Was trying to figure out the balance of the groups. I guess in the smaller instances and so on most soldiers can tank, but when it comes to high end stuff I take it you will need a guardian tank and a priest of mithra in them. Or in the high end raiding.
What you guys belive?
Comments
Classes are all hybrids, so no.
Any soldier will do.
Any healer will do.
What you base this fact on? Have you tested the high end instances?
curious to know
all preists really are hybrids dude, only cuz he has "Priest" in his name doesnt make him the best healer, he is still a hybrid of healing/cc, every healer has their strenghts and weaknesses. gotta think out of WoW terms cuz these guys re invented everything
same with the soldiers, guardian can take more physical dmg, but DT can take more spell dmg and he AOE tanks instead of physical hits, Conq does a bit of both
Never played WoW so I am not atleast thinking in any WoW terms D00000D. And its themself who has said that the priest of mithra is the main healer in the game so that comes from there DOOOOOD.
Same with guardian they say themself are the best tank class in the game as for an example only they get plate, and I think that will make a big diff in high end raiding DOOOOOD.
But if you have raided in AoC and can put down facts about your claims here go for it, the OP tho seems to be going for a discussion around this, as nobody can state facts as you do here.
You can't put down said facts without breaking the game's closed beta NDA. Sorry.

I know what im talking about DOOOOODevery healer is the same as the other, i would actually have bear shaman over a PoM because of the dmg out put and better regen.
crap a if you have a ToS with maxed dmg and healing buff, hes the best healer period. like i said every class has there strong points and low points.
and i would rather have a DT that can auto buffs while getting hit, when hes tanking than a guardian DOOOOOOOOD so stfu
wish i could O.o

Why are you attacking him? He's politely telling you that it's not like WoW.
You do realize that you're responding as if you were the OP, on a different account right? The OP's avatar is an orc. I believe from WoW. So either you have a bad case of the skitz or.. I have no idea.
Anyways. It is what it is.
...............dude.
lol qft

Lol, yeah....maybe he never played WoW, but with that disposition, probably should have
I put that you don't need both, as in they are not absolutely required. But in sentiment, in a way, it is "recommended"... which is one of the major flaws of a class based game. Names are stereotyped by the players and developers. Guardians and pom-pom's appear to be, at level 20, the best for PvE in the sense of "jobs", in other words, the best damage takers and the best healers... the differences at the level seemed pretty noticeable to me. It does appears FC is at least attempting to break this mold but after playing the weekend beta I'm not so sure that will be in their grasp, at least not before some major revisions on their classes (I think everyone who played the PvP weekend can agree).
Now that I think about it I'm almost afraid I actually put my opinion on this thread... it appears as if you'll get attacked for having a different opinion than others. I also just want to say that NOBODY here can base this on fact. This is all speculation, the game has not been released. So I do not see how everyone is using that as a base for assaulting people, unless you want to claim yourself as a developer working at FC. If I recall the max level on the beta(s) are level 13... which really isn't enough to judge a class with, nor is the short level 20 experience we got.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
general beta was released quite a while ago that is the full game, the beta releasing now is a diff one. there are players that have played to the full extent of the game and know what they are talking about when they say what is implemented now

I was not aware that there was a beta beforehand that allowed for a higher maximum level than 13, thank you for telling me that. But it still doesn't make a difference if a game's beta is open, closed, limited to a large extent, practically finished, or filled with crap, you can't judge a book by it's cover (well maybe if it's full of crap). I would like to wish that the beta was good enough for it to be judged properly, but I'm probably going to wait until official reviews about classes other than from FC or off-hand sites to get my info... which I guess was what I was trying to say in the first place... would have been a hell of a lot easier if I just put this in to begin with

