1. WoW has no policy on ganking and its doing very well but what AOC can do is like WoW when in spirit form you can move away from your corpse alot and ressurrect and run away. BUt in WoW i was ganked constantly i didnt whine about it, if you dont like ganking or getting ganked go to a PVE server simple as that. Or play in groups. PVP servers bring the community together in a way PVEers cant understand.
*blink* Yeah...totally going PVE server.
I'd rather have a community of people who enjoy each other's company than a community that huddles together like scared sheep.
Ya know in the hardcore PvP settings (like Shadowbane or the old Zek servers of EQ) some of the closest and most awesome (and friendly!) guilds emerged and I would give anything to go back to "ye olden days" like that again. I think the scared sheep are the people who are fleeing to the PvE servers....they obviously don't have what it takes to muster the counter-attacks on the organized griefers. That's what REALLY makes open PvP work is when guilds and players pull together to help the lowbies and the newcomers and fight off the PK'ers.
For many people, PvP is a feature in a game, not the main focus. To make PvP the main focus is to ignore what the game has to offer. Just because you can kill anyone at any time does not mean you should. I like FFA, because you can deal out justice to those who deserve it (kill stealers, griefers, etc.). However, my time in game doesn't revolve around PvP. What you are talking about is fine for a war game, but AoC is more than that. The lack of rules on the FFA PvP server only hurts the community on that server, not helps it. PvP is supposed to be fun for everyone. When it is not, there is something wrong with the PvP system.

listen.. this is age of conan this game will seperate the men from the boys, and i must say, stating that ganking happens in the game is quite silly if you dont want to play like this, go PvE... but FFA is how the game is meant to be played.. if you think getting killed out of the blue is annoying, youve got the wrong game. And if you dont like it being done to you, well paybacks a bitch so go out there and kill who ever kills you until they leave you alone you need to earn your invulnerability here, the rules will not give it to you.
Yes because in the Conan books and Movies, the characters just weant around killing each other. Sure there was murder, but not nearly on the scale as on FFA PvP servers.

I find this freaking hilarious, i can't believe people are complaining that players in a PVP game are being cheap. The average PVP player is like that, they are the 1st to try and find the hacks to give them an advantage, they quickly find any and all exploits they can use because a "pvp" player, again the average one, is basically a weakling and a bully. They know that without an unfair advantage they will lose and these peoples only enjoyment comes in making others times in the game miserable, they are nothing but sadists and sociopaths.
So to answer the question when will the ganking end, when you quit playing AoC
What? So the average PvP player is a cheater/exploiter/sadist/sociopath.... Because that makes PERFECT sense!
So because I take an aggressive point of view going into AoC's gameworld, I'm a cheater/exploiter? No, I am just a person who wants to PvP and have fun stalking my prey and ganking them when the time is right... as I did in the beta. I won't hack or exploit, I'll just kill them when I want to... Do you think in the world of Conan there is sympathy? Do you think that people ask if they would like to be killed, and given a choice? Do you think Conan could have arose from nothing and become a King using sympathy? I am a heavy roleplayer and believe that killing out of no where if someone is killing the same mobs as you is necessary.

Rofl, this is hilarious. Here's what you do, log off the game, delete your account and get back to watching the tweenies, where everyone lives in harmony and no one ganks anyone. Seriously, this is why I hate WoW, I hate playing with you kids. 'I dont like ganking', ever playd UO? Should try it sometime, first proper MMORPG which was a brilliant succes. You could gank as much as you wanted and it was actually a fun game because it meant it was difficult to stay alive and you didn't have to ask someones permission to kill them. Yes WoW has sorted ganking but hey, WoW's a shit game for mindless retards?... I'd prefer to play a game that required some level of intellect in order to stay survive i.e. the solution being, make friends, hide or just use your imagination. If you dont like the nasty-wasty people swinging their meany-weany swords at you and etc. then go back to WoW with the rest of the 5-10 year olds (+ the occasional older retard).
Interesting that you claim to enjoy games that require strategy & intellect but obviously advocate something that requires only cowardice & immaturity. What will all the psychotic gankers do after the first month when the more civilised players either switch to PVE servers or quit the game entirely? If too many of them do the latter, then what do you think Funcom will do?
Yes in theory, players will form their own methods of policing gankers but in case you hadn't noticed most MMOs these days try to encourage casual players & soloers rather than alienate them. If it is impossible to do anything without a posse of higher level bodyguards, then what was the point of Funcom creating lots of solo content?
Why do you think most MMOs put limitations on ganking? The answer is pretty simple & doesn't require that much intellect? It's because a minority of retarded gankers can alienate the majority of civilised players so much that they take their nasty-wasty money somewhere else, making a large hole in the tasty-wasty profits.
I haven't yet had a chance to play the game myself, but if the ganking situation really is that bad you can absolutely guarantee that Funcom will bring it under control within the first couple of months. Any game that has invested so much money in development & advertising is not going to allow it's profits to be damaged by a bunch of childish jerks.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
If one goes to a PvP server and does not expect to be ganked here and there, then I'm thinking they might not have gotten the memo about PvP servers. Want to have certain controls on when and where you do PvP? Play on a PvE server. Pretty simple. Going on a PvP server and then complaining about getting ganked is like buying a Hummer and then complaining about poor gas mileage.
Again, there are no RP-PvE servers, so there is no choice...
Unless you don't want to RP that is...
The players on the Conan forums voted on an unofficial RPvE server that all roleplayers not interested in playing on a PvP server could congregate on. The unofficial North American RPvE server is Wiccana.
Considering the amount of people that actually read the forums, as can be found by looking at the total posts and threads, it is safe to say that the majority of RPers do not know there is a Unofficial RPing server. So the point that there isn't an Official RPing server is still valide.

