You don't have to buy the game, just pay the monthly subscription which makes it even cooler.  On a side note, Eve is a game for people with brains..

yeah well just wait until you have to wait 15 days to train to lvl 5 something so you can fly a ship, just to figure out you need to train 17 days to get to lvl 5 something else that you need to fly the ship.... it gets ridiculous just wait...

but other than that ya the game's ok

a training path is important.  My main character I was all over the place at first then I picked it up and got a skill plan going.  my alt character is specialized.  I learned from the first character how to do it right on my second character.  like I said, you have to be able to think in this game.

Well it gives you days between skills to think what you want to learn next so you should be able to come up with something by then.

No different than having to grind levels and quests for weeks to get to use decent weapons, armor, etc. Just like in life, you have to crawl before you walk.... so don't expect that a frigate pilot should be able to fit and run a Capital Ship within a week.

Theres a sense of realism that some enjoy, and some do not. The fortunate thing here is that your skills progress even offline, while in most games I have to be present in to advance. Makes its a good game for people with "real lives".

Housam, in regards to what others are saying about setting up a training path. It is a good idea, and a great tool to help you with that is EVEMON if you haven't already checked it out.

Fortunately most people aren't as poor at planning as you seem to be. Generally when I want to train a new ship up I look up the requirements for everything that I'm planning to put on it first.

Also, many of the skills you learn are usefull for many different modules, so if you have to train a skill up to use a specific item one time, chances are that they'll be a bunch of other modules or ships that it will unlock for you as well.

Housam well I seen you been playing daoc ;)

If yo liked pvp in daoc  EvE is even better and  a little more life on the server :)

I would not train learnings skills ( only ) people that do that get bored very fast.

I would mix learning skills with the skills you need to be able to play the game.

I seen people who bought EvE then they just read the advice "train learning skills"

and after 30 days skilling only learnings skills all they have done ingame is looking at the skill blinking.

O hehe when I started EvE we didnt have all those learnings skills ;)

(hint) Do mix the skill training so you can play and do something ingame

You guys are right! I looked at this game along time ago and got curious, since I play a lot of space and war games I checked in on Eve online trial and was AMAMZED! One of the coolest MMO's ever, even though im poor I actually payed for a year to play this game, thats how great it is. But now I quit it 3 years ago since I figured it's to much money, (pssssst.... my parents wouldn't let me use their credit card anymore) lol.

really? you honestly think that stupid players can progress far in eve? i disagree.

Welcome to Eve!  Try and find some people to gang up with as soon as possible.  I have found that having other people to relly on in Eve is even more imparative then any other MMO I have played.

Also try to just ignore the people who complain about it.  Everyone has their opinions.  Eve is fun, but it is also hard so try not to let your frustration get the best of you :)!

    Enjoy your time in Eve

I have been playing EVE for about a year now and really enjoy it.  That being said the game has the most snobby community I have ever seen.   The majority of people I have encountered really do seem to think they are better then other gamers because they play EVE.  "Go back to WoW!" comments are thrown around like they are going out of style.

Can stupid people progress far in EVE?  That really depends on what you mean by progress.  A lot of the progression in EVE is measured by the size of your wallet.  You don't have to be smart in any way shape or form to progress.   You can sit in a belt and mine day in and day out and make a fortune.  Don't have to be smart to do that.  You can run missions.  Don't have to be smart to do that either.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

Yes, its true, the community at EVE is rather smug about their ability to master the game, but then, they should be, while it might be an easy game to play, it most definitely takes some skill and effort to master it.  Let's be honest, WOW can be played quite proficiently by folks as young as 10 years old. I assure you, with EVE this is definitely not the case.

I'm a reasonably bright person, a good, experienced gamer, and I've been playing EVE regularly for 9 months.  Despite the fact I read a lot, study the game when I can, I am amazed at how much I still don't know about EVE.  I can't tell you much about mining, other than what I read in a 40 page guide. And no matter what you think, becoming a top level miner is an art, not just a activity.

Astro investigation, market trading, moving illegal goods, how to survive a blob fight, heck, how to survive a good gate camp are all skills I keep working on every day.  Toss in 0.0 politics and strategies, management of a corporation and the list is pretty much endless on what you can do.
