orcs won't grow bigger, dwarves' beard remain same lenght and whatever they had planned for the other races is out as well.

The reason they did that is because that system was entirely linked with the non-level based system they had before the revamp.

As you had no levels, you NEEDED something to distinguish the characters from each other so that you see an orc coming onto you and you know if he is Tier 1 or 4.

As that system is now gone and a more traditional level system is in its place (and presumably you can see the level of your enemey when you click on him), that recognizing system is not needed anymore and was scrapped.

Might be implemented later but they also had another problem and that was figure out what to do with all the other races. I mean, the system they had made sense JUST for Orcs and male Dwarves! Female dwarves have no beard, so what happen to them? And goblins do NOT grow bigger, so what happen to them?

Too many problems and too little gain gave this feature to the axe. I'm not gonna cry over it, it was neat but not needed at all.

it all comes down to looking different from everyone else.  i hate it when i am playing and running around and everyone is the same height, everyone has the same pieces of armour from that quest you just did and everyones faces look the same,  it sucks.  growing both beards and in size would provide an interesting change from all that.  also for the other races i think they said that they would end up with extra bits for their armour (skulls, sharp pointy bits and runes).

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Well thats what the double tint Armor Dye system is for & trophies are for (several thousand of trophies and up to 15 spots to hang them...i hardly doubt everyone will look the same unless everyone earns every single possible trophy)...we dont know the extent of the customization as far as the models yet so you can't count that out yet.....plus they only said the feature wouldn't be in at Launch not that its Cancelled all together.

The sky is not falling..the only way you'll look like Everyone else 100 percent is if someone literally goes to their servers makes a copy of your character renames it and uses it.

You know whats funny though is games that give you tons of toggles for everything so you can make super unique toons...is very few people mess with them extensively..and everyone Looks pretty much the same anyway in the end.  Not to mention those games can be laggy.

Youll never find a game...where everyone is 100 percent unique.

Mythic's design has always been Level / Classed base ... they didn't take anything from the previous companies design.

  • Oi! How's we 'spos ta know who'z boss den?

That does kind of suck, that was a major feature for me. Think about it, you play an elf you get fancy silks and such to make you special, humans get fancier codpieces, orcs should get bigger.

slaughter the king ... get his head as a Trophy and stick it on your armor.   There's more than one way to specialize...the Growing is not that diverse of a feature eventually everyone would be just as big and bulky as you....the Trophies & the Armor dyes are what will make you stand out.

they has some intersting stuff like as choas grew in level their eyes started glowing and such..

and as i said before  a good system...don't rule it out because its not at launch...just a want, not a need....still going to be a great game  just one fluff down out of many

Exactly. Where is this information be transmitted from? We need links, or it never happened.

Just go to the WAR official website, click the "Jeff Hickman Q&A" in Paris.  Somewhere between the time the video starts and when it ends.  Jeff talks about why growing bigger/dwarf beards didnt make it in at launch, but that is something they still want to do when it was truely done right  for all races.

Unless you are referring to when the game was being developed by Climax???
    wrong.

the first design, that was scrapped after the first beta because beta tester feedback told is was unfeasible, called for 4 tiers of 10 ranks each.

Ranks would not be levels, you could choose "blocks" of skills to learn when you gained experience, ala SWG old school so to speak. You would NOT gain hit points or stats as you gain ranks but certain blocks would give you stats (and were called "Basic Stat upgrade" for example).

The beauty of it all was that you could have choosen the blocks in ANY order you wanted and there were 3 types, Core, Secondary and Specialties. EVERY person of that class would eventually get all Core blocks, only difference would have been when you get them, but secondary and specialties blocks you could not get all, but you had to choose what to get and when.

The "rank" just referred to how many blocks you had taken and as such a same class of same Rank could had completely different skills and abilities.

Tier advancement, when you would grow bigger, would come once you completed all the Core blocks of the previous tier and would give you a significant boost in stats (or so was presumed) and open up the access to tier 2 blocks, think SWG advanced professions and you have a good idea of how the system was going to work.

THAT was their old system. Now they have standard level based stuff.

Your completely wrong Volk..its always been a level system 4 Tiers..40 'levels' or 'ranks' whatever you want to call them.  The only thing thats changed is how the Skills are set up.  Instead of having free reign to place points in what ever skill whenever you want where ever you want you now have a 'branch/tree' system (all the skills that were in the old beta are still there but its now organized under a branch or tree whatever its just terminology)..when ever you put points in that branch all the Skills that are under that branch increase and you can even unlock other skills through said branch.

Thats the only thing thats changed as far as the class system.    They still refer to everything as 'tiers', ranks, levels.   Infact Ranks is actually still in..they're called RvR ranks.

Its always been Levels just how you train up your skills, abilities, tactics etc have changed.

Here's the video where jeff adresses the growth issue. He doesn't actually say it's cut from release, but estimates a 25% chance of it making launch.

  • warcphwarcph Member Posts: 23

They did not say it would not be in, Jeff said there is a 25% chance that it would be in at launch.  He said it wasnt a priority at this point, that they want focus on other aspects of the game for right now.  But if it didnt make it at launch it would be something they would like to get in later.

I wish for once people would just get it right...

There were some setbacks with the system and though it was mainly in regards to Witch Elves tripping over their boobs after aging, there was also the issue of Knights of the Blazing Sun going all "Tin Man", and Orcs being unable to differentiate the hues of green as well as also being "Size Queens".

The feature should be re-instituted once they find a more durable brassiere for the Witch Elves, get the Knights of the Blazing Sun all lubed up, and teach the Orcs that color isn't as important as size (this should leave them fighting over only one thing and the game can continue as scheduled).

ok.. I did not want to do this cause it is not pertinent to the thread at hand, but hey, you pushed me, I push back.

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/warhammer-online/700105p3.html

    I quote

"As far as advancement goes, there won't be a traditional level system in place to determine your character's relative degree of power.

Instead, Mythic is envisioning a more open-ended and organic system. It will work like this: players will have access to a large set of skills, each of which will have a defined progression path. They'll be able to work on three skills at any given time, gaining "experience" for those skills as they complete quests, kills monsters, or defeat other players in PvP.

Once a skill levels up, they can choose another one to work on, be it the next skill on the path, or an entirely different one. Each class' choices will be limited to certain set of skills, though there will be overlap in some areas.

Your overall "tier" is a product of how many skills you've completed, and this, most likely, will factor in to your point value when it comes to PvP gameplay. On paper it sounds interesting, and very much conducive to satisfying level of customization. Frankly, I have no idea how it will work in practice, though I am intrigued."

THAT is their old system. needed big orcs. New system, a traditional level-based system needs them much much less.

THey didn't change the leveling system only the Career/ Class system...it even says it right there in your post..its not a traditional level system but its still a LEVEL SYSTEM.   They still use Tier's & Ranks...etc etc all the skills / abilities they had planned are there but simply under a tree.

this is a retarded argument you know ... terminology is rather subjective

HAHA !!!! And the reality is... this is probably the post that hits closest to the truth... I can imagine the mythic brainstorming sessions, after they had announced orc size and dwarf beard length... no way elf boobies didn't come up over and over!  i can just imagine what paul's next pod-cast would have sounded like.

@volkmar and elvenangel - you guys are both very well informed, and indeed just arguing over semantics - could you please be OK with being both right?

For everyone else who is disappointed by this - when you would've hit 40 and everyone has a mature avatar, would it have really made a difference? Sure seems like a TON of extra work. Instead they are throwing all their time into trophies and siege/keep systems... (give them some credit please!)