Theres a simple player driven solution to this gank problem. Have a Gankers list on a forum. Players can report these gankers and the policing guilds can locate the names and spotted locations and start hunting them down. hey these guilds culd even encourage people to keep their eyes open for them and to report them to a guild member if spotted or to announce it on OOC channel. Turn the ganker from the hunter to the hunted.
No, the ganking won't end. Why? Because this is a level based game, a huge flay in the FFA system. Anyone of a higher level will automatically rape a lower level regardless of skill. Enjoy your endless ganking.

This was tried in UO too.
Heck, the Anti-PK guilds proclaimed proudly that non PK's were safe, and that the PK'ers would never get anywhere...
Well, PK'ers outnumbered tha Anti about 10 to 1, and quite a few players of UO that left in disgust(And there were many enough of those to warrant the trammel divide) didn't even get to see the world outaside the cities.
The cities in UO was constantly surrounded by PK'ers, while the anti PK'ers(whom have very rose coloured glasses these days) could only maintain a presense 2-3 hours a day....
so keep dreaming... No rules = anarchy... It's been proven over and over again, and everytime someone repeats the mistake, rose colored glassed "veterans" and gank hungry PK'ers try to paint the game as a place where everyone holds hand and sing "kombaya".

I agree, lol hecne why I avoid FFA-PVP servers like the plague. I'm still suffering from shellshock from the failed experiment called UO.
That said people asked for a FFA server and they got what they asked for I was just giving the raving lunatics some advice for how they can police it themselves if they so choose. Remember atm the PVP crowd are still trying to claim that the gankers are a minority. If that is the case then my soloution has merit...

I'm a 30 year old with a PhD, I play WoW. Ganking is one thing. Zoning and being killed before you've finished loading isn't. Half you "retards" that make stupid posts like this can't actually survive in a real PVP game you just like to talk a lot of shit to deal with your real world issues of being bullied at work.
Right... I see your logic here, my views on ganking in an online game are a psychological reflection on my apparent real life issues... brilliant, blatantly you were well deserving of that PHD off yours.
Switching sarcasm off, surviving in a 'real pvp game' means that you use your wits and common sense to survive, ganking is a huge part of this.
What makes me laugh is that you've play'd WoW and think you know what a 'real pvp game' is, thats pretty bloody hilarious. I've been playing MMO's for the past 10 years and anyone thats with me, anyone that has ever play'd UO, will be able to support me when I say real PVP hasn't existed since blizzard ruined the MMO community by tainting it with the plague that is WoW.
It's nothing to do with 'talking shit', its to do with looking forward to AoC as a true PVP game and a true MMO, rules ruin MMO's. Was WoW a good MMO because you had to ask permission to kil someone? Hell no, it made it a childs play thing, something only suitable for kids so they wouldn't cry to mommy and daddy after they were killed.
As i've said, if thats what you want from an MMO, please stay on WoW, anyone that wants a challenging game with a true sense of PVP, stay on AoC and ignore these blubbering whinging kids.

