Here i will insert a poll within u can vote for the game u believe will be the next GREAT MMO.
2008 is a year of many new MMO releases and it would be awesome see what the mmorpg.com community thinks will be the next great mmo.
Your answer can be based on whatever u think is most important and will lead a game to success.

get rid of mythos and darkfall.....darkfall wont be released in the next year or two...and mythos is a niche f2p
Seeing as you just say MMO I'd vote for Starcraft 2, being a massive multiplayer online game. With a close second being Guild Wars 2.
Well i just wanted to give people some more options. I didnt had a release date for darkfall and mythos so i put them just to be sure. Now u told me i will correct this. Thanx
Lich king thingy, 10mio jerks cant buy another MMO. As long as blizzard has the most advertising, wow will keep being the most played game.
This is my personal opinion but I would say that none of the game's could be considered a great game. Why? Simple...
Ive jumped from game to game looking for decent gameplay and have found nothing. I have surely seen great graphics to huge lands to run but have never found what I have been looking for. Even though I have seen and read about most of the upcoming games and how "great" they will be none of them are convincing enough. What a serious gamer looks for is not the constant grindfest nor the repetition of killing and doing quests which only change appearances once you advance in levels. Serious gamers look for a big world where you can do whatever you want, not in a sense of blowing someones brains but just have a wide variety of classes or things to do, to have a vast world full of adventure, countless new encounters and a good support team. I used to play World of Warcraft which could be considered the best game around but truely it's boring and time consuming. If you do not dedicate yourself to the game you'll have a hard time advancing at all and if you try to restart over and over it's worthless because it's the same thing with a different face...
At first I had thought I had found the ideal game but i was only too young to completely understand it but it gave me everything I wanted, being able to work for what i really want to have fun, be a serious gamer and to socialize. This game was Star Wars Galaxies way before the horrible updates which ended up destroying the game. I will not be satisfied with any upcoming game unless it can give me a similar type of gameplay.
Well 10 million is how many accounts Blizzard has sold not how many active subscrubers there are.
And ofc Wow is losing a lot of fans day by day cause they are frustrated and bored with the game since blizzard puts only more and more farming in game.
A lot of people are w8ing for the next great mmorpg to quit wow and start playing it

World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.
This means that ONLY people who currently have an active, paid for WoW account are included. Blizzard sold a lot more accounts then 10 million.
My vote for the next great mmo would be Guild Wars 2
playing eq2 and two worlds
The amount of people do not matter.... As I said it is considered the "best" game around atm but I find that wrong. Yes I played for ALOT yes I made it to 70 YES I ran high-end dungeons.... It's not worth my 15$ a month.
Well it doesnt really matter, but u are right about the subscribers issue.
I didnt count Guild wars in cause i wanted to put only games that are in development and will be released in the next 10-12 months at least.
Its way too soon to talk about Guild wars 2 imo.
It provided you entertainment obviously or you wouldn't have made it to 70 and spent all the time with it. So after all the fun WoW gave you how can you turn your back on it and say it isn't worth your $15. It was then, just because it's getting old to you doesn't make it a bad game. Also amount of people do matter, WoW is successful because what it brings to a common user and that is what has made it great. Numbers is everything in a business world and gaming is business.
aggred, and same as me. I played Wow for about 2.5 years but blizzards keeps disapointing me.
Almost nothing new, a lot of farm and becoming boring
Want some more wine? You think blizzard is forcing peopel to play wow????
There are options people can play, but have you thought maybe the people that play wow actually like it? Jesus christ wow has advertising, and so do all other games. Wows main success is down to word of mouth, and that's people to people marketing. Namely the players. So get a grip and get a clue. IIf EQ2 wasnt a suck as game for 2+ years and revived into an average game than maybe alot more people would be playing it. So dont blame other companies dismal handling of their games on blizzard and wow. Blizzard did a thoroughly good job in producing wow and releasing a world class game, its a shame alot of the other so called game companies cant even manage to get their fingers out their arses for 2-3 years.
It does matter when you knowingly put out false information.
Can you add a "none of the above" option. lol
Im sure some of these will do well, but personally, Im not optimistic about any of them being all that "new" or "complex". Im still looking forward to the next crop, which sounds much more interesting.
It's a meaningless poll. There's no way to determine if an MMORPG is going to be great before it's even been released. Besides as someone correctly pointed out, they may all be bad.
None of the above.
Hell yeah to Earthrise. Rest of the entries are for chumps.
But my vote goes for Aion. AoC and Warhammer Online will probably be good, but not likely that great. Darkfall has a chance, but it won't probably be released any time soon, same for Guild Wars 2. And as far as I know, Aion has the best chance of being a real hit and the next great MMORPG.
Darkfall is a game?
I thought it had been relegated to a cult finally.........
It does matter when you knowingly put out false information.
it wasnt knowingly ....lol, i thought so but it was my bad.
Now that AoC is almost at release i dont really think it will become a hit .Maybe at start but not for long.
So my next thought is Warhammer or Aion imho.
And cause of the gamestyle and the graphics my vote will go to Aion i think....
In my eyes Age of Conan will be the next great MMORPG although it will be hard for AoC to beat off competitors like WAR. It will be even harder to get some players from WoW. Because WoW currently has the biggest budget, so they will keep on advertising etc...
To become the next GREAT MMORPG a game needs definitely to take some (a lot maybe :P) subscribers from wow. If wow doesnt lose any subscribers (or only a small number) there cant be a single game who will reach the subscribers wow has.
Only if a game manages to get the people out of wow to their on mmo. Thats it, just find the formula needed to take people out of wow. easy ........
None of these.
The next great MMORPG will have the following:
The Lore of Warhammer/Warcraft
The Movement system of world of warcraft/fps games (eg Responsive not heavy)
the graphics of Guild wars with bigger/better environments
The game should not be sides, everybody should be able to clan/friend everybody else. And everybody should be able to KILL anybody else too.
The polish level should be of NCsoft quality.
The support system should be better then NCsoft and Blizzard combined.
When one game mixes all of these together, and presents them in a manner of guildwars/world of warcraft, we will have an MMORPG that i would pay $30/month to play.
Untill that day we will be stepping slowly towards teh ultimate MMORPG.
Lets just hope this game u are talking about is one of the games that will release this year....I will prolly try Aoc, Warhammer, Aion and WotLK and will keep playing the best game based on my preferences ofc
I am really looking forward to playing these games and i hope they will be as good as wow was at the first 1.5 year .
Cheers,
keep the votes coming !!!!
