Well Vanguard is SOE and I'll never play another SOE game just out of principle of that company many times lying and ripping their paying customers off. NEVER again will they get a penny from me.
AOC is looking like it will be quite the overhype immature fest.
I am hooked on Lord of the Rings Online. Not for pvp. The pvp is pointless, but this game runs mint. Looks beautiful. Has a great detailed world that sucked me in.
Before you decide anything try the free trial from LOTRO. I never thought I would like it, then I tried it. LOTRO is now my PVE MMO. (EVE being my PVP MMO)
LOTRO is a true MMORPG there is plenty of roleplaying going on. The Tolken world is just stunning looking. The game engine is VERY solid and well working.

So to sum up your post:
1. I hate SOE!
2. AoC looks like it will be an overly-hyped immature fest, even though I have no evidence
3. LOTRO online!
I could contradict everything you've just said about LOTRO, but it's just not worth it, nor it is on topic with this thread.
Besides, I just don't do arguments with Ron Paul supporters.
The current Vanguard isn't bad at all, for me as a slow player, it would be easier to catch up to high-end content. And while AoC might be good, I still think playing Vanguard now isn't a bad choice when you can switch to AoC after it's released.
Vanguards does have nice classes. It is one of the few very strong points of the game. However the classes in WoW and LOTRO are just as strong, but each of those games have more ways to customize how your character plays. All three games have classes that are very different from each other and offer differing experiences. By that I mean they aren't just cheap imitations of a base warrior/healer/dps with a couple of different spells like most other games.
I have to disagree that the classes in VG make the combat any better than the other 2 mentioned games. All three end up being a button mash of a few select "best" spells and a couple of utility abilities for various situations. It is pretty standard as far as MMO combat goes.
Conan looks to be the first game in a long time to try something new that would be worthwhile enough to mention.
AoC. Because Vanguard has been dubbed damaged goods. The game should of been released when GU 3 or 4 was released but yet was a year ago. Supporting Vanguard is will only let the game tycoons know they can release a game in any state and people will still pay. which is BULL. come on vanbois i know your going to say something now.
I just wonder why you come to the VG section of the forums at all, it is obivious that you dont ever intend playing the game????????
We have heard all you bad comments about VG, move on already!
Well I've been kinda waiting on Vanguard to get a bit more polished before really coming back in strength and I've also been interested in Age of Conan. For me though a big factor will be the combat system. I really think the combat system in vanguard is very good but there is a ton of hype around AoC. I finally found something that lets me try combat that will be like AoC. Someone who is playing AoC said that AoC has a combat system very similar to Avencast. So if like me you are thinking about AoC you can check out the demo of Avencast to see what the combat system is going to be like. Frankly I was unimpressed and all the graphics and features in the world won't make up for a poor combat system. Be interested to see what others think.
I love Vanguard. But I always try new MMOs and I'll definitely try AoC. If I like it, then I'll end up playing both I spose So far, I've been underwhelmed by what I've seen of AoC, but the only way to give it a fair shake is to actually try it.
I'm using an 8800gtx and I'm not having any issue so I'm guessing whatever stickied thread you are refering too is probably old... For me my 8800gtx is working great.
I checked it before I posted & the stickied thread is still active with the latest post on 2008/03/21. I have the NVidia 8800GTS 640MB Graphics card over Windows XP & with a Creative X-Fi Sound card. Some people seem to be able to play OK with this combination, but many cannot. That was why I said it was a hardware lottery because no-one at SOE seems to really know what the issue is & just keep requesting that people post their Vgclient.log files.
Other SOE games have issues with the 8800 cards (e.g. EQ2) but none as bad as VG. I wish I had bought a different one now, but it was too expensive to throw away. I am glad that you can play the game, but from the experiences that I read on the tech support forums, nothing fundamentally seems to have changed & I am reluctant to waste a buddy key & spend time on reinstallation if I am just going to see the same stuttering mess.
Have fun.
My 8800 GTX has been wonderful with the game. All the card's memory leak issues have been fixed. The only thing left is that Hardware Occulsion 'On' and the 8800 can do some funky things from time to time. But overall, the performance is abosolutely incredible.
From what i hear.. that AoC is a major bug fest. Just as bad or worse then VG at launch. I don't know if that's even true or not. So don't hold that against me.
I've been pretty much been attracted to Warhammer right now. Look's bad ass and fun as heck. But today i started thinking about RvR unbalance issues. For example say if my favorite race is Orc's their main major enemy are the Dwarfs. Now say theres 1000 Dwarfs, and only 300 people decided to be Orc's.
Now with just using pure logical sense... more dwarfs means their going to run all over the Orc players in RvR. Still i like to know what their going to do about that.
I know i should stop being so lazy right now and look up more on it. Anyway's VG is great game... i see myself playing it, for nice long time to come.

