And whatever you do , do not preorder.

Wait for open beta or trial

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

Indeed. That should have a positive effect on cutting down the whining associated with people misunderstanding what the game has to offer and then complain about it.

Hmmm, who am I kidding ... lol ...

Great post. Straight forward and to the point. I too have been posting more than usual on AoC, moreso encouraging discussion on class choice and such.

The hype this game is generating is amazing, and it's making me count down the days until launch. It's time like these where the MMORPG community is about as antsy as a baby being handed a huge stick of cotton candy---Christmas-like hype. I've read what kind of awards its gotten and how many magazine covers it's on, and I couldn't be anymore impressed with the power of a single product. Great job for taking a big step forward Funcom.

I've never in my life seen so much hype for the release of a game, and I hope minimal people are disappointed with it. A major element that helps Funcom out is time. Nothing "huge" has been out for a while now, and the MMORPG community is both hungry and thirsty for something. The timing for release could not be better, granted that the next upcoming title isn't out til Q2 I believe.

I'm definitely going to try and get a collector edition preorder in if they still even have any by the 2nd or 3rd day after notice. See you all in Hyboria

Very nicely written, however like you said its an "opinion" and unfortunately I dont think it will cut down on any nay sayers.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Your post rubbed me as more apologetic (?) than anything else.

Other points of yours I do agree with.

People should try it for themselves. Perhaps once the game is out they should not visit any forums of any kind and simply enjoy the ride and let them find out about stuff for themselves.

  • ZKaaZKaa Member Posts: 16

    to OP:

    1. Anyone must have his own opinion, agree. I think most of us are looking at AoC like a possible better game that we actually play, something what can give us more that our current mmo. I personally think AoC will be a failure, but thats just me, let hope I am wrong and I will  be nicely surprised in open beta if there will be any.

    2. I dont want to save AoC or promote it. Graphics is nice, I want to see what else offer except the barbarians hungry to decapitate someone. I will like to see the nice part of the game also, crafting, raiding, and game feeling overall.

    3. I see you compare AoC with WoW... You forget something, before WoW, was Warcraft1,2,3 Diablo1-2, Starcrat ALL OF THEM BIG HITS, no surprise why Blizzard rules the scene. Now, what FUNCOM did exactly before, and I miss it from the hits list? You think you gonna see in AoC the polished and fine art what WoW gives even with the old engine who runs? Honestly if Blizzard will update the engine only for latest video cards, most of you will forget about rest of mmorpgs.

  • mindmeldmindmeld Member UncommonPosts: 229

I think a lot of ao veterans has the ao launch in the back of there heads when thinking about this game i know i do.

I hope for funcom sake that the launch will be smooth and myself will not be jumping the wagon until  at least 3month after the launch usually most minor launch bugs will prob be handled.

    OP: great post.

Yeah, maybe people are remembering AO's shaky launch, but I am remembering what a great game it turned out to be, and how well FC ran, and continues to run the game.

AO turned out to be a quality product, and I'm thinking some of that quality is bound to rub off on AoC.

So it wouldn't matter that the majority of people who are playing right now with bucketloads of alts (at 70 e.g.) have exhausted all the old world content?.

If there's something better out there that can provide refreshing content then I really don't see how most of them would ever consider going back.

AoC will provide that, regardless of the negatives it may have at launch. Even if it's for a few weeks/months/blahblah until something else refreshing comes out and the cycle repeats itself.

Unfortunately they will never do that, thus rendering their game obsolete

I've recently bought the HoMM complete collection. I thoroughly enjoyed the series at the time they got released. However it's really hard to go back to those outdated visuals. Game hardware is improving, and with that it allows developers to improve the things they can do with their game engine. Blizzard decided to stick to the past and will probably let WoW die while creating a shiny new engine for Starcraft Online (that's the best IP they have for an MMO).

Besides, you have to be disappointed with the amount of content Blizzard is producing over time. Especially if you compare it to the massive revenue they are generating and with what other companies with a fraction of the subscription base is producing.

Yes - dont preorder.  This one is a MUST as open beta or trial.

