OK, so now we are not getting the DX10 until later this year.

This was listed on the main AoC site

Funcom has decided to ship only the DirectX 9 version at launch, giving the team more time to focus on building a DirectX 10 version worthy of Microsoft’s great vision for the future of PC gaming. This postponement will let Funcom include even more features in the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan than originally planned.

Does anyone know if we will be able to download the DX10 patch, or do we have to go out and buy the new version of the game.

I can honestly say not only for myself, but many others would be extremely pissed... considering they were promising DX10 at launch, and to then make it something we would have to pay for as an extra later, is completely unacceptable. Many of their customers would just leave if FC tried to make a quick buck this way.

I believe, though, that they are smart enough to realize it will do more damage to their company than good. It will be a patch, without a doubt... if in a new box (or even as a feature for an expansion that you have to buy to get the feature) then it only proves to me that FC would have little confidence in their game... but I'm pretty sure at this point they do have a high confidence in the success of their game... they realize their game will be a success, so forcing their customers to buy a feature that was once promised at release is unnecessary.

Like I said, in the long run it would do more harm to their company than good, and I do believe they realize this. Like many said, it is a small feature. But the principal is what will make smart consumers realize what the company is trying to do... but FC has not done so yet, so I will continue to believe they know what they are doing... they certainly seem to be showing that so far for the past couple of months for this game.

Definately it sounds like there is an "issue" with DX 10 that cannot be fixed quickly.

My money is on microsoft broken something in directX 10 that needs a service pack toput right, although rumors are that MS have started already on DX11.

We'll see what happens when it happens.

wow, never knew that DX10 wasn't here. I had it check and everything maxed. Can't wait to see what DX10 looks like, cuz its looks nice on DX9

I am too, very disappointed that we are not getting DX10 on launch after so much was promised.

I read on this forum that folks are not that troubled if its 9 or 10.

I have played LOTRO for the last 6 months with all my 8800 Ultra graphics settings set at max. This game is indeed beautiful, DX10 makes hell of a difference in water effects, lighting, shading  and particle effects.

After waiting almost a year for AoC, I feel now that the launch is something of an anti-climax.

Towards the end of closed beta, I'm pretty sure DX10 was available to choose in video options. People in chat said they turned it on and the effects were "photo realistic". Don't know why they didn't bring it into release maybe they are fixing it to make it better, dunno.

Smart move by Funcom by delaying the DX10 version. DX10 has had so many issues with current games these days. Glad to see they don't want to release buggy software.

Out of curiousity, did someone at Funcom actually confirm that dx10 would be in at launch? Link?

Ummm I might be misunderstanding it, but it says right on the box that the game is enhanced for DX10

It has been said in interviews and web/forum posts all over the web. Funcom have also posted dx10 videos all over the web to hype the game.

Here is an interview with game director Gaute Godager, this was on April 18th, just 1 month ago:

The game is on schedule for launch the 20th of May as we speak. We polish, remove annoyances, and optimize. Finally the client is approaching the target rendering performance, and it certainly is looking smooth. We are working hard on the features we haven't shown off in beta, features we have held back on purpose to have some new revelations at launch. Among these are spellweaving, massive PVP, and DirectX 10. In addition to this, the classes are getting their final overhauls before launch. We are doing some balance focused only on PVP now, something I prefer doing after the PVE aspects have been more or less stabilized.

So this brings about the question of why Funcom chooses to keep hyping DX10 until the very last moments.

Do you really believe they didn't realize DX10 wouldn't be able to make it at launch until the very end?
