Do you think they should scrap AoC and focus on The Secret World?
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I voted no.
If I recall correctly, FC has two seperate teams working on these games, and while maybe another team added to The Secret World would be taken into consideration, I somehow doubt that that would be the case. Besides, I still highly doubt that they will push back again. From what I heard Pre-Order Codes for the In-Game items have already been sent out partially, plus, the offer for a 3-Day headstart has been put up on numerous sites. Currently, everything points towards them going live on the currently set date.
But, I've been wrong on this before, so I'm of course, not entirely sure.

Nah,
Best thing would be to still release AoC. Delays will happen and are annoying, but most often are best for the game. Canceling AoC would be a huge kick in the nads for the people who want to play it and cause a lot of distrust for the company, more so than releasing a sub par game. At least releasing a sub par game will allow them the chance and time to build on it. Scraping it would just make people think "Well, they canned this game, why should I expect to see any other game they claim to be working on?"
Kinda how when I see an MMO with M$ attached to it. I don't even bother looking into it because I know thier track record for ending production on an MMO.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
So far, only the same management is spearheading both projects. It sounds like the same thing Tubine tried to do with DDO and LOTRO.

I think Funcom should get Conan out and get back to working on Dreamfall chapters and the Longest Journey 3 :P but that's just me. Would love to see that story end, it's just so good.

I'll try to find that link where I read that two teams are working seperately on those projects. I don#t have it bookmarked, so it might take a moment.

Heh, that was easy. According to this, the development Team working on TSW is the same that worked on Dreamfall, or at least recruited from that one after they had originally been pulled off from TSW in the first place.

oh good question... if it where any other mmo (except from earth rise cause that is a hardcore scifi mmorpg, which is something i really want) i wouldn't, but since "the secret world" is supose to be a big time cthulhu game i dont know. I will differently check out the secret world out anyway.. shit you just cant beat cthulhu lore.
I have voted 'no' - just because one game comes out it does not mean that you have stop trying/buying other games. If AoC gets delayed again I will play other games in the mean time, if it does come out on time, guess what, I will be trying other games while I play it. Keep an open mind, always!
Kinda a retarded question really. Scrap a game, all that money put into it and development time. Nah not going to happed.
This game IS coming out May 20th N.America May 23rd Europe 2008.
Funcom WILL go bankrupt if they all of a sudden decide to scrape this game and start another will take years.
They have 2 'casual' mmo's in production and also 'The Secret World'.
The Secret World has its own floor level at the top of the Funcom building with lots of space and people working on it.
If they delay it again.. it just means I put my pre-order for two collectors editions back up.
I had dropped the pre-orders because I am going to be making a very large "real life" purchase in May.
So no I won't want them to put two teams on a game that already has a team. Even the AO graphical update is its own team. A delay would actually work well for me .. but I would hope its not delayed again.
I doubt it will be delayed. But no, they have to make AOC work, and work well, or no one will have faith they can deliver any of the future projects. Call it a loss of faith.

Thanks, Avery. Games have been dumped farther along in production, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least. You say it IS coming out, I'm saying it isn't. Remember, I've been calling for October 2008 since the launch was suppose to be November 2007. We'll see. Remember in the past, you've been known to say I'm completely wrong for calling a soon to be announced AoC launch date move. Since I've known you in the Acolytes, we've seen no less than four launch dates come and go. What will a few more moves hurt?

Ok a few more or maybe one more delay would hurt the game yes. But in all honesty, the game is coming out, proposing AoC to be scrapped for full on resource support for The Secret World is silly though.
We have Collectors Edition details
We have pre-order details
We have companies sending out pre order codes by email to people who pre-ordered
We have advertising in popular PC gaming magazine over the past 2 months, never seen before.
We have a new front end website up and revamp of the community one.
We have ramped up showing of the games at all sorts of shows and conventions.
We also know that there will be an expansion for AoC and that a core of developers is alreading getting to work on it. We also know the 360 version will ship with this expansion content in one package.
We also know that it is going to be some ways off for the 360 version. Like many months away.
We also know that there is lots of stress testing going on.
We also know that the PvP beta server went up 3 months before May's stated launch.
We now know siege battlekeeps are in beta right now and soon to be tested on.
All of this since the new year. I would say the evidence supports that this game is coming out in May more so than at any other time. There is more info coming out and we have received more info about the game.
To propose to scrap the game is silly, its backwards thinking and goes against everything.
Then there are the costs involved. Funcom needs to recoup money.
i voted yes cos aoc is comming out the exact someday mt exams start
if they push it back again they would do so to scrap it? that doesn't make sense
but thats not even important
they've had enough time and they need to show what they've made
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
i dont see them scraping AoC and keeping their credibility but if they NEED to delay it to make it better then so be it.
They have build this game from an engine that took over 10 years to develop. They are in beta testing with very largwe ammounts of beta testers, from looking at videos and features it is clear this game was not an overnight job. The shear scale of an mmo takes much much more dev time than an average game.
So the question is :Should it be scraped? No Why? Because they are beta testing now, most of the work is done it is just getting some bugs fixed. It looks like an awsome and revolutionary mmo that would be great to play. it has been hyped beyond belife.
Will it be scraped? Doubt it again games this far a long in dev have been scraped but it is a tremendous loss to do so. Lets say the game has been in developement for 5 years and has had a team of 10 people making 30/hour working 40 hour weeks the whole time.(These are pretty modest numbers i would guess) The payroll alone would be 2,880,000. Add in space costs(building, electric, etc), workstations, development software etc etc the cost really starts to add up. To throw all of the money into the mists requires a lot more than a delay.
There is no question this game will be released this is FunCom after all. They have absolutely no problem releasing a game that is full of bugs and at best delivered on 10% of the hype, yes that would be Anarchy Online.
Dont forget when AO was released the SERVER would handle at the very least 40,000 players, towns would be able to be taken by each faction to only name the 2 most blaring failures on their part.
So again I say this game will be published, on time or late does not matter, but remember FC has a history of releasing big steaming piles of poop.
just out of curiosity, what have you seen so far in this game and what do you think of what you have seen?
I voted no. Thats a lot of time and effort put in to just focus on another project.

Hate to answer a question with a question but really what have we seen to lead anyone to believe they can put out a clean MMO at launch?Personally I wont touch AoC until a good month after release. I want to wait and see what the word is on the street, and to make sure it actually delivers unlike AO. If it does I would have no problem checking it out, but if it does'nt I save a month and few bucks.

sounds like a plan.
unfortunately I'm impatient and will probably be one of the people who will tell you smart people that have the virtue of patience what the game is like.
and in answer to your answer i wasn't necessarily talking about the timing of the release as much as i was the quality of the game, which seems to be getting better with every trailer.
basically, i just wanted to know what other people thought about the game so far.
If Funcom does push AoC back again... There is an even better chance that I will have a graphics card that can take full advantage of what ever the game has to offer. If they waited until fall both NVidia and AMD will likely have second generation DX10 parts on the market. I doubt a delay is going to happen though - they would have announced it by now. Waiting till the last minute to do this sort of thing would be a PR disaster.
And FWIW, except for a press release, I've heard nothing about Secret World. It couldn't possibly be a realistic replacement for AoC.
Are you serious? Do you understand basic marketing? Funcom has invested way too much money and resources developing AoC. If they were to scrap AoC they would have done it before Alpha testing. It wouldn't make any sense dropping AoC when they already have retailers pre-ordering the game. It would be financial suicide.