You may have right, but they already said, they are pushing the graphics a bit in WoLK. Is not only about the game engine, is about the art part in their games, everything is polished, they care about every detail. Art > engine.

Also, my friend, QUANTITY don't means QUALITY. All the content what they did is great, is clear that they focus on quality much more that quantity.

I have no idea how much they get, honestly, keeping 10 millions players online must cost something....

It is a nice post OP althoguh I suspect it will mean little to most of the people.

There is so much hype generated that its sheer amount is bound to do some sort of the damage if the product doesn't turn out ZOMFG amazing! It will not, for no product can be that good and tastes are subjective.

The game is a Mature game, meaning it is meant for players 18+ . Just about everyone I know my age (im 19) can afford to blow 50 bucks on a game, in fact we do it all the time.

Actually.. preorder and play the 3 days free if you really want to beta it, and if you aren't happy with the product then cancel your preorder.  That way if you like it you will have a headstart, and a pre order bonus item for all your characters.

  • obake87obake87 Member Posts: 37

    I already pre-order. ...

i see alot of people always scared to pre-order a game. why is that?!?! vanguard and a few other's was really bad and bugged. but lets face it, most games from MMORPG did just fine few bugs but hey all games have bugs. i feel AOC is going to have few bugs . what i been reading on websites .ect....that they do not want to open beta .becuase they want to fix everything inside the game , does not see a point to open beta becuase really. lets face it. how many of you, when played on a open beta really wrote a report about bugs inside the game?... so i see why they would not open beta for everyone ..if you preorder you get 3 guest pass if you buy from gamestop. Thats telling you something with the free guest pass

Open beta=alot of people who just want to play and wont help the funcom team out

Close beta= people who really take the time and know what they are doing to fix the bugs

Aoc= Going to be next great game.. read what E3 said and playboy..haha "this is one game i could not get away from"

Well i m sorry to break to you but some people have to pay rent, bills etc etc etc (me included) those 50 bucks are enough to ensure i can go to the movies/dinner or drinks a couple of nights a week. In order to find those 50 bucks i have to cut back on something else i enjoy, so it better be worth it if u get what i mean

Nobody is stopping you, then again your profile states you are 19 years old American.

Some people don't like to blow $50 on any piece of overhyped shinies that rolls out of the door, others don't want to. And some cannot even afford to do that.

Btw, I fully expect AoC to be filled to the brim with late teens of minimal legal age and with the similar attitudes to yours. Should be interesting for observation but I will bet it will prove yet again that M rating doesn't mnake M community.

Which, I think, nobody really contested. At least, no one in their right mind. I think there will be more or less three type of people in this community. 1) The people who love the books and lore and care about the world, 2) the people who are interested in the gameplay and buy out of curiosity and play because they like it, and 3) the people who are in because (and only because) it says boobs and blood on the cover.

It's anyone's guess how the people will be distributed. Myself, I hope and think that there will be a good community around. There are some very encouraging posts on the AoC Boards (others very discouraging, but that doesn't make me give up hope), so I guess the community will be what......? Exactly, more or less the same as any other MMO's. Diverse, in parts likeable, in parts not.

Fair enough, for me if 1 & 2 are more numerous then 3 I will be satisfied. If 3 proves dominant I will emulate the Italian army and reatreat with all haste.

We will see, it also depends how good or bad the product will be in the end.

Well obviously if you don't have the 50 bucks to spend a game you may not like ppl already know if they can or cannot do that...we don't hafta constantly be told by others what to do with our money. I have spent the money on the pre-order. If the game sucks...well it does, n I will move on without complaining...as it was my choice. If you have the money for the pre-order n decide to go for it that is ok...if you obviously can't afford it...then don't.

One week trials are never enouph to get the hang of a game anyway...For me personally it takes a month or two b4 I decide if I don't like the game or not. You need to reach that mid lvl n see what the game has to offer. Not something you can really do in a few days of either testing or free trial.

lol at ppl working that cant afford this only people that has a minor excuse is the youngsters still living at home with no work thats a big hurdle to overcome.

i mean 50 bucks is not a lot of money in one go and the game prob wont go for more than 20$ a month and if ppl still like the game after 30days included time you will pay 20$ with no problem.
