Notice that you find that a lot in the "Asian" MMOs.  I watched an add for Perfect World that was very DEFINITELY slanted toward women.  I'm wondering if there aren't more females in the Asian world playing and if the marriages have been added to appeal to the women.  While playing LoTRO with my guild, several of us "adopted" each other.  I was mother to several different people.  We had a real laugh over my Elf Female being the mother to one of the Dwarves.  I don't see any difference from that to getting "married" in character.  Its about as lasting in my opinion.

53, female, a gamer and proud of it.

Look i don't even know where to start really. I hope all games in the future lack an actual marriage system for the sake of the players sanity. If people want to roleplay out an ingame wedding in a game that doesn't support it then you'll see me there swords swinging, guns blazing, etc. I'm going to be there and I'm going to tear that wedding up!
Wow, I honestly cannot even imagine being this offended over how anyone plays an MMO they pay money to play. I find showing up to disrupt a wedding that has nothing to do with you far more disturbing than the wedding itself.

I have played MMO's for over 10 years, and have probably seen just about every situation there is to see. In-game marriage is a total non-issue compared to other behaviour I have witnessed

How about a Wedding with a happy ending, have you seen that?

Marriage is awful in real life so why would anyone want to do it on a game?!!  Omg LOL! I stole a bride from a pixel wedding once though ... was pretty funny. I talked her out of it by convincing her what losers guys are lmao.

Why is this creepy? If you put human beings together, they will interact with each other. Why should that interaction not include marriage and love and all that other crap! Let it be. This is th 21st century. This is the intarwebs. Let people fornicate as best they know how be in in real life or virtual.

I, myself, have been using online sources since the early 90s with BBSes to meet those of the opposite sex. Yeah, I'm very shy in real life. Not one to go to bars or clubs and "hook up" - but online environments provide me with the perfect medium to meet and talk to the opposite sex. I have met women from BBSes, Myspace, WoW, Second Life, Yahoo Instant Messenger. I have met most of them and carried on relationships with them in real life as well.

It's all good. These kinds of activities make an MMO game more healthy and brings more variety of people into the game. Come on, we don't want our MMOs full of guys who just want to uber up 24/7. Companies that provide more social aspects to their games are the ones who get the female players. The more female players, the better chance I have at finding myself a lifelong MMO/gamer addicted female life partner!!! :)

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

If a cool mob spawn beside the wedding place, don't assume that I won't ruin the event just for the hope of getting the loot. :P

In RL I guess I would marry the right gal, I guess...just didn't meet her yet. :P

Something like that happened in SWG once on my server many years ago. A Jedi was getting married to an entertainer and a Bounty Hunter showed up in the middle of it and killed the groom ruining the wedding. I still remember the post, I think it caused the bride to quit the game.

It's really sad to see how many people don't comprehend the concept of roleplaying.  I mean, it isn't like anyone on the game is a barbarian or a wizard or anything, what the hell do you care if one person is roleplaying a female character or not?  Here's a little hint for you... IT'S A FUCKING GAME!  GET OVER YOURSELF!

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

Yeah, marriage is definitely featured more prominently in-game in Asian MMOs. Different culture, different priorities.

Also, the Asian MMOs that feature marriage type systems are now including things like: grouping with your spouse will give both of you huge buffs.

    I have nothing against it.

I think that anyone that has a serious problem with online/in game marriages...probably has no appreciation for roleplay and/or believes the only meaningful connection one can make online...is through porn.

I love rp, one of the reason i played WoW was because of the lore and i intended to rp. It's just when you bring online relationships into it...it kinda makes me feel uneasy.

Never really had any interest nor issues with such things, save for the hetero-only slant that some games offer for it.

I must say I have often not gotten the point. I am not against it nor am I for it. It kind of depends on the situation.

I'm a long-time (off and on) player of Nexus: The Kingdom of The Winds and I must say that recently I was married to my real life wife and I find it interesting. In NexusTK, most often friends are married (or become "Blood Brothers/Sisters" as an alternative) but not for the most common reasons but rather for ease in hunting. There is an object called a "Blood" or a "Love" (Blood for Blood Siblings, Love for spouses) that teleports one to the other when used. Many people use it for ease in collecting commodities such as Wool.

I guess one would have to play the game to understand though. I just wanted to put my two cents in.

I do find it a neat option, just not one that I find particularly useful except in the context I mentioned above.

kind of silly IMO. I was married IRL, why the Hell would I want to repeat that experience in a game?

I think i can recall a guild called "wedding crashers" in WoW pre-tbc..WoW did host a lot of marriages also so...makes sense right.

imo marriage is all about property combining the assets of 2 people for the betterment of a family or what not in most MMOs i have played most players have all they need and in most cases offspring are never put in to the game mechanics therefore marriage is an outmoded concept for MMOs

its not creepy but if the role players want it that much i say give it to them

Yes we have seen a Bounty Hunter screwing up a wedding in SWG.

As for the true sex of the player behind the avatar, well if you truly believe in your fireballs, you can believe in the sex as depicted by the sexy avatar.

That said, I do not want to be involved in cyber marriage, and much less cyber relations.  I have never been to cyber marriage as well.

Hehe, this is the "English" perception of a marriage, it is a business model!

A marriage can be that, but it is a LOT more than that.  Every day of your life will be changed, forever, and you don't know what you just start.

It is, as the french often describe it...an "adventure".  A journey.  Just learning to know the other person in itself is a LOT (and definitely the most interesting part), then you have to face both problems, raise kids possibly, the diseases may strike with various level of severity...and there are compromises on compromises affected by other compromises.

I am not a wise person, but for me, it seems very important that even after the wedding, both loves never take each other for granted, this is the main reason why I would request always to have 2 bedrooms...and hopefully use the 2nd almost never, but eh, at the start especially and when it isn't going well, this other bedroom would serve it purpose.  Most marriages which end poorly, 1 took the other for granted for any reason.  You don't catch a bird, you have to deserve it presence, everyday, marriage or not.  Now, it doesn't has to be hard to "deserve" the other, as the other should also want to "deserve" you...but if needed, there is at all moment, a 2nd bedroom.  :)

The wedding is not a final agreement, it is the first compromise!  In a long list of wonderfull compromises.  :)

That is also why I can't take wedding seriously in a MMO.  If I get married 1 day, then all my MMOs character would be married to my sweety half, no matter if she plays or not...however if she plays 2 characters... :P  *grin evilly*  And what about the fact I always play female characters (which would tend to look like her from that point, I am that silly)?  *bonk*  gah, that would be getting quite complex, especially that I play many characters most of the time...  :P
