What difference does it make if it gives the feeling of an open world? I like what I see from AoC so far but WoW does things much better. The endless loading zones is just killing me in AoC.
I'll shoot the next idiot that calls WOW seamless.
I do game dev work. It's not seamless. It's a classic design trick called tunnel zoneing. You actually zone to the next area half way before hitting the zone wall. It downloads slightly in the background to prepare the files. This is why dated machines will take performance hits while getting near zone lines. You couple the games tunnel zoneing with low requirements and small file sizes.. then you now have trick zoneing. It's easy as hell to do. I've done it in a few test games I made. It's NOT seamless. So stop calling it seamless. You're just being fooled.
I also fail to see how one can even remotely consider it open world as it is not. Each zone is not physically connected to one another. You're being warped to a different cluster on the same server going though generic static portals located a long zone lines. It's dated technology that should be thrown in the garbage by now. It forces you to degrade visual and physical innovation for a poorly designed zone system.
If AoC zone style isn't for you. Then pack your bags and get the hell out. I rather take 10 seconds to zone then stare at pile of crap cartoon artwork for my game time.
They chose graphics over functionality which I agree is a negative. I much prefer functionality which is why I liked WoW quite a bit. Doesn't make AOC a bad game, just means they made a choice I didn't like. Zones and instances are terrible for world PvP and I think long term that is one thing that could make AOC a diversion for me rather than a solution.
I'm gonna play it until max level but when WAR comes out with what appears to be a much better world PvP system I may end up making the switch. That is still like 6 months away though so no worries.
The world is functionally seamless, nobody cares what it is from a technical standpoint. I can run from one tip of a continent to the other in WoW and never see a loading screen and always see what is ahead of me the entire time. From a functional standpoint that is seamless. From a function stanpoint it means I can chase someone in PvP across zones and they can't jump to another instance of a zone to hide from me or zone hop back and forth until I get bored chasing them.

From all the posts i have read over the last week or so,after level 20 the instancing is minimal.
Think about it : alot of instance with a handful of people in it (example) or open world where you cant move and the game is choppy because of the hundreds/thousands of people playing in one area at the start?
as everyone levels at a different pace after level 20 there wouldnt be as many people running around behind/ahead of you and youll get a chance to spread your wings, just a matter of holding out till than

Double versions of a zone are only created when the zone has reached its maximum. This will primarily only happen in the newbie areas. As you further adventure into the game you will see people spread out more and won't congregate in the same areas. Thus multiple versions will not be created.
It's there by design to ensure you don't sink to 1fps or crash out, which do you prefer? You either accept it or leave. If someone wants to run. Let them. Why bother chasing them? Plenty of fish in the sea.
Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but i read a lot of complains about instances. So this means that the game is like Final Fantasy XI, were to get to an specific area, most of the time i have to zone to 5-6 areas before getting to my destination? I ask cuz the first time i heard the instance word in a game was in WoW and i was under the impression that it meant a batteground for a small number of ppl to play alone.

Oh I understand why it is there, it is because they decided to go heavily into graphics and had to make a design choice because of it. I just don't agree with that mode of thinking. I would gladly trade AOC graphic quality for WoW graphic quality if it meant doing away with zones/instances in the world.
The dungeons will likely be instanced, especially the more popular ones. This is a big no no for me in world PvP. Don't get me wrong, I hated instancing in WoW too. If you create enough content you can survive completely without instances. Competition over resources is a large part of what creates community. I would glady switch back to the EQ days of dungeons being overcamped if it would do away with instances.

So you mean it doesn't magically makes the files appear in your computer's memory? I see...

I'm sorry, but mmos eventually have to jump into higher graphics, just because it's a mmo, doesn't mean i have to deal with 7 year old graphics.
Tunnel zoneing is dated technology because it forces the developers to degrade the game down substantially. Even straight down to core mechanics such as combat.
You're gaining more then just improve graphics. Yes zoneing is some what annoying, but the trade off is a beautiful world to explore and for more innovative game mechanics.
You people seam to have made up your minds on the game. If you can't accept it. Then LEAVE and do us all a favor already by shutting up.
Which is fine, but not everyone is you is my point. What will ultimately drive me away from AOC is that the game is poorly designed for world PvP and that is what I want the most out of a game. If I wanted some eye candy graphics I'd just go play a single player game which does it better than AOC in the first place. From a purely PvE standpoint it works great as well, it just doesn't work for PvP.
So for some people it is just fine, for me and many other players it is a pretty big issue. All depends on what you want out of a game.

So anyone who disagrees with you needs to shut up? Interesting view you have on life. Zoning is a negative pure and simple, I don't think anyone disagrees with that. I'm sure if Funcom could run the game just the way they wanted and get rid of the zones at the same time they would do it.
It is a tradeoff they chose to make and not everyone likes the tradeoff. That doesn't mean people made up their minds on the game ahead of time, just means they don't love everything about the game. That is a very valid opinion to have.

I dont knwo tbh but im looking for pvp similair to daoc, and this game sounds like tis going to have that witht he keep sieges, i imagine at higher levels u'll be doin more of this then anything
The sieges are capped at 48 vs 48, they can only happen during a certain time window and the 48 players who start on your side get flagged and nobody new can join in the siege.
I guess I am kinda looking for DAOC updated as well and that is what WAR is which is most likely my next long term game. That is 6 months away though and a lot can happen in 6 months. Maybe when I reach max lvl in AOC I'll completely be in love with it and won't be interested in anything else, hard to say. If Mythic taught me one thing it is they stink at PvE content and that part is important too so who knows.

I played on palomides and TBh we rarely saw more then 48X48 at one keep unless it was a relic raid, i guess i just have a lot of wishful thinking tho b/c the more mmo's i play the worse they seem to get, early uo was my favorite followed by ac then daoc and nothing worth mentioning since
don't really know, because I wasn't on the Beta, neither I am in the early access, but... I think most of AoC isn't instanced. I mean, you can have "zones", but having zones doesn't mean it's instanced, as you don't really have more than one instance of the zone (except in some dungeons, I suppose).
A game fully instanced could be Tabula Rasa, where every zone has at least 4 different instances of itself. As far as I know, a instance is a "copy" of something. If all the players entering "zone A" go to the same "zone A"...

Exactly.. so enjoy the time you got in AoC, because you never know what could happen. 6 months is a lot of development and play time. So a lot of changes could happen.
I don't have much faith in Warhammer with EA at the helm. I stick to my choices and not purchasing an EA product ever again is one I firmly believe in.

Seamlessly running into a city that does not allow pvp or zoning into one doesn't really make much difference.
