Plus we are assuming people who sit in cities are better players that those in Open World PvP or vice versa. Whats going to be better a 12 man guild member organised team in Open World looking for organised kills getting more exp per kill (because its a guild based objective, trying to get a Battle Kepp) or The person who sits in city, in a safe area, not regularly honing his skills on a map that doesnt change that much, who is only getting BARE minimum EXP in a system that promotes PUG groups that are often unorganised. FC have guys who play WoW, I spoke with alot of them over dinner before all area's of WoW, what they like what they don't, what they would do better and their own ideas for AoC. And they have great idea's!!
I know you can que anywhere i said city meaning a safe area basically. The point is people could just grind to 80 then go sit in a safe zone and farm minigames to gain pvp xp and that could reduce the open world pvp. If they made open world pvp better xp than minigames that would help, but so far I have not seen any info on that. If you get the same xp for killing people in minigames, open world, and sieges then minigames will end up playing a bigger part in the game then alot of people would like. Would be nice if they would be more forthcomming in all of this.
Exactly Skeptical!
Lets just wait for a bit more to come out, instead of some people assuming the worst as fact. Discussing the finer points is great too and I agree with what you say as my preferance too.
You can easily assume the best as fact too, and that doesn't always work out. I don't like PvP minigames, but making them required for open world PvP is just dumb. Funcom isn't that dumb.
Thats right, and thats why they came out yesterday saying that aren't - that its a welcomed addition for a few ways to progress
Last month people said sieging was not even in the game.
Yesterday peopl said it was a requirement that you HAVE to do mini games as part of sieging.
Gamespot confirmed via interview the devs saying it will be in for launch and that they have kept it out so people that were in beta will having something new to play with once they ge in game.
-Jive
So spellweaving could be flawed, bugged, terrible, and not like everyone expects, but hey, they didn't test it so it's something new for the beta testers
Or do you mean just Open Beta people?
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
how is mini games not going to lower the amount of people who you can randomly run in to when traveling on the map if they are going to basicly just sit in town and run mini games for they pvp boost.
and the ones you will run in to will now aim to be gank only so they can keep they kill to death ratio high as that matters a lot more now.
But then again i could be totaly wrong as only time will tell, as no one knows fully how it's going to work out when the game goes live not even the devs as they can only have a idea how things are going to pan out.
You have to look at it this way... In WoW I gain 99% of my honor by winning the batleground matches, with that extra 1% coming from enemy kills. In AoC I get 0% of my PVP exp from winning PVP mini games and 100% from enemy kills. Mini games are not going to be the easiest way to get PVP exp, it just another way of killing your enemies to get it.
I know you don't get xp for winning the minigames (at least we didn't in the pvp beta) If it's hard to find people to fight in the open world and much easier and faster to do minigames than that's what people will do. Why run around chasing people down in the open world when you can sit in a city and que up minigames all day. That's what some people are concerned about and all I'm saying is that I see their point. Minigames are much different than open world pvp.
Well part of World PVP is people have to be willing to do it. If people are to lazy to go out and look for people to fight in the game world, how is that Funcom's fault? PVP mini games are there for people as an alternative, because not everyone is going to play on a PVP server and not everyone is going to want to World PVP. I don't know if you know or not but not everyone plays the game like you do. Personally I could care less about PVP, as I am in it mianly for the pVE. Different strokes for different folks.
yes guys, please listen to this post...all the pro-world pvpers are basically trying to FORCE everyone to their playstyle...i dont know about you guys but what i want to do when i log on everyday is different....if i just wanna quest, play CTF, raid, world pvp or just fish....
Funcom should have something for everyone...and they DO !
Mnigames arent going to kill world pvp...people just not wanting to do world pvp is the only thing that will kill world pvp...if its really that much more fun then DO IT ! ...quit relying on Funcom to *hard code* your fun for you, there will always be people that ONLY do things that yield rewards...worry about yourself and you will be much happier !
and QUIT comparing this game to WOW...you will have plenty of people to pvp with...there are no factions its FREE FOR ALL !! you will have so much trouble trying to level from 1-80 with all the pvp'ing going on ! trust me you will get your PVP fix !!
You can easily assume the best as fact too, and that doesn't always work out. I don't like PvP minigames, but making them required for open world PvP is just dumb. Funcom isn't that dumb.
Exactly Ascension, though I wouldn't have put it that way lol.
Some of you need to read the first post in the topic. LordOrion CLEARLY states you are NOT required to play PvP Minigames to do end game Sieging. They simply are one way to gain PvP lvls and thus help your guild out in the end game PvP.
Some of you *cough*Demz2*cough*, are clearly stuck in the WoW paradigm. Why do people in WoW do BG's instead of World PvP? Not because it's easier. Not because it's hard to find folks in Open World PvP. But simply because it is FAR more rewarding. Thats it. If it wasn't remotely as rewarding, nobody would do it.
In AoC, it is OBVIOUSLY more rewarding to participate in end game Boarder Kingdom Open PvP with capturing Resource Nodes, Battle Towers or fighting over Battle Keeps. Clearly more rewarding. For that reason, at high lvl PvP players will be doing that, not Minigames.
And Demz2 you clearly don't think this game will appeal to you. So what are you doing here? Oh thats right, joining the Troll crowd.
Blizz has seemed to realize that BGs can get stagnant and boring, and people want massive battles that can be found in world PvP. But instead of making actual world PvP (that's way too smart!) they successfully made AV one of those 30 to 1-hour long BGs again. Before they moved the Horde starting cave back, the Alliance won alot, and games lasted 20 minutes max. But now, there's alot of midfield or fighting at the towers and graveyards, leading to 30, 40, even 50 minute games. It's fun, but annoying, since people want the honor quickly.

