I dont trust a review written by a person who has only made one previous posting on the forums.
And my detector is acting funny when I read your post.
I bet if his review was "omg the game is awesome" you'd have no problem believing him
Are you serious ? He made a review after 30 minutes of playing with a level 6 charater. Of course he's trolling.
All Im saying is there are plenty of posts like "omg amazing" right now and like you just stated how can they judge the game having played so little ?
I wouldnt take an opinion about classes to heart at such an early stage. However his review of the linear small zones and such is certainly valid (regardless of time spent online). It in fact mirrors many complaints leaked from Beta
I read in another thread the community was 75% people on topless women running around ganking....please...please tell me this isnt true!

I am going to hold off on buying it probably till the end of the month to let the dust settle but if people are still saying mostly good things about it I may give it a shot then.
Quite a few people have made the comment of classes being the same early on and using the excuse that all or most MMORPGs are like that.
I find it important to point out that is doesn't matter what most MMORPGs are doing, especially when the only MMORPG a person has played isn't like that. For example, my first and most favorite game of all time is DAoC.
For those that don't know, players started out with 7 archetypes in DAoC. The 7 archetypes were different than each other, but it was nothing compared to the diversity one would experience at level 5. At level 5, you got to choose between several classes within that archetype and they played very differently from the other classes within that archetype. This was all before level 10 even.
The point is that just because the majority does something a certain way, does not mean those with higher standards for gaming has to seccumb to them. I haven't decided if I will be playing AoC or not, but it's the comments coming from people who like AoC that is making me have second thoughts about playing. You all are saying the game doesn't open up until after level 20. Well that is unacceptable. A game should be fun and engaging from the start, am I right? That doesn't mean AoC isn't fun and engaging from the start and I have yet to really read enough reviews to determine if it will be for my choice of playstyle.

I reccomend that you wait a bit and see. Funcom has been working hard and near the end is pushing patch after patch out to try to balance the game and correct problems.
It is not the smoothest of releases, but they seem to want to fix all the bugs before its released. I honestly think they are getting no sleep.

Depends on the server i think deathwisper and so on are hit by lot of teens. Heard about gankings as well in ffe server played only in Pve server so far (Set).
"well combos are shared, and in the beginning they are similar, but once you get more combos, that are different presses, different abilities, different things, you'll be doing combos still, but you'll not be the same."
Well see how it turns out i guess after playing other MMOs you expect the game mechanics itself to be different for each class. I remember switching from warrior to tankadin was bit tricky in this game all you have to do is to go from Guardian to Dark templar is memorize the combos.

Interesting. What I liked most about DAoC is that the game had a purpose, the level of character custimization, the amount of classes and the variety, and the comradre forged in your realm. A big kicker was the amount of group play in DAoC. I love to group.
I really don't care if there are instances, if there are quests, or how many total zones are available at the start. The only thing I care about is the above I outlined in my first paragraph.

I used to play DAOC back in the day...I see quite a few influences from the game in AoC....not enough so that it could be called a clone, of course.
You would find that some classes have many of the same abilities for the first few levels...this is intended as a "tutorial", if you will, of the combat system, since it's a little different than what classical MMO players are used to. Once you start getting into the game a bit, the specialisation and diversity of the classes begins to come out, and the first few "starter" abilities gained are typically abandoned as useless. (slam, sweep)
as far as grouping...we're going to have to see. There is content in the game that requires grouping, however that content is for the most part optional, as the devs have made an effort to cater to both group-oriented players, and lone wolves who prefer to solo their way to 80.
I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"
Easily one of the more fanbois over hyped game i ve played in awhile. I actually caved and bought the game due to not much out there atm. I had more fun lfg in FFXI. Well maybe not but it s not far off. This game is average to say the least. Before i get jumped on it how i feel.

