I don't consider that a benefit at all.  What's the point in having a rare item if anybody can buy it at a low price? That makes it seem less special.

How is it not easy to stop gold selling in your games?  There has to be a simple way to stop it

  • paulscottpaulscott Member Posts: 5,613

There is an extremely simple way to almost completely get rid of gold farmers with no policing on the developers side.  However the people of the forum would never play an item shop game to start with, much less an item shop game where the items are tradable to the players(IE the players that don't pay pay by selling to those that pay for the items and provide a lot of competition to real gold farmers likely too much), and having MASSIVE cash drains of auctioning(house leases, blue prints).

Not that it matters because the 'hardcore' crowd isn't valuable anymore (this part why we might see this), or that we'll see such a game since charging monthly would likely end up being about as profitable against other player base types and a lot more stable income/profit wise(this part why we likely won't).

    please note = 'sarcasm'

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Hold on there TrollStar (Nice name BTW :)

I am willing to allow that a few account hacks or keylogs are for plain malice. I submit to you that over 95% are for the reason of Online selling.

I dont believe anyone would have to prove this, if anything one would need to prove there was another motive for this problem.

I agree that not all gold sellers are hackers, but the converse is likely more true than not.

Goldselling is not a real issue. And think about the poor chinese who buys his bread and milk by selling gold.
Not an issue? You tell that to the inflated marked. A stack of bronze bars used to cost 50-70 silver. Now, it sells for 3-5 gold. Prices rose up on average 5-7 times because its easy to get gold now - just buy it. Simple economics.

@Miner-2049er - i think casual people who dont play much hate goldsellers the most. Why? Because they cant really compete with them. Hardcore people you mentioned can compete because farmers in reality are hardcore players (they farm nonstop). By selling gold to other players they artifically boost their competitiveness. The rest of people, whose who dont play much and dont buy gold, soon find themselves outclassed by both the hardcore players and those who buy gold.

While I can understand that any hardcore player may have a fair advantage over me due to the amount of time invested, I certainly do not like the idea that someone may have advantage just because he can buy it with real cash. After all, is the whole point of the game to be rewarded for your efforts or for your wallet?

Not that I like gold farmers (mainly because of the ethnic consideration of cheating) but your arguments are full of holes.

First, if gold farmers make their gold off AH, it will LOWER price for the items they farm and auction off.

Second, hardcore gamers should hate the gold farmers MORE than casuals. Why? Hardcore players don't need gold farmers and gold farmers are competing with them to farm stuff. The causals, OTOH, can buy gold and become MORE competitive compared to the hardcore players. The casuals are more likely to buy gold than hardcore players.

    So clueless its scarey.

First off, by farmers flooding the market the prices plumet on those particular items, thus normal players can't make a profit like they used to on those items, thus destroying the low end market economy.

Second, when pathetic scum buy their gold from these morons, it causes inflation on the price of the high end gear because more people have more gold to spend, thus again destroying the high end market economy.

etc I could go on forever but read the other multiple threads on this subject and you will see how they screw up all game economies they get their hands on, and ruin the enjoyment of honest players.

LOL .. you just made two contradicting statements. There is no reason to assume gold farmers don't SELL on the high end market. There is no reason to believe gold customers do not buy from the low end market (twink anyone).

You are just making things up.

given the time, and resources that gold farmers have, along with the screwed/decomplexiness/limiting economy factors in an MMO... gold farmers can easily mold the ingame economy however they want to with all the power of the early federal reserve(before people would try to prepare and predict what would happen due to their tampering), the power of banks, and blatently printing anything from money to resources.

an organized gold farmer group could choose to say 'all your market are belong to us' if they choose to and could all aggree to work together.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Go figure.  It doesn't bother me that much though, I haven't experienced spam in my chat log or anything like that in games before.  If someone wants to spend money on that than go for it.  Personally, I need to save my extra change for gas lol.

Enjoy playing such a game with the other five people who agree with you.  There's lots of singleplayer games that can certainly meet your gold soulbinding needs.  After all, if you want gold to be soulbound you might as well not even play a multiplayer game.