"Mnigames arent going to kill world pvp" Unless the rewards are trivial, yes they will.
trust me...the people that will chase those rewards dont give a damn about world pvp anyway.....they will chase anything that has a reward behind it
there will be minigame fans, world pvp fans, reward fans...quit trying to force people into only one of those just because YOU dont perfer the others
We'll have to wait and see how the mechanics of this work out but, tbf fc have to realise that as a whole people will take path of least resistance and if you can farm xp in bg/minigames with the same rewards but 'on tap' as it were, they will be reducing world pvp.
My guess is they know this and that's what a dev team is actually for. It is about choice but this is about mechanics and is about the heart of the game for many, if people really want to do minigames then thats fine but why do they need the real world rewards for it?
Imo keep the minigames for fun and giggles keep the pvp leveling for world rewards in the game world. Else we will just have WoW all over again, botting teams v botting teams.
----- The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
The problem is that with mini-games, you get a ton of kills really easily...even if you suck.
So, even though each kill may give you an equal reward wherever it happens...in minigames or in the world...minigames will be more efficient because you simply get more kills there.
The problem is mainly with people that want to play on pvp servers. They don't want the focus on minigames they want to focus on open world pvp. If everyone just sits in cities queing for minigames to get pvp xp that's going to reduce the open world pvp. We know you can gain pvp xp in different ways but if grinding minigames is the easiest way to do it then thats what people will gravitate to. That's what people are concerned about. You gain honor in WoW from open world pvp too but what gets you faster honor is minigames by far. Some people will not like that setup since that's why they came here to get away from that.
Skeptical, you didn't even read my original post did you?
LordOrion basically said you DON'T have to sit in Queu and do BG's all day. That ALL PvP matters when it comes to who gets first crack on a Battle Keep. IE it's which ever guilds members have higher PvP Levels. You get (or loose) PvP experience from form of PvP, even Drunken Brawling (once that's added.) You won't have an 'honor' system where the winner gets a bigger share then the looser. It's based 100% on if you get PvP kills and if you die in PvP deaths, thats it. Because of that, end game PvP will count more because there will be far more people fighting much longer battles.
Ugh so the biggest guilds and guilds that say you must pvp will get it /sigh
Hey Demz I was just wondering, are you God??? Perhaps you have discovered the secret of time travel?? Seeing as you know the exact details of what will and wont be in AOC at release, and you are OBVIOUSLY not a troll.. I mean just look at your insightful, deap, and backed up posts. If you have somehow discovered the secret of time travel please get back to me as I believe I could make great use of such a skill by learning the future of other mmo games and coming back in time to bitch about, I mean enlighten others about, how bad they were. On another note, shame on people that would use the ability of time travel for more virtuous deeds such as saving lives or preventing global catastrophe... I mean what could be more helpful to the world then spending time saving net nerds from bad MMO's!! Lastly.....

Sure you can rack up the kills in the mini games, but you'll probably die a lot as well almost negating the pvp exp you gained from the kills.
It seems fairly obvious now they're basing priority on pvp levels/guild.
You can easily assume the best as fact too, and that doesn't always work out. I don't like PvP minigames, but making them required for open world PvP is just dumb. Funcom isn't that dumb.

Wow....I remember when one AV took days to complete.
OK, so me and my army are, let's say out for a little stroll through the woods. In a clearing we see something. "Look Captain, what's that over there" "My my, looks like a Battle Keep and we just happen to be around this neck of the woods". "Wadda ya think boys, should we take her down??" "No Captain we can't, we have to leave it alone so some big ass guild that mimigamed there way to the top of the leader board can have first crack at it!" "WTF is that you say? There ain't no-one here, why the hell can we not just run on over there and claim it as ours? Hell let the next guild that finds it try to take it away from us if they wanna try!' What kind of crap is that men? We can't just go take something we come across first because of something called ORGANIZED LEADER PVP BOARD. Screw that shit, I MA TAKIN IT!!!!"
From the information at hand, it would seem that a 20 man guild would not stand much chance of actually taking a keep anyway, not without hiring a hell of a lot of mercs. It takes A LOT of time and effort to get the keep and its only right it should take an equal amount or more for someone to take it away, these are not ready made bases waiting to be inhabited, they are effectively player/crafter made cities. The odds in attack/sieging are stacked against you, defence will be by far easier as your fighting the defenders and effectivly the keep itself.
Again we will have to see how this all plays out on live servers, but the scenario of 'coming upon a keep with buddies and taking it out' like a boss mob or something is way off from what we've been told so far. You'll need a whole lot of preparation, and they've not said much in the way of spawning, so it may come down to attrition as much as tactics, we will just have to wait and see how this plays out.
For that matter I wonder just how long it will be before the first BK is built, however long it is, I'm willing to bet the requirements go up massively over time .
----- The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
people worried about mini game grinding need to remember that you lose far more exp dieing then u gain from killing(a single opponent). Since thats the case (AFAIK) what do u think is a safer bet for gaining pvp lvls hopping in a mini game with a bunch of people u dont know or going out with a group of friends on vent and killing people u come across? Even if the other groups are doing them same with proper teamwork and numbers world pvp seems like a quicker way to gain pvp lvls to me.

I agree, losing exp in PvP levels is a good idea here. Spend a day doing mini games for limited exp and your naturally going to die a lot. This is something the complainers fail to even recognise.
