For someone of his position, it is not a very professional and wow... he should be fired.
You do know that "Senators" are just player volunteers picked to bring player gripes/concerns/suggestions to the devs right?
You are correct though..they should dump them all because they're pretty useless.
You do realize that the "Senator" program is just a resurrection of the old Correspondent program. Those who wish to serve in positions such as this have to be Yes Men for SOE. As we saw with several former Correspondents, if and when these folks go against the company, they get the boot.

MMOs currently playing: - About to play: Lord of the Rings Online Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Well, they really have a bunch of "winners" on their side, huh? They berate, they belittle and they seem to be out of touch with the reality of the game's position. The game is buggy, it's glitchy, the combat is terrible, the buffs are out of hand, the movement and animations are unrealistic and awkward, classes and expertise are no substitute for the skill system and on top of that the game is basically on life support.
SOE is bad enough, but then you have the people who defend them and brush aside their ineptity in morality. You have the people who tell others to "get over it", really though, what does that achieve except making them look like arses. If any insult needs to be hurled it should be at the deserving party, not at the people enjoyed something that was ripped from them. Think before you speak, that is an important lesson that apparently there are some that haven't been taught correctly.
I always feel such tension when I check the official boards, seems just as volatile as the game itself. I'm not surprised to see such a post. I sometimes sense a mixture of denial and Stockholm Syndrome whenever I look over there.
ah the senators.........smed's fluffers. how i pity such a group of soulless ghouls. shambling about trying to retain some semblance of their past glory......
arguing with a corporate fanboi is like teaching special education. even if you teach him something...at the end of the day he's still retarded.
The NGE came and went. We're in a new version of the game in all reality. Right or not, no one got "screwed" unless they kept paying for a game they didn't enjoy and then they only one's "screwing" them was themselves.
I love that line. Fact of the matter though is that we did pay, more people paid for a few years before the NGE for a game we all very much enjoyed.....then they changed it, changed it to something a lot less people pay for and now they said we screw ourselves?
Not to mention that $OE NGE'd the game and refused to refund the remaining months people had remaining on their subscriptions. Those people were certainly "screwed".
If $OE had screwed me out of $100+ per acct, and that happened to several guildmates of mine, I'd be holding a bigger grudge than I am now. Those other people had BOTH their game taken away from them and no refund on their remaining time (which was a HUGE PR mistake, among many, that $OE has made).
I was one of those in that camp. I paid for one year at a time every year since the game launched. And I did the same in July of 2005. So when November came and the NGE was spewed onto my lap, I found myself stuck with 8 months remaining on for two accounts.
SOE refused to refund my two accounts and the remaining 8 months. I also didnt qualify for the expansion refund (which had strict requirements) for both accounts. SOE stole $250 from me.
And lets not forget they also took our subscription money for several months and used it to build the NGE engine. While they lied to our faces on the forums about fixes and revamps coming for our professions, they used our money for an entirely new game. The NGE was in the works BEFORE Smedley's statement that the CU was here to say.....LIER. Thats another 6 months or $90 stolen from me.
I'll certainly come back to SWG right after they send me a check for $340, fire Smedley, and apologize for lying and stealing my money.
This looks like a lesson in life, if nothing else. You chose to pay for a 1 year sub to an
EVER CHANGING ENVIROMENT.
All MMORPG's clearly state, whether it be in the TOS, EULA or on the loading splash screen, that the game is liable to change. When you people finally come to the realisation that no matter how big a fan of the genre or licence, Star Wars in this case, you do not have ANY ownership of it. You have no say in the future direction chosen by the owners of that game. You pay to make use of the SERVICE they provide.
The only case of any "theft" I can see is the possible fraudulant sale of the expansion packs that became almost redundant within weeks of release, hence the refunds. If you failed to meet the criteria for eligibility, I do not know what these were, then that's a matter for you and SOE.
They did not "steal $90" from you or anyone else for that matter by allegedly using that money to develop changes and content you dislike, any more than Macdonalds would be stealing my money if they used it to change the recipie of their hamburgers.
But...but...what if you paid upfront for a years worth of burgers?!?!?!?oneone... Well, Macdonalds would have done exactly what MMORPGS do, warn you that the recipie can change at any point!
I played SWG at release, I enjoyed it for a while. The powers that be felt that their game needed changing, they did it. The only ones to have any cause for grief are they, and they alone.
The EULA, as a non-negotiated contract between parties, only goes up to what would be a reasonable person's expectations about changes. It is impossible to defend that the NGE was within a reasonable person's standard.
My thoughts are similar to Fishers. From another thread:
"You understand that we may update or otherwise enhance the Game and/or the Software at any time..."
This has been quoted to justify the NGE, among other things.
I ask you if any reasonable person would interpret the following actions of SOE as examples of updating or enhancing the game:
deletion of over 20 professions,
rendering people completely unable to move or chat,
making heal abilities heal enemies,
advertising and selling items and features in an expansion, and then announcing their deletion the day after payment was received--fraud allegation,
rendering people unable to interact with virtual pets,
deletion of in some cases two years worth of quest progress, along with deletion of the quest content from the game,
rendering items in the previous paid for expansion, Rage of the Wookies, relatively useless by deleting the professions they were made for."
Now about the hamburger example. If a restaurant sold tickets for a roast beef dinner, you bought a ticket, and then after you paid for it you were given a spinach salad and told to eat it or leave, people would get all their money back and the restaurant could be charged with fraud. People that paid for roast beef would be right to be irate seeing the money they spent being used to feed someone else salad. Your hambuger example misses this point entirely.
No sir, you are completely wrong with your example, totally totally wrong.
SOE didnt not "offer a roast beef dinner and serve a salad"
The person I was replying to had bought tickets for roast beef, knowing and being told it could change from beef in the futre, and got roast beef dinner until one day he got salad. The only thing they did wrong, was offer sauce to go with the beef tyhe week before they changed to salad, and so offered a full refund to those who met the criteria.
Also, where does all this "reasonable persons idea of reasonable change" crap come from? When you buy the box, you buy the right to use that software, when you subscribe to play you pay for the service and running and even access to that software.. They can change it, shut it down or sell it to someone else if they desire.
The game is still set in the Star Wars universe
It's still an MMORPG
Those who bought an original licence key back in 2003 can still play the game in its current form ( with a subscription ).
Given the above points, none of you whiners have a leg to stand on regarding any rights, consumer rights or legal action.
They sold you the original SWG, they provided the running of that software for a long while, then they changed it. Your $10 sub each month grants you no rights to anything other than access to THEIR service.
The game that SWG:NGE functions on is derived of a different codebase than the SWG:Pre-CU was developed with. The game mechanics changed in a way that a reasonable argument can be made that it is essentially a different and new game.
That would market and sale of ToOW a case of fraud, bait-and-switch, and possibly a violation of Interstate Commerce (within the domestic USA).
What makes the reasonable argument even more compelling is that it has been admitted by the guilty parties that the development of the NGE was secretive and not made available to the customerbase until the ToOW was marketed and sold.
Calling us "whiners" doesn't make your opinion any more credible than ours.
It's obviously not worth the time and $$$ it would take to sue for damages via class action unless it were to set precedent.
Originally posted by nikoliath Given the above points, none of you whiners have a leg to stand on regarding any rights, consumer rights or legal action.
Among the rights we "whiners" have, and as most Vets agree with, is the RIGHT that we do not have to pay soe for this travesty of a game. There are other games out there to play, almost all better than swg/nge. Most that post here are of the mindset to just let the game fade into obscurity (and it seems to be headed that way), and have moved on to other games. While there are some die-hard Vets that would like to see the game shut down tomorrow, that is their opinion, and it is welcome here in this particular forum. Most likely they will "whine" until the game shuts down for good.
You like the game? Fine, play it. But as for the rest of us, we have the RIGHT to complain of poor game management and change of the core game, the RIGHT to complain of poor customer services, the RIGHT to tell others to avoid this game, and all the RIGHT of freedom of speech that living in our respective countries allows.
No matter how long it takes, be prepared to see posts such as above until soe and L/A does something to change the wrongs done to their customers, and if you can't stand the posts, don't read in the Veteran Refuge.