Um...there were games that had various types of hybrids and didn't rely on the holy trinity long before AoC came along dude!
Im finding it amazing how many people seem to think this game and that game (as in none in particular) are the "inventors" of concepts that have been around for some time.
To think that any game with tiered progression raiding will not have certain classes with certain builds that are preferential for certain duties is foolish, even with hybrids you will see guilds that build their raids with x of this class, y of that class, etc... It always comes down to efficiency for serious raiders.
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
Awesome posts dudes!
~sorry, I felt left out
Hopefully not a demand to have either of them, but I am sure it helps to have a pure healer and pure tank in the group. And all games I played there is no option for anything else when it comes to the high end raiding.
The tank that is born to tank!
The problem with your line of thought is that you don't know how the healers work in AoC. The healing does not revolve around looking bars. The majority of the healing comes from HoTs and keeping them up. Once you throw your HoT at your team you either a. sit doing nothing or b. start doing damage. The difference between the PoM and the rest of the priests is that the PoM does more damage the more his heals, heal. While the rest cast more powerful heals the more damage they do. The rest of the time is divided between damage and utility.
My guess is that you will find healers disappointing if you try to approach them as "box fillers".
The same thing holds true for the soldier archetypes.
The one thing that you need to keep in mind is that the Guardian and the POM are just the classes that play similarly to what people would expect from a tank and a healer coming from other games. And that's about it really.
As for the min-maxers. I'm sure they will appear at some point. They always do. They are like the roaches that suck all the fun, drain the innovation and kill all the surprises. They will try to dictate the way the game should be played and their word will be the rule of which all sheep will be measured. You can't do much about them besides realizing that their way is not the only way. Ignoring them works too.
The problem is that min-maxers and devs talk the same language called math. And min-maxers are able to force devs to do what they want, because they are able to exploit content if the devs ignore them. If 10 min-maxers are taking down a raidmob where 24 semi-causal fun raiders struggle, then the devs cant ignore them.
This would be the very fist game where min-maxers are not ruling combat development.
I guess i could write it down 10.000 times and nobody would undertsand it. But MMO s without decay and with a raid item progression have no hope for sustaining endgame fun. They have no real future. Quote me on that in summer 2009 if you like.

either im not geting ur point or ur saying that game with item progresion.. is hopeless game.. i ask you why you play mmo ? go play cs/tf2/cod4 whateva fps you want
yet to see any game who doesnt envolve around character growth.. and i hope i never will.
there are plenty of good games like witcher and such.. just pure rpg.. its good game.. its fun. but in the end.. after few days how does game look to me... " some random dude without memory but with memory at same time.. runing around for 0 reasons.. banging each chick he meats.. and i think that for next few days till game will end i will be doing same .. over over and over again and in the end there is nothing to go for "
are you one of those forumfall believers and fanboys.. i got nothing about the game.. but i got feeling all of you gona be disapointed and bored way sooner than 1-2 year in item based mmo which is 99% of mmo games now..
I been jumping back and forth on what class to play, But going back to Guardian now after seeing it in the pvp weekend i liked it a lot. I usually play healer or tank. And in this case the guardian seems to be the class I can make into the best tank for my needs. I like to spec them for no dmg and all tanking tho, its not for everyone.
Why not. I guess you will always find a group. You get your stances for offensive and defensive combat. I think i saw that other classes may have impact on your stances. Sounds like its very doable to be a solid tank and still have some DPS to do solo quests if needed. I also think that your offensive stance will give you some nice burst damage to kill an enemy in solo PvP. If not you probably will have to wait till he died from starving ;P
Any1 have the time enough to explain what "min-maxers" mean/do ?

NDA ftl, or i would post things from my source

ahh when i say the re invented everything i mean the combat system and the way to heal. im pretty sure no other game has the same type of strategy that there is to healing in this game.i know other games have hybrids, eq 2 has fury"s , ffxi red mages etc... etc.... but most of the ppl that post here or almost everywhere else, started playing WoW, i didnt but a big population of the players of our genre did.

re read that again, to yourself then go look some stuff up about the classes and re state that paragraph, you are very naive. i was stating that PoM are equal healers to other healers, hes no just the best because his name starts with preist, same as guardian, he can take alot of physical dmg but crap for spell. Dark templar tanks are going to be better tanks imo. because of their auras, and on chance buffs when they get hit. O.o sorry to put your panties in a bunch
