Please go back and read ALL of what was posted. When you do, you will realize that you are not arguing with but, actually helping 'Strike prove his (and my) point.
Originally posted by Fenrir767 You really need to play father into the game. The only blaster class that is overpowered is fire/devices. I've met plenty of scrappers, controllers and tankers that are better then blasters.
You can't honestly believe that. Hell I'd bet even Hype would laugh at this.
I have numerous friends who were blasters and decided to change classes because they are getting sick of the stupid amount of debt they can rack up. My friend who is an energy/energy blaster changed to a tanker because his blaster was getting beaten to a pulp most of the time. Ice blasters can't even do shit by themselves. Blasters aren't as overpowered as everyone here seems to think. The amount of debt and aggro that blasters take for the damage they deal more then compensates for the damage they deal.
I will agree though that any blaster that has devices is overpowered. The device secondary makes blaster way to good. If your not using devices. Your blasters really aren't that great come to higher levels.

True, Blasters are paper tigers and can't take damage like the other classes.
In my experience with my Energy/Energy blaster and usually die because I've attacked something WAY out of my league (Purple, Red cons) running solo.
If you go to the CoH boards and look me up, you'll see that I was the first Scrapper to 50, as well as the first Blaster to 50 on my server. Therefore, you telling me that I need "to look farther (sic) into the game" (you mean 'further', btw) is just a bit annoying. BTW, when you go to the CoH boards, you'll note that the Blaster I made 50 with was neither AR/Dev or Fire/Dev.
I asked this question over on the CoH website forum and didn't get an answer. How do you know that were the first to 50?
COH is a fun game that can be played on and off, unlike alot of MMOs... Your characters are endlessly customizable, you make a really cool superhero that is unique, and you have loads of fun pounding enemies either solo or with a team. It's one of the best games I've played... As far as MMOs go, it is alot more action oriented: think Diablo 2 meets Freedom Force, but Massively Multiplayer... You can really develop combos, and the game runs smooth and is fun. There are lots of interesting looking powers and new content is being continually added in updates. Content including game features, like now you can have multiple costumes for the same character and edit your costumes, and in the next update characters will have cool looking capes that actually move like a cape (not like the DAOC cardboard cutout capes)... Also, in the next update one of the new power sets is going to be a bow and arrow power set. And players will be able to customize their weapons so they are completely unique to their character.
As for community, I will agree with some of the posts here that the community is a bit less developed because of the nature of this game. In reality, the game world is much easier to get around in, and you can get to anywhere in the city, using flight, superspeed, superleap, or teleport, or the public transit in a matter of a couple minutes (unlike some MMOs where you spend a long time just walking from A to B... Like here, this is a city, tranportation is there, and you're a superhero.
What this means is that you will actually spend alot more time playing with other players than other MMOs, and the city is so huge (there are tons of different places) that you might not run into the same people over and over again... It's not necessarily like DAOC where there is like a couple dungeons that everyone in a certain level goes to... Mission zones are instanced (i.e. isolated pockets accessible by only the people on those missions) so this also adds to the difficulty of just happening across one particular friend... Not saying you won't bump into familiar faces, but its a much bigger place... like a real metropolitan city.
Basically, this means that you will end up playing with alot of people you just met. You have a friends list and friends chat channel, as well as a supergroup chat channel, so you can always find people that way, but what this game really needs is a social space in the game world... Hero bases or places to just hang out, where there might be non-combat activities to partake in. This is especially critical in this game because it is a game where you can play a bit at a time, and its tough for the casual gamer to develop a sense of community.

You're absolutely right this game is just like FF meets DII, so what part of this makes it worth $15 a month? It is exactly like the single player games you just mentioned.
You can really develop combos, and the game runs smooth and is fun.
This is also true there are very few bugs...but I never had DII crash on me either

Right, and they released a SUPERHERO game without capes
Also, in the next update one of the new power sets is going to be a bow and arrow power set. And players will be able to customize their weapons sothey arecompletely unique to their character.
This will be neat, but still not enough to make a MMO and worth $180 a year.

This I totally disagree with. There are very few places to visit compared to other MMO's and most of the places they do have look exactly like another place.

I won't disagree that this is a fun game, the problem I have with it is, it's a single player game with multiplayer options, but you have to pay $15 a month for it. There is no incentive to log on, no real reason to have other players on at the same time. I just can't see anything in it that justifies the $15 a month cost.

Right, and they released a SUPERHERO game without capes
Well, Cryptic has stated that they are adding them, and they will be in by the end of the year.

*laugh* Back in the old days, you'd check at a Kiosk. But those don't work any more, or at least, didn't the last time I checked.
You mean the kiosks scattered about the city? I finally gave up looking at them because they were always "out of order".
I thought it would be neat if the kiosks listed where to find the stores throughout the city.
Right, and they released a SUPERHERO game without capes
And SWG released a Star Wars game without any Jedi class created. Least CoH is getting their capes (3rd release) b4 SWG got theirs Jedi (was that the 5th or 6th release?)
Anyways...most super hero's don't have capes...I think it's a 3 to 1 ratio of non-capes to capes.
Rather then do a shoddy, flat, cape that has the texture of cardboard, the devs wanted to release something better. Next I hope they improve the tails.
your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
SWG did have jedi, your listening to conspiracy theories that say they didn't...and aren't you the same person that was complaining that Jedi didn't belong in this time line? Not sure if that was you or not, but not including Jedi when the game takes place in a time when there were no Jedi kind of makes sense, not including capes in a game where 1 out of every 3 people have one is retarded. I mean what were they working on instead of the capes, their crafting system or balancing the classes?
Re: Jedi; I don't think I ever brought that topic up about Jedi not belonging in that time line. My stand was, the more the better. Gave us bounty hunters someone to hunt
Didn't you find it odd that up untill they introduced Holo grinding, there were no jedi? I had a friend who even believed that to be a jedi he had to unlock all the professions, I think he got 2/3rds done b4 he quit.
As for the capes, there was encoded in the CoH game capes that someone hacked. It looked nice but from my understanding, the dev's wanted something more then a flat piece of cardboard strapped to a heroes back.
Capes are eye candy, a carrot for someone when they reach level 20 after the next patch.
Myself, I want to see jet packs and wings and trench coats

Pff there was one jedi-Yoda and 2 sith lords. With Luke trainingBut that was the original story.
After that the numerous spin off started saying jedis were in hiding.
Which kind of kills the galant ideas i had of jedi since real trained jedis hide while a 300+ old midget green thing has to train a young lad to do their battle against the sith.
Anyhow, personally i myself have said stick to the original ideas and keep jedis out.But heck that debate belongs on the SWG board.
I think CoH is a good mmorpg for the casual mmorpg player.Certainly not one for the hardcore.
I've been playing since the public general release and still going. Just so you understand my history, I'm a veteran of DoAC, Anarchy Online and Shadowbane (and a couple of others that I didn't stick with long enough to count).
I still very much enjoy COH and the update patches bring good new content and feature upgrades. It's still the cleanest game I've ever played right from the get-go, provides a unique genre and for players that don't necessarily play 14 hours a day, the content level has been enough to keep me still interested for all this time and still going. The respec is coming in the next patch, probably out within a month. As with ALL MMORPG's, you just have to be patient for some stuff. I gladly took less content for a cleaner, less buggy game knowing full well that content would be added over time, and it has been.
Like most people, I'll probably bail for WoW, but considering Blizzard's track record of pushing games back over and over before release (good thing, better game at the end) I still have time to play COH in the meantime.