As far as grouping content, I think WoW struck a good balance of solo/group play. I don't mind if you can solo till max level. In fact, you could in DAoC. I just like it when grouping is the easier route, so that it is easier to find groups. On-the-other-hand, WoW's balance was good too. I could enter myself LFG for a particular group instance and solo while I was waiting. The best of both worlds I guess.

Hey...
I also played DAoC acouple of years ago and I cant compare these two games, they are nothing alike imo. If anything, AoC is more close to WoW then DAoC. Just a friendly warning from a former AoC beta tester who used to love DAoC
P.S You might like the group play in AoC - pretty fun, for awhile...

Kind wish slam actually worked past 6 it was pretty good skill. Anyway from what i understand all classes share will have similar attacks (based on the group Soldier, Rogue, Mage and healer) plus a few class specific attacks.
Commenting only on the gameplay. 20 FPS with 7800 gt card.
Pros Nice graphics Starting zone is intresting
Cons Instancing and load screens: Takes away immersion gives a sense of F2P MMO in a sense. Combat is not as great or different as made out to be. Graphics while they are nice does not seem vivid or unique. I do not know how to explain but it seems to look far less realistic than Oblivion. Lack of intresting classes most of them are melee types.
I think its nice game but i think people are gonna get bored of it real soon since there is only one starting zone and not many differences between the races. Hopefully the later zones and quests are little more non linear. Also you do not feel a sense of purpose in this game so what exactly are you supposed to do?
Have you even been doing the story arc in the game? So far its pretty good and you level fast doing it... A lot better then kill X amount of spiders...

yeah have done couple destiny quests did not finish them.
I still miss Daoc siege, hope AoC will have nice one.... or maybe something like Lineage2 siege when people lvl was around lv 50... but i don't miss the siege i did when i was lv75 in there because 1 epic character could kill 5-10 lv75.
For grouping in AoC it's hard to tell, i did more grouping with my ToS and i was feeling more a caster class then healer with the feat i took to try pvp. But i was loving the CC of ToS rooting and slow enemy was fun.
For the tank part, someone who going to play tank in this game will need alot of skill for sure.I did'nt see any review of high lvl tank yet but it will come fast enough.Assasin will be popular like most game at first and many will role ranger for the fps aiming.
Just love the graphic with real human and not pink orc or cartoon graphic... It will be a nice change of all the asian mmo i played ...like WoW and more a come back to the game i enjoyed the most ( Daoc ).
I didn't group much because i did the solo story 1-13 with my 2 healer and conqueror. It was more fast lvling for the time i had for the beta. And when they open the lv20 , well i did about 1200 kill in pvp mini game to see how which of my healer was doing the best. So far with my style of play, ToS was my favorite.
Some will love the combat style of mellee and some won't !!!
Hope people will make their own opinion and respect other with it!!!
Still again sorry for my writing !!! Hard to translate french thinking into english sometime!

Have a good one.

Felt they condensed the IP to fit their view there is lot of lore in Conan where you can starting zone varied or incoporating small bonus based on class (stygians can get skill with couple min CD that increases in spell dmg temporary for example). That will add variety, currently from what i see the way the game is set up its just rush to lvl 80 so you can do sieges, crafting (starts at 40?) etc

WWIIOnline The Real War!
Hello Kanosi,
after playing Daoc 4 years i can tell you that you going to like AOC, graphic are nice, the starter town was very fun 1-13 ( couldnt play 14-19 in the beta) and lv 20 -25 was very fun to play too.
The lvl 1-20 was originaly made to be played solo..... So thats why you have more instanced zone ....
I played 2 different type of healer from 1-13 and alot in mini pvp game at 20.And tryed a mellee type from 1-13 and lv20. Both were fun and wish i had time to try assasin and ranger class.
I'm sure it's a game to be tryed for anyone who played other mmo then WoW.
You might like it like i did in beta!!!
See you in game maybe!
Hope you find a game that suit your playtime...
Sorry for my english !!
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

The best of both worlds I guess.

why do I doubt this?
