Meh ... this really belongs in the AoC section really. How can Darkfall have a "PvP weekend" when it's development cycle isn't even in open/closed beta yet?
I'm slowly but surely getting a little annoyed at people posting AoC stuff in the Darkfall Forums.

This is not a war between games, no matter how much certain people want it to be apparently (I am not choosing sides here). Let Darkfall be Darkfall. The sensible people will make up their own mind, and the others...well, you won't convince them with a failed launch actually happened so...no use for that either.
All these posts do, is create a tangible animosity between the fans which is something I fail to understand completely. DF and AoC are both games and judging from things right now, they will in no way compete directly with each other, both for launch-date reasons and because of the actual style of gaming.
There is just no reason for this.

Why are devs now making all betas open only to those who subscribe to stupid sites like fileplanet or whatever?

Mabye they think that the gamers from Gamespot are more experienced and would rather have their feedback instead of a bunch of random people. Also I do believe that Gamespot is holding the forums.

Wake up. Darkfall has already had two open betas, including a clan beta back in 2005 that had official registration and everything!! Oh wait, those betas were unceremoniously canceled. Er, yes, I agree, Darkfall would greatly benefit by showing SOMETHING.
OP's point is, it is time for the DFO devs to either put up or shut up. They are writing checks that not only can they not cash, neither can any development house big or small. Their list of features would make any Executive Producer crawl back into their shell. Mean while, all these other games keep getting released and people point to the DFO feature list and want to know why AoC or WAR or STO or any other new game can't match 1/2 the features and take five years to deliver and we all end up disappointed.
In the mean time, someone is Greece just sits backs and laughs because they are collecting Greek and EU subsidies to keep developing a game. Oh well, at least someone keeps getting a paycheck for this Vaporware.

j/k, Those BULLSHIT rumors is started by fanbois from other games. We're stand behind the devs and will support them until the game got released or canceled. And if the game is good or bad, guess we'll see someday.

The thing is, it would be so easy to do something like a BETA weekend. Hell, it doesn't have to be 15,000 players...it could be just 5,000. I would even venture to say that combat could be turned off and they could just simply call it "a tour of Darkfall weekend" Anything would be better than nothing at this point. I think something like this could boost DFs standing in the mmorpg community again. It would show the world they have a REAL playable game...not just simple screen shots
The longer we see nothing concrete from DF the more people will come to believe there is no REAL game yet. Personally, I don't think they have a game yet. That isn't to say that they won't someday in the next 10 or so years.
So how hard could it be...Prove the rumors wrong! If you have a REAL game, let the world see your proud achievement. The very least you could do is invite a few hundred people from the Media to play. This way they could come back and tell the world the game is REAL ! Come on Darkfall, it's ok to be proud of your achievements...at least open your "game" to the press.
ok let me say this again like i did in another post darkfall is BULLSHIT till they start beta end of story. as far as AOC till i try i won't know but there beta so bullshit is little lower on them have a wonderful day at mmorpgs

That sounds abit strange? Its bullshit untill beta?? The game is the same now and after beta. And i agree with Kyleran, Aventurine owe us nothing.
Regardless of the response to the OP, who here wouldn't rush immeadiately to sign up for a PvP stress test if it was announced for Darkfall?

i will explain. if it goes into beta at least they have not been jerking us around but if fails then it fails but at least if they came out with closed beta . yeah and i basiclly view every rumor as bullshit till it's backed up so with the beta it means they have done something and put something out there to be worked on and tested. if u want me to explain more i will but thats me
It's marketing, pure and simple. If you have to subscribe to gamespot or fileplanet in order to have access to the beta, then you will most likely at least check out their web sites.
Then when game releases, they will probably the one of, if not the only digital download site.

Exactly! File planet makes millions of dollars a year annually because people get tired of waiting in queue and want their down load NOW! It is nothing but a ploy for more money. Then again, hosting servers are not free to maintain, so I understand why fileplanet does this. The shady part is that the developers will point their fingers over to fileplanet and tell the fans to "go play for free" next weekend knowing full well that a good percentage of those folks will be paying to play.
