I don't like EVE but I am not going to argue with you. After playing POTBS for 2.5 months I cannot take seriously anyone who states "POTBS has more subscribers than eve". Just me though, have fun.
Again people insist on comparing to 2 completly different games ,eve (chess) and potbs (checkers with someone watching over them like some retard soo they dont eat the damn things).
First of all eve is a true sandbox while potbs is a "box" with the word sand scribbled in front. Why isnt Potbs a sandbox ? ... well linear proggress, check ... lvl based chars ... check ... A sandbox means complete freedom over your actions and consequenses, for exemple in EvE online I can make a new char, get in my noobship and head to 0.0 to pod a infamous pirate who was stupid enough to autopilot in a freaking pod threw 0.0.
In Potbs,I first need to lvl up soo I can use better ships and better abilities,or I am as good as a floating wooden toothpick who wants to be an ice berg.
POTBS isnt on rails like eve, you actually have to think in combat, plan, utilize (real) tactics, i
man, dont log in or post for a while and they snag your stars quick....NINJAS!!!
Oh dear god thank you for that laugh , I needed that - because surely you cannot be serious about having to "think" in PotBS - you can get alongside a level 50 ship once you are 30ish and board and auto win every single time , or just hit spacebar , spacebar , repair when its up and rinse and repeat
I mean if you cannot see how PotBS has the easiest combat and most non existent AI yet in a mmorpg I dont know what to say -
PotBS requiring thinking and tactics - now thats a good one
I tried out PotBS. I though it was a fun game, lighter weight than EVE. It would make a great casual play PvP game.
The sea battles, while slower, were great tactical battles.
The land battle system... was horrible in my opinion. . Heavy instancing detracted from the expierience. Some light instancing ala WoW is ok (special areas, dungeons, etc), but instancing every single battle, building, etc really doesn't add much fun and immersion.
Variety in the sea battles was decent. It would have been more fun to have a larger world map and do more extended long range engagements.
Economy was a good attempt - remove grind. But it only removed certain grind - hauling stuff is still a pain.
EVE's single world, no instancing (or breakable instances ala missions) is something I find sorely lacking in many other MMOs. Yeah, it has its performance problems, but its immersion factor is unbeatable.
That said, minus the land battles, PotBS is a good game. Fast to level, decent small group PvP, more casual pace.
I have NEVER heard this before and i highly doubt most potbs players are aware of this. Is it not the point of an MMO to have a connection with you character, to build fame and make friends and enjoy it. If its going to reset wtf is the point.
Either your wrong or POTBS is the WORST idea ever ever ever ever ever ever ever...............
+1...he's posted this a couple times now, and either he's jumping out in front to defend a HORRIBLE decision coming down the pike from FLS...or he's just wrong. I really hope for this game's sake it's the second one.
When blackeard reset, I suffered no penalty. Was still the same level, with still the same amount of doubloons. What does happen is the ports revert to the original owners. (Port of Spain was taken by british, it returns to the Spanish.)
And they say fans of Eve aren't elitist snobs.......
They never seem to be able to say WHY their game rocks without saying why every other game is so terrible, and quite frankly, the fans of the other games have some sor t of mental condition.
We get it, you like Eve. Me, after you had higherups at the company fixing the game, and it being a semi-regular occurence, I stopped playing, even though I was not personally effected by it.
And I found Eve "hardcore" to the point of absolute boredom, if you viewed auto-attack and afk mining "hardcore". Some people like this, and that game is for them. I personally find it boring, just as I "hate" raiding, and one thing I like about both Eve and Pirates, they are not raid games. Even "Bey's retreat" is raid style, but the rewards aren't that impressive, to where its only for people who want to do it, not to get the phat lewt.

EVE game mechanism works, POTBS mechanism doesn't work. In this case that makes it superior, simple functionality.
an eve fanboi laying down laudatory comments for eve verse another game post, i simply do not know what to say, well yes i do. here's to hoping for intelligent discourse! best part of POTBS, the devs dont play it and dont influence it and arent cheating in it. that sounds good, except that all devs play their games. otherwise, how do they get a feel for it and know which way to tweak things. the influence/cheating could be true, but the devs play it. POTBS isnt on rails like eve, you actually have to think in combat, plan, utilize (real) tactics, in eve, combat is on the rails, you shoot through anything (i'm sorry? what was that about ship setup again?), i guess the simple combat in eve when compared to POTBS would scare the eve purists, your on rails eve, your on rails and you eve folks cant stand to be told that. (i was one after all) i'll leave this alone, it's been addressed already and well, what you put just sounds funny. someone mentioned the level achievment in one week of POTBS, well i guess if you play 24/7 yes you can, hell in eve you dont have to play to gain skills, who is simpler eveboi? PL meh~!! PL meh~!! oh wait, no PL'ing in eve. no max leveling in eve in even a year's time. people have already maxed level in POTBS? well then, i guess potbs would be the simpler one, to a reasonable person. POTBS economy simpler than eve? this is humorous, if eves economy was half again what POTBS is eve would improve quite a bit. i guess not having active scammers like those in eve does drop POTBS down a notch for those that like scamming. and as with POTBS the economy will be more detailed or dumbed down as needed just like eves economy has been over the years. um... and the funny thing, POTBS has more subscribers than eve, who knew!!! (chuckle) (chuckle)? (very non hetero) sure its it own niche game but happily larger than eve and growing more. but you play one game you have played them all. i mean really, entertainment is what your going for to stimulate your mind, when the game gets old for you or it loses that sparkle, simply move on. so, there's lots of stuff for pirates to do in a game called PIRATES of the burning seas, right? i mean, the game has PIRATES in it's name, so it's probably centered around PIRATES, right? i mean, if i play a game with PIRATES in the name, odds are it's because i want to be... british.
i keed i keed. i'd want to be an ebil piwat. a very bad part of POTBS, its owned by sony, this is a big loss in my book. smed thanks you kindly for supporting his utopian dream of a plethora of average MMOs on the station pass (even moreso if you only pay for the one game).
man, dont log in or post for a while and they snag your stars quick....NINJAS!!! perhaps it is based on the quality of posts?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
