes to the gameplay. I'm sure they see them as necessary to gain subs but I disagree, and if that is their philosophy, then you know to expect more changes to simplify the game. This was my thinking in September and SOE has proven me right with each update since then.
BTW, when I was playing in Dec, many bugs were still present and they were using the customer service department as a workaround (/petition for your quest update or quest item). Is this still the case?
