I'm not saying that Earthrise will not happen at all. We're pretty much agreeing that it won't launch for Beta this year. Perhaps next or the year after. Correct, its not all about the "eye-candy." Great graphics and videos don't mean a game is in the works as we have seen with other titles. But a good amount of information can be provided from screenshots as well as what has been provided. Consider it, reading between the lines and pixels. Stay tunned to see often at the rate of new screenshots occur. As for the forums, I referred to the one in which my message was copied, no developer responses so far about the game platform. Now if there has been a response about the platform and possible specs (of course likely to be high-level or generalized), then a link would be helpful.
I'm not familiar with the drama of Darkfall, other than it's fate of going live is debated. But something to check into is what happened to Star Trek Online. As mentioned by Enigma, what has been provided so far (again, so far) is following along with what PE did with Star Trek Online.
Let's put something else forward here on the table. The announcement of Scaleform for the UI, just last month. If I understand this correctly, this allows the Scaleform system to be integrate the system into their own front-end, not for the company of Scaleform to install it and make it work. Integration of 3rd party products never work the first time though when using proprietary platforms. It takes time for full integration and proper use. So that is another point of to use caution. New UI system within the year of launching Beta? (This by itself, not to worry about; but hen coupled with other items..)
Unless of course, the platform was licensed or of open source to begin with...
I took it yes and I just realized my mistake and add to it. (I was tired and lazy when i made that post.) Yes I too am intrested in hearing more from masthead about the game engine. That is why i thought i put that post there also. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Yes I too am a skeptic of there being a beta this year. But i still have faith that is why i rell friends that they might have beta between autumn-2009.
It's actually a lie that there are no videos... I remember watching an interview for this game in which the dev was playing a "demo" of Earthrise... It looked pretty.
You can't make a post like this without some kind of link to the "demo".

No problem, thanks for replying. I was a bit irked to see my post copied word-for-word and the impression that I did the copy from there to here. Misunderstanding. All settled.
I didn't realize that this title is to have a FPS style system... mmm... FPS for a MMO, with 3 to 4 years of development, by a small team, with a home brew platform, still adding in 3rd party system... ready for Beta this year and release early next year... that is very ambitious.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
The amount of ambition with given resources is an indication of the amount of risk involved.

Lol.. and again the same ppl complaining. Look, it is a game from a indy development team, with that said, they will need some more time than a major company with 150+ developers and almost unlimited funding. Yes.. Earthrise will most probably not release next year, and even 2010 is doubtful.. but to say it is vaporware is just ridiculous. And dont expect one million advertising and hype vids like from AoC or WAR.. it will not happen, they have not the funding, they have not the enormous amount of developers, and they have most probably something better to do with their time and their money. And they have not a PR department which is as huge as a lot of indy team in a whole. So give them a break, and let them develop their game, and let them show us what they have, when they are ready for it. No patience nowadays, but not a need for a hypewagon either, estimate it, when it is actually released.. and not 3 years before.. because no game will come close to the hype before...
fair enough point, I don't know its vapourware.
but your argument is flawed. you do not need tons of funding to make a video of the game. nor would it take tons of time. you need money and time to make the content, yes. but just to film a bit and put onto the internet would be relatively effortless.
they should move thier realease date now if theres no hope they'd make it. until they do that they won't get my sympathy as they are claiming to have this finished in a year.
How in the hell do you know if a game needs alot of money to be made?
I love how players of games consider themselves fonts of knowledge just on speculation and conjecture.
Jesus Christ 3 years of development time and some moron is saying vapor ware?
I guess since wow took over 5 years to release its vaporware also ?
you completely missed what I was saying, congratulations. I will repeat myself anyway.
I said to for them to make a video of the game (claffication: not the actual game), would not be hard nor expensive. you could use fraps. most games that actually release, put out some alpha videos for marketing and such right?
they put out a couple screen shots, but it seems a pathetic amount considering the set release. why not set a practical release date, instead of alienating customers?
I hope this game makes it out of the blocks, and I agree that its a bit early to call it vapor, however the parallels between DF fan replies and Earthrise fans is uncanny. Small indie team, no time to make videos, making a quality product with more features than any 3 MMO's combined. (and all for 1/10 the normal budget) We'll see.
I think this post reflects my own thoughts. I find myself using the same arguement I use to the darkfall fanbois, why not make videos to back up claims?
I really want this game to release, who doesn't with all those dream features. I will wait and see, but I'm a sceptist. and theres nothing more fustrating then getting hyped for a game that continues to be postphoned, as I found out with AoC the past year. the only reason I did follow aoc was because I knew it was a good game from all the videos. I'd love to see this indy company prove they have more then just good ideas.
As said before, anyone can design a nice screenshot, even an "in-game" movie and shout from the rooftops how wonderful it is.
Just look at the movies for Vanguard that were used at the shows. Not a glitch in sight. And then the public found out AFTER launch that those areas had been specifically designed to market the game and were being artifically run to stop any hint of problems from showing up. And so, these days its hard to gauge an MMO based on screenshots and videos.
So, like someone says, until you actually see the game yourself, any info could be fake.
All the screen shots are just for show. They said that this is only pre-alpha shots. The rats are just there for show. They will put coolier and other stuff in there for sure.
AA: Providing screenshots with weak, low-level creatures is done on purpose. The more Earthrise advances in development the more cool-looking and unique creatures will be revealed.
there is an other interview that talks about the screenshots but i can't find it. I am sure as they get closer to beta they will release more screenshots and hopefully a video of gameplay. *fingers crossed*

