So ive played this game like 2 or 3 times and i have loved it every time but i always find the same thing. it takes way too long to lvl and making money can be a pain. has either of these things gotten better or what?

i like game as well, but, im just put off to much on the amount of Xp loss when u die
Sure, they've gotten better. Probably not enough for you I would assume. They have events to get exp without having to be in parties and certain missions as well. Making gil hasn't really ever been too much of an issue for me. I've always saved up and gotten what I needed. If you're thinking you can just kill some mobs and get a bunch of gil though, that's not happening. Things have gotten better I can say. Don't know if it would be enough though.
You don't lose all that much when you die. Especially when you start exping in parties. Plus, when you can get raised, it'll take like a fight or two to get it back. I never saw a big issue with it and I've died and lost exp at 75.

so these soloable quests...do they make it so im not waiting 3 hours for a group and can solo lvl fast? and would it be worth playing again if i couldnt play more then an hour or so a day?
No, you cannot solo lvl fast, but u can solo! Most classes impossible but the ones that can are still very slow, and extremely risky. You gotta know what ur doing to survive and win...

No. That's what Campaign and Besieged are for. Mostly Campaign. But, it still doesn't replace how fast you get exp from a party. Oh yeah, instead of waiting for a party. You can make your own. Sometimes, ya just have to do that. Usually pays off since you choose who you party with and it doesn't go crappy. If you're just looking for straight up solo stuff and no partying. Might as well not bother is all. Unless you really don't care how fast you level. Which it seems like you do.

Depends on the level. Most jobs can solo fine with skill. But, most are slow except a few. When you get up there in levels is when soloing isn't so bad.

maybe my old server was just really low pop cuz i always had trouble finding people for parties. and ya i care about lvling i dont want to be lvl 15 for a week before i finally lvl u kno lol. i expect that at higher lvls of course lol
On Kujata, I have friends that went through 12-25 without much a problem. I don't see how you could stay at 15 for a week. At least you should be able to get like 3 levels in one night on a weekend. Just letting you know there is more to the game than leveling. At all levels.

well ya lvl 15 for a week was a bit much lol but ya all the crafting and stuff, i remember all that, lots of grinding to lvl up ur skills and some items took a lot of farming to get but i think im just kinda bitchin atm so nvm :P im just lookin for something to play in my off time and i remember loving my taru taru summoner..

Good for you. Honestly, they just put on the official website that the '08 collection comes out on the 15th. I'd suggest you wait till then. So you won't have to dish out the extra 30 or 20 bucks for WotG.

Nope. Not really. Just offering the suggestion if you care about saving some money is all. If you don't care, by all means, go for it.

ok good lol. was afraid for a bit. i cant wait to get started though. the waiting is killing me lol
unfortunately, it's very rare to make a party in an hour.. and when they are made they'll want you to stay for a good long while and give at least 30 minutes notice if you're planning on leaving, this game from my experience is based on party etiquette, if you can't dedicate maybe 3-4 hours of time a day to playing you'll find yourself going nowhere fast..
you can be a beast master.. beast masters get a lot of seals solo... so it's well worth levelling to 75, you'll be very rich and very formidable solo(beastman seals and kindred seals will make you a lot of money)
but if you're looking for something you can play for an hour a day play something like WoW :
unfortunately in an hour it's impossible to do anything...
Also summoners can solo decent challenge pretty well with fenrir and a pluto's staff+Yinyang robe
and I've heard Dragoons can solo with some skill and a redmage subjob

I've had to go through it maybe 5 times or so through the time I've been playing this game. Just make sure to change the config settings for FFXI before you log in. It's gonna look ugly if you don't. That and hopefully you have a usb controller of some type. It should help you play better unless you want to get used to the keyboard/compact thing.

ya ill be sure to check the settings and unfortantely ill be using my keyboard but i used it before and didnt have too much trouble lol.
Not all of that is true. You can definitely make a party in under an hour. I've done that more than once the last few times I've made one that I can remember (I haven't been exping a lot). You can get away with exping in a party or an hour or two. But yeah, you do need to give notice before you leave. The stuff you're talking about with SMN is kind of over the top. You don't need all of that to solo with SMN, just Carbuncle really. DRG's can solo with any mage sub for the most part. WHM is the best earlier on. RDM might be a better choice later on in the levels. Either way, all jobs can solo to a point, some better than others.