Ah, but there's the irony. As far as the business investors go, Blizzard didn't ruin the MMO industry, rather they demonstrated that it could be a goldmine. The sad truth is that the idea of PvP as a ganker's paradise is incompatible with that of having a wide audience appeal.
Now which strategy do you think Funcom will adopt in the longer term, keeping a minority of sociopaths happy or making lots of money by addressing the wishes of the majority for a more stable environment?
Still you will always have your memories of UO, but thats the problem with nostalgia, it isn't what it used to be.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

Seriously, why do people sit here thinking they know something about MMO's because they've played WoW.
An MMO shouldn't be civilised, it should be as close to real life as it can get and through that you gain a real sense of living your character. If thats not what an MMO is for, why not just play a single player game. This isn't alienating soloers, you can still solo as much as you wish, but you have to be willing to face the consequences of roaming on your own.
'Most MMOs put limitations on ganking' Sorry... Most MMO's? WoW doesnt count as 'most MMO's'.
And btw anyone saying UO was a failure, get your facts right morons, it was the first proper MMORPG and essentially it was the foundation that WoW was built on, as well as any other MMO's after it. It's the oldest MMO and should be respected as such.
UO/SWG/EVE, sod all limitations on ganking and they were all initially successful and brilliant games (SWG obviously went downhill once it tried to incorporate aspects of WoW into its gaming engine). The so called 'most MMO's' that you claim dont exist. What does exist is your idoicy when you sit there claiming to know something about MMO's because you've play'd WoW, the MMO suited for kids which btw was the only reason it was successful. It was the first MMO to suit a much younger audience, which is fair enough, but anyone wanted a decent challenging game will hate WoW.
Every game that has tried to replicate WoW has been a dismal failure, just look at Vanguard and LOTR online, both failures, both just skins of WoW. If AoC wants to make money they'll distance themselves from WoW as much as possible and thus distance themselves from the retarded and childish population that play it. The only exception to this is that of casual players, if your a casual player then fair enough, ganking may irritate you but sorry, if you want to casually play an MMO then just stick with WoW.

I don't actually play WoW, it just didn't appeal to me, it was too cartoony.
The only part of real life that ganking emulates is being the school bully who steals lunch money from kids much younger than him. A world that permits ganking is about as far from real life as you can get. In the real world, thugs eventually get arrested & removed from society, or is there some historical era you had in mind where everyone just laughed it off because no-one stayed dead?
The idea that Funcom would happily allow AoC to be inaccessible to casual players is just laughable. Enjoy the ganking while you still can because Funcom will do whatever it takes to protect their investment in the longer term. If the gankers are in the minority, then they don't have much to lose by alienating them.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
The pve servers have a ton of pvp content not sure why there are so many pvp servers. Although I do like the open pvp style, aoc is not design for that... running around trying to complete a quest in ffa is like running around in an open battle field = nuts.
In 2008, its poor game design to be able to kill people before they are in the game and able to control their character. Its the same issue as letting people escape death by logging off or using some magic travel feature.
Without these two basic mechanics, its not PVP its still PVE. Anyone killing someone not loaded in is simply killing objects in the environment.
It will be changed because its a modern MMO standard.
Ganking is what follows when you slap FFA on a PvE game. It really is that simple. Funcom has no clue how to make FFA work, or it was at the bottom of their 'to-do list'. They really should have stayed what they know how to do, PvE and arena/BG PvP.
Let the PvP nerf commense! I'll give 2-3 months tops before the real PvP crowd will start looking for a new home. Again.

I agree with you London. Some of these Pvpers even most sound fine but people like Costello remind me of the punks I had to deal with during my time in the army and working in a prison. If I wanted to worry about a casualty of puberty trying to kill me I would go back to work at the prison or go back into the military. Killing a newb in a game doesn't make you a man. If that is how they get their rocks off then get into law enforcement or the military then tell me combat is still fun. I play mostly Pve servers to relax had enough punks trying to take me out only difference is in the game they get more than one chance.
Well, tens of thousands of years ago, primates realised that killing everyone was counterproductive, so we developed intelligence and social skills in order to acheive our goals instead.
If people want to pretend to be stupid apes, let them, get them off the PvE servers, good riddance! And if you roll on a PvP server and get ganked, it serves you right!
I agree that the pvp server is currently terrible. but how can you complain when theres a pve server to join. theres NO disadvanatges to pve server. when you in a group and you want to FFA pvp then you just head on down to the borderkingdoms.

I'm still suffering from shellshock from the failed experiment called UO.That said people asked for a FFA server and they got what they asked for I was just giving the raving lunatics some advice for how they can police it themselves if they so choose. Remember atm the PVP crowd are still trying to claim that the gankers are a minority. If that is the case then my soloution has merit...
Just my 2 cents

I am a RPer and Im not on the PvP server. Matter of fact, there are tons of RPers on the PvE server. AOC is too grief friendly right now.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