if you want to win our respect then you will start pushing for a rollback to pre-cu on all of the servers. as for our misinformation we are not $OE we don't use misinformation. we tell the truth about how bad swg is and how $OE is still ripping people off. don't believe me go to wildcats blog. www.soesucks.net he has a list of all of $OE's lies over the years and it is a good read about how $OE could careless about us players and just wishes to have a ton of fanbois and fanbots running around.

Your just angry, you feel entitled and have no right to. People lie & mislead everyday we cannot help ourselves were humans. Deal with it.
I became a senator at the players request, not my own. I'm not looking to earn anyone's respect SOE does not force anyone to pay, so their not rippin anyone off. .
By the way, if I did want a roll back it'd be to publish 24 not pre-pub 8....pre-cu = /puke. Seen my share of comp wearing jedi's, black bars of death, 10 minute waits and solo-holo grinds were dah suck!
The atmosphere of the official forums is somewhat disturbing, from newcoming players all the way up to some of the devs and there's a little bit of arrogance among the devs, just read some of Blixtev's replies in the past couple weeks on TC threads with "learn to play your profession" when responding to how crappy forsake fear is.
Now the senators are getting worse and stooping down to a moron's level, even MasterCosmo gets out of hand occasionally when he's posting in the smuggler and Jedi forums. Ironically I find ArkonPhoenix the most sane and down to earth one considering how babyish the Jedi community gets.
I've never liked WoW's or BF1942's forums, but SWG's forums are becoming the icing of the cake. The devs in the past (remember Garva) has gotten pretty hostile with the community and even some devs coming from EQ2 has done the same thing. Somebody in SOE clearly doesn't know how to do the job when interacting with the community.
Well Hello, Since this is my 1st post here on MMORPGI should introduce.
You my friend, have stepped into a pit of vipers. This is a haven for the bitter, angry and vindictive former SWG players who will never forgive, never forget, and never get over the loss of their pre-cu game. There is no consoling these folks, no explaining your reasoning for remaining with the game, and you're best bet is to turn around and never look back. You are the enemy to many of the folks here, and you can't win them over.

well if this is your opinion and stays "as your opinion" ok. But if you try to ignore or to deny the wish of the vast majority of the SWG community about wanting the PRE CU version then you not the right man for the senator job. Enjoy your position in game while in the community spread out over various places in the internet you will don't have any with comments such you just stated about PRE CU.

Until there is another SW MMO I'm not leaving SWG

Welcome to the Veteran's Refuge, Kraken. Hopefully you'll stick around and not just be a drive-by poster.
well if this is your opinion and stays "as your opinion" ok. But if you try to ignore or to deny the wish of the vast majority of the SWG community about wanting the PRE CU version then you not the right man for the senator job. Enjoy your position in game while in the community spread out over various places in the internet you will don't have any with comments such you just stated about PRE CU.
btw welcome to the veteran boards.