so your saying they haven't made the cool stuff yet. this is slated for 2009 release. surely they expect criticism such as my own. no way they can make a mmo in a year, let alone one with all these promises.
on paper this is my dream game. but realistically I look forward to this game in abouts 2011, maybe it will beat darkfall.
All the screen shots are just for show. They said that this is only pre-alpha shots. ...
You sure said it Consensus.
All of this cool stuff, FPS play-style with a self created MMO engine, with Beta by this year's end... and those screenshots are of testings. Even if those were Alpha... Some one is deceiving somebody here or very overconfident with their talents.
Pre-Alpha to Beta in less than a year, rrriiiggghhhttt.
2011sounds plausible, assuming the funding lasts that long.
And that is why...

How long does it take to make a game? 4 to 6 years? Now I know darkfall has been out there for a long time. But I have faith in Masthead. They have talked and showed increased detail on in-game play. I am hopeful that masthead is going to release a lot of new information in june. Also a new newsletter should be released in june. So all we can do now is wait and hope. We shall see what will happen in the next couple of months leading into june. Also E3 is in july.
Who cares about Earthrise, we have Fallen Earth coming out possibly this year, and it has demonstrated videos, screenshots, weekly developer updates, and is in a playable form. Oh yeah, it's skillbased, FPS combat, and has deep crafting as well.
I obvious see that the majority who claims vaporware are a bunch of fools in my eyes.
Difference between smaller/medium sized companies and big/mass companies.
Mass companies
-have allot of money
- bigger production team
-marketing department
small/medium sized companies
-don't have that much money - smaller production team
-sometimes no PR department or just a tiny one
Smaller/indie companies do not have the effort to do this , if it is a very good product and well polished , then word of mouth will do the trick and maybe some hand made videos and voila. Maybe going to a convention and give some word of mouth at the major sites. Smaller companies are the companies that mostly give the highest quality and innovation.

Present this question to Masthead and see if or how it does get answered:
"How will you succeed where others have failed?"
If answered, then attempt the follow-up:
"How do you expect a Beta within the year, by using an innovative engine with FPS style controls?"
And that is why...

Hey Draccus join the Earthrise community and post that question there yourself and I would suppose that Moll the community relations rep would answer that for you if not one of the devs that frequent the forums or PM Moll with that question.
Thanks Volfae for posting that question and I did look at those forums, and not surprising, no official answer was provided. Actually I had thought a response would occur, not in regards of the Beta, but about the FPS style controls, rather a correction. That the combat system is more event driven than of a FPS.
Though got to ask yourselves, "Self, why is there not responses about the status of Beta?" For example, even confident simple answer of, "We are still on track for a Beta by the end of the year," would suffice. Or heck, just a link to the FAQ of the Beta question.
Devildog1; Tanks, but no tanks. I would hate to stir up the flames at an official forum. Official forums are meant to be happy places, where here and other general public forums have many points of views. Also since Volfae did ask that question and no official response was given, I highly doubt that any additional technical questions I have would be answered.
There is less than 6 months remaining to get the Beta released, unless a delay is to be mentioned. Any official word yet of the Alpha is in process? Or how about screen shots with particle effects in use (combat) and not with models just posing?
And that is why...

True. posting official forums is like challenging the fanbois in their lair.
Further looking into Beta, I noticed that the original time-line was for Summer to Autumn. That would have been right around the corner. Then the Beta was mentioned to be by year's end. Seeing that there has been no announcement or status up date with Beta, and no action oriented screen-shots, it is going to be delayed further.
What I'm trying to point out is this. Sure delays happen, hardly, if any MMO has been released on time. Masthead should keep the community informed of the status to help sustain confidence and trust. Otherwise doubts grow and the Darkfall belief becomes accepted. And then Masthead can be viewed as being deceptive, and if being deceptive with this, what else could they be deceptive about? Neither do videos. Nothing but a hands-on presentation 'proves' a game's existence if you want to be so existentialist about it.