Can we feed the hype meter for two games that are still being worked on more? AoC might not be as many of you suspect. Think GW with it's zones, toss in reactionary combat and that's AoC. War I think will also be a far cry from all the hype being tossed about these and other forums. The good thing about VG is we all know how it is and how it has improved over the last few months. It is a good solid game now.
You don't have to raise the hype bar much when comparing AOC to Vanguard. All AOC has to be is polished at release with solid game play that works and it automatically wins hands down. Visually and artistically AOC destroys VG altogether. All Funcom has to do is make sure the game works and the game play mechanics are fun.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Greenskins are a fan favorite for Warhammer fans period. They have always been and always will be more popular then dwarfs because they have tons of character and quirks.

Aye, but remember, Funcom invented the horrible launch
They are also great at failed patching, introducing more bugs than fixes and server instability (best way to win a tower battle is to crash a zone, that happens to be linked to the chat server which is somehow linked to shop item population tables...)
As for visual and artistic preference, AoC looks like an updated version of the AO engine, where the characters have painted on faces. The enviroments look OK, but thats about it.

No offense, but did the whole point i was trying to make in my post, fly tottally over your head? I don't care if their more popular then Dwarfs. Now let's say 1000 Orc's vs 300 Dwarfs, instead of the other way around.
Yikes over in the AoC forum I'm reading a thread that the world is made up of linear small instances with invisible walls everywhere.... Not sounding good at all.
I'm starting to think my Pre-order for AoC was Pre-mature :P Can't wait till the NDA is lifted and we get real info although if the past is any example info leaking out now is no doubt based in reality...
Well, if the choice was between those two, the choice is easy. One of them is out, the other is not (unless you manage to enter the closed beta that is).
I kind of wonder how you reached the conclusion of the linear small instances with invisible walls. Not true by a long shot. AoC zones require loading through them but they are neither small nor linear. The only linear spot you'll find is the first 10 minutes into the game and the only small zone is the tutorial zone, for the obvious reason of course. No invisible walls by design either, they are either there because developers don't want beta testers to go somewhere or because they present a bug in the world. Don't expect to see them upon release (or do if they don't fix them I guess).
a few months back i would be questioning how sane you are. Vanguard is becoming more polished but you cant bring back the players when most have the buggy beta crap they were given at launch firmly in their minds. Vanguard is doomed to a crappy NGE style existance, no matter how polished it gets it cant recover from such a crap launch.
anywho its up to you. i say wait until a day or two before AoC is released (or in my case) 3 or 4 days afterwards to get decent info on it. i waited 5 days after LOTRO released and it was a good decision. i skipped the hordes of people starting new characters (there were many but nowhere near as much that my friend dealt with when he loaded the game up at launch). you also get many many many posts on this site and reviews popping up and even footage.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
For Christ sake, people now use "Vanguard" as another word for failure and let-down. No one who plays Vanguard has any right to doubt AoC's features or potential. Just give up and move on.
Not that I play vanguard much, but its actually doing alright, as anyone who actually plays it knows, as opposed to people who either played the messy launch or beta.. or someone just repeating what people say because hey.. thats the cool thing to do (swg anyone?).
You want failure and let-down? Look up DnL. Vanguard was smooth and perfect at launch compared to DnL. In fact vanguard's launch wasn't that bad compared to typical mmo launches.. they mostly all suck and some irrationally angry person who perceives it as some kind of direct attack against him for some reason always starts crying that the end is near and the sky is falling... and then people who have no rights to an opinion about it just go ahead and repeat the crap until it becomes popular (because the people who bitch and whine are the most frequent posters in forums)

On the instance issues there is a big thread on it over on the AoC forums. There are also some beta leaks out there that talk about it in some detail. However like everything that leaks out during NDA/Beta it is to be taken with a grain of salt. That said it is frequently based on some reality. So since I preordered I'm watching this info carefully to decide if I should cancel my preorder.
As to vanguard yeah it was in a poor state at launch but it isn't half bad now and it just keeps getting better. If they in fact do remove hitching in gu5 and improve the graphics some more that will likely be in the may time frame and it will be a solid competitor to AoC and if AoC is having problems VG might be the place to go....

AOC offers indepth GVG warfare..or FFA. VG has ffa pvp as afterthought.
You're right, Vanguard was designed to be a PvE game, they should never have stepped into the realms of PvP.
