With emphasis on pvp minigames, that's it, no thanks

Unless you're not keeping up, it's obvious all the talk as of late on these forums and the official ones is of how PvP minigames are now going to play a crucial role, and they aren't just going to be something people do for nothing.

This raises alarm bells with world pvp enthusiasts like myself who were hoping AOC would bypass the monotonous predictable boredom of instanced PvP, and keep all focus on keep a POPULATED world pvp experience 24/7.

With ANY EMPHASIS AT ALL on instanced pvp, you take players from world pvp, and that's not a good idea, since you need as many players as you can pvp'ing in the world at all times in order for it to be fun and worthwhile.

What is your stance on this? Are you still as enthusiastic?

Me personally, I canceled my pre-order. I know why I quit WoW, and it's the same reason I'm going to avoid this game. Not only does it have the whole Vanguard 2.0 reputation floating around, but now it has this utter crap.

My stance on this is simple, I couldn't give a toss. I have pre-ordered and look forward to trying it. My ego is not so huge that the thought of not being able to do as I please does not bother me.

If I decide I dont like the game then I will cancel my sub, rather than come about a system that ppl know very little about.

    enjoy.

IMO, the PvP mini-game should be used for one purpose only: as something fun for bored people to do while they wait for a group to form.

The PvP mini-game looked fun, but honestly, if I wanted instanced zerg combat on a small map I would play a FPS. If Funcom rewards people (read: badass guilds of hardcore players) for performance in the mini-game, people will be encouraged to "grind" in the PvP mini-game.

Anyone who took the time to pre-order and then cancels because of unobserved reports probably didn't want to play anyways.

Where is the "I'd rather play it /try it for myself and see rather than rely on the rantings on others" choice?

    Free will, damn its great.

I agree with most of the posters that have replied before me ( minus some of the bashing ), and I think you should wait until everyone gets a chance to see what this information will really mean in terms of gameplay.  Getting all worked up over some words that can easily be misinterpreted is not worth it.  In regards to pre-ordering, I haven't cancelled mine, and still plan on giving this game a shot, but if you are so concerned, then just check back once the game goes live and the NDA gets lifted to see what it really means in the final product.

It's still very unclear how much of a role the minigames will play in deciding who gets first crack at the bk sieges.

Sure, we're only weeks from launch and it's very easy to assume that things won't be changed by then, however.....regarding this issue they don't have to be.  No one is going to be level 80 come launch day, I honestly don't think bk sieges will even be attempted during the first month of the game.  There is still plenty of time for this issue to possibly change.

agreed. Even though the seige requirements is rather disappointing, but we still dont know how exactly funcom is going to use minigames to determine seige priority. Im sure there are workarounds you can do, like leaving it to the guild leader and other mates to do it if u dont like. If you are a small guild, you shouldnt be seigeing at all. And this game is not even launch yet.

I dont think you are serious abt this game anyway. You cancelled? you sure you wont be sneaking in for a 10days play using the headstart key? Dont tell me you dont have it.

Wait, where's the option of "I didn't preorder a CE but PvP minigames are a stupid timesink with no purpose except to kill time while waiting for a group"?

    More options, man it's great.

he prolly didn't cancel his pre order..all talk.which is to bad really..now we'll have this whiner ingame.

try the damn game before you start ranting bs.

    don't get the fuss tbh...ya'll go to see movies...spend money on restaurants..sometimes it's not that good,sometimes it's great.it's $50 bucks...less if you wait for a buddy with a buddykey.

try the game and then stay or leave.but for the most part..stfu..don't care bout your unfounded opinion.

I think people are jumping the gun about the pvp, none of us  really know what all the game has to offer with the exception of cb testers and they arent talking. The pvp minigames does not sound like a bad idea  more options is always great and really from what I saw it did not lead me to believe that the minigames were the biggest part of pvp. I wish all the doomsayers would take a chill pill and wait for people to actually see the game not just snippits here and there.

Never before have I seen so many people in denial, aside from the people who think Darkfall will be released soon. AoC is a clone of WoW, have fun grinding in arenas for PvP points for gear. Have fun grinding forever in instanced 24 man raids in hopes that you might get an item you want. Two sets of gear, 1 for PvP and 1 for PvE. People who think AoC is a PvP mmo.... you have another thing coming. The same goes for Warhammer!

Are you just jaded and upset with MMO's in general? Sounds like it.

So you think that the intro/tutotial is 12.5 gigs ?

Anyways, have my betakey ready for the 1st of may, and preordered the CE, thats like 50 free gaming days, so should give me enough time to make up my mind.

    Regards.

It seems to me like there's a lot of blind hope for AOC from people that desperately want a new MMO and are afraid to be critical.

I concur with the vanguard 2.0 sentiment, and I am not happy about the emphasis on PvP minigames.

Why can't we have an MMO these days where it's just world pvp like SWG used to be (before they tried making that game a wow clone)? Why must all of these developers flock to the easy-route instanced pvp?

It's boring. Add me to the canceled list. And I'm not just canceling on this pvp minigame thing, but I'm canceling also because I've played MMO's long enough and seen the vanguard debacle, and if you can't smell this coming a mile away that it's the same exact thing, you're delusional and/or just hoping you have a new game to play that doesn't suck.

Good luck playing a rehash. This is what devs do. They say "Oh we're making this new innovative game with all of this breaking-from-the-mold stuff", then it gets closer to launch and they realize they were full of it and just copy other games that were successful, AKA WoW.

Have fun, this game will be dead before the first month is over, and by dead I mean official forums with constantly deleted/locked topics every minute for the last week of the first month since nobody will be logging in anymore.

  • hellshockhellshock Member UncommonPosts: 53

pre ordering because you are hoping it will be great i understand.

cancelling before the game is out and you are not doing it because you are poor..i do not get.

you'll never get the chance to make up your own mind...there is no way you cancelled because of something you experienced..you go by what others say/think.

what an exciting life you must lead.

Guess you didn't take part in the boring gamespot pvp weekend.

It only took me a few minutes to realize that if that type of pvp gameplay was going to be significant whatsoever, then I would not want any part.

To each his own. Some want an exciting random rush everytime they step onto the pvp battlefield (world pvp), and some want a treadmill that they know what's going to happen every time, where the environment never changes.

The PvP weekend WAS The minigames. A CTF game, a TDM game, one or tow other game types. The bottom line is instanced pvp is always fixed and predictable. Some people don't enjoy that.

Yes, I'm still waiting for a "don't let the door hit you on the way out" fanboi flame. Don't worry, I never went all the way through the door. I haven't and won't give them my money.

Heh, I'm more concerned with the fact that I'll have to raid to manage to compete in the PvP mini-games...in order to do anything with sieges.  The whole set up sounds awful to me...I'd rather have the arenas honestly.  At least then I don't need to raid...and the match-ups are kind of different each time.

With all of the news I keep hearing lately...I've decided that this is nothing new.  If anything it sounds like they are taking a few steps BACKWARD from the evolution that Blizzard brought to the genre.  Trust me, I really don't enjoy WoW at all....but I can at least note the improvements it made to a lot of things.
