Ranger.. Frankly though given how poorly the PRAYER TO THE GODS contest was handled....and many veterans of over two years still not invited to beta..I have cooled to AOC.My full attention is on PERFECT WORLD.I'll wait to see if AOC enen launches on time ...and what my open beta experience is..if that ever happens.
Looks like a single me (Dark Templar) is going to be leading a whole bunch of Conquerers and Bear Shamans into battle lol. So far I'm still the only one who has his heart fully set on playing the DT Cheers to being different!
That's just because I read some info about it from some beta players saying the class needs still some tweaking. And having many options like shield, heavy armor and lifetapping abilities might seem good stuff. But eventually raiding and good groups are made of classes that have distinct and clear purposes. Like a damage dealer, healer and a tank. Being a class with a shield but not as many options as a guardian might have with shields is one point less. Being a heavy plated warrior wanting armor pieces like the main tank (guardians) might give you less chance on getting some, another point less. Lifetapping abilities nice and dandy but how well will they do versus bosses? I bet they'll resist quite some, another point less.
So yes it can be a very good class for some people but can also be a left out class for others. Then again for each class is something to be said about. Just wanted my view on why I swapped from Dark Templar to some other class (cause I picked it as my first option as well).
You have good points, as far as end game content requiring classes who serve one true purpose. From my own experiences in other games, this is very true. However, I've never truely been one to get all excited over end game content. Yeah, no doubt that it's nice and very beneficial, but I'm more of an end game PvP'er. Besides, raid groups are going to have to accept Dark Templars anyway (as in, making a purpose for their being) to give those who love the class a chance to participate in obtaining the good stuff at the end. Basically, the Dark Templar's downfall (as you stated) doesn't bother me too much due to my taste of gameplay. I guess the class just fits me to the "T" Survivability and PvP ownage ftw!
So yea, lets keep those opinions coming! The question was what class do YOU want to be in Age of Conan, and why? I love reading what others have to say.
My first character will be Herald of Xotli. I like the idea of switching between caster and melee abilities. Plus, just turning into a demon is freakin sweet! My next choices will be Tempest of Set and Cimmerian Ranger.

Ok im not disagreeing with you. Everything you say in there is pretty much true. But that doesnt change the fact that the way you think is extremely linear and "within the box." And that saddens me. How can devs create games that break away from the tank, healer, dps mold it people refuse to do the same.
1 of the things the devs said about this game that really stuck with me is that almost every class is something of a hybrid. I also think its extremely sad to choose your class based on how much loot you can get, how much competition you will have for raid loot, or who wont get loot because your ina raid. The fact is, you should play whatever is fun to you and hope funcom takes care of making each class useful.

Demonologist, I've always liked pet classes and I've always liked shapeshifter classes. Best of both world's for me, send in my demon, cast some dark nasty something on the baddie then go demon and whomp on them. Gets me all misty eyed just thinking about it.

Its strange because Dark Templar was also an appealing class to me. I feel that it would be a good solo class as well as a great pvp class.

Probably will be an assassin, love being an opportunist and having no responsibilty, looking forward to ganking people.
O_o o_O
Assassin. I'll rarely be soloing in this game - just wana give the tank enough time to get aggro and then whamadewam, kniveees in teh back
I will probably have one character from each archetype:
1. Soldier - Male Cimmerian Guardian
2. Rogue - Male Aqualonian Ranger
3. Healer - Female Stygian Tempest of Set
4. Mage - Female Stygian Demonologist
As to which will be my main, your guess is as good as mine.

If I get this game my main will probably be an Aquilonain Conquerer.
If I get this game and play long enough to want a 2nd character probably an Aquilonian Priest of Mitra or a Stygian Tempest of Set.
I'm going to be honest, I'll start out with the Barbarian class. Although, I will try each class and go with wich one I enjoy the most as my main.
Demonologist
Tempest of Set
Conqurer

Necromancer
I'm not sure yet but...
Ranger/Barbarian/Demonologist/Conqueror
is what i want to try.

Been a healer through all the games I've played.
Priest of Mitra for me!

I'd have to go with Aquilonian Conqueror at least to begin with.... and see how Ranger / Assassin is handled and plays after...
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Nice, nice. Keep em coming!
What class do you want to be and why?
Necromancer because I always wanted to be a Lich and later either Assassin or Herald of Xotli.
Herald of Xotli
|Mortal Online|Gnostaria|
Priest of Mitra or Bear Shaman
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
Aquilonian Guardian. With all these magic-users running around, it's my duty to bring a bit of balance back to Conan's low-magic universe
If I dont change my mind, I will be an Assassin. Love to play a class where I can RP as an unknown wanderer with a shrouded past. ^^
