processor: AMD Phenom 9600 Video Card: ATI Radeon 3600 512mb Ram: 2gigs corsair Sound: some cheap sound blaster card Thats the important ones I guess, I'd post my dxdiag file but I'm at work and not on that machine. I did build it myself and I know it's not the best machine in the world but it should be able to play most games well.
cpu is fine, memory is ok if you are not running vista (vista is a hog on memory), video card should be fine but it is the low end graphics card 3850-3870 are more suited for running with higher graphics up. I'm waiting for the 4870's to come out, myself - I have 1950pro which is probably comparable to the 3600. it runs the game fine but I'd love to run the game on max with AA .. I guess I have to wait since the 3870 are not that much better.
Well, I just went out and preordered/received a copy from (gs) , there were enough people in this thread and others that gave me a story saying that this game has improved enough that it's going to be what funcom promised and what most of us hoped it would be that I decided to give it a go. I really think the combat at least the melee aspects of it are very well done and I enjoyed the universe they used for the game. I dont expect a bug free game, just the beta client I played right at release of the file planet client was just bad, and hopefully the 'miracle' patches crusher and other have cited are really that because this game has potential to be great. Hope to see you guys in game tomorrow.

Game become a lot better after lvl 20 than it was before. Instead of being railroaded along a strict plotline (which is fairly fun the first time) then you can no go out and do what YOU want to do in a fairly open world with far more adventure than you can ever hope to experience on one toon. So far it looks like you need to play 3 different character to be able to try out all the content while lvling.

Yeah, after the pvp weekend ... the idea of a smooth launch seemed far fetched. I know they reported a couple of problems, but personally, I've had absolutely no problems running the game on my machine. Which I would rate as being mid-low level... I've had 0 crashes over the weekend, during which time I spent about 10 hrs on the game. I dont know what they did, but they did a helluva job in getting the game relatively bug-free and running smoohtly in just a few weeks. Will try to hop back on tonight when the servers are up - I can only presume it'll be even better after the updates tonight (though tomorrow might be a big ... crowded).

My computer is 2 years old and runs this game on medium settings like silk. And ontop of that this has to be the best MMO launch I have ever played. Wow, out of 15 people your the only person to give a negative comment. One you never played the game, two you played during beta(which it was horrible in the OB, but somehow Funcom did have a miracle patch that no one said existed). I play the game, and have run into a few annoyances(one bug where my minimap didn't show me or quest locations, but was easily fixed by turning it off and on again), but overall the game breaking bugs were fixed.
This is definately one of the best launches ever. I've spent an addictive amount of time playing this weekend without a single crash on high. Granted dx10 isn't up and running yet, and I've heard they are delaying the release of a dx10 version but everything else has been very smooth. As far as content after 20 I've found plenty of quests to do. After lvl 30 quests thin a little and it requires you to travel to the three different areas for 34-36 quests but it gets you familiar with the world. As soon as the servers come back up you can bet my lvl 36 guardian is going to storm the ancient pyramid in stygia!
You want to know how AoC is? Buy the game, play it and have fun. This is the only good way.
To all the peoples that base their FACTS on things like "I heard"....well.....that game is simply a masterpiece to me.
Missing content? I think not....siege battle is there....player cities are there, crafting is there and I personnally know enough quest around the world in the game to go from level 1 to level 75 without grinding any mobs.
Is there bug? Yes there is, it is a MMO. The day any MMO stop to have bugs is the day they stop adding contents and it is also the day they start going down. Hey, listen. I'm DIRECTLY arguing with the morons who said that this game has the best beta and release of any MMO in history. That is a illusioned lie. The beta was absolutely horrible up until about a week ago. I know, I was there. Yet somehow, people think that it magically never happened. And yes, I'm judging on a beta, because you know what open betas are for? NOT for finding bugs anymore, its a free advertisement and preivew for the game. Closed beta is to find bugs, barely. Open beta (which was never even open to begin with, money grubbers) is to show off the game. And what they showed off was ugly as sin. I am still shocked by the miracle patch.
and now we enter the typical debate about what the purpose of a Beta is. Of course, the beta can only have a singular purpose and therefore is doomed due to it not addressing everything else.
Perhaps we could agree that a beta is set to accomplish a number of different things:
- an invitation to a select number / demographic to spread word of the game by means of some free advertising. Lord knows these games cost a couple of bucks to produce so it may be sensible to use every marketing channel possible. Its not as if there are many MMO's coming out so standing above the pack is not really a problem is it? But then, if it is a marketing tool, why do it when there are so many issues that will be reported?
- perhaps its because the beta also serves some technology driven testing problem such as load testing, etc. Could it be that these devs with their immense decades of MMMO programming really need to stress test and refine coding pre-launch. Perhaps it would be an idea to combine this with using the public as free short term employees and maybe we could use it as a bit of marketing as well seeing as there is no way we can censor their thoughts on the myriad of internet forums anyway.
But wait...what if they do openly complain about the state of the game and do not have enough positivity about gaming and the industry to not flame? Perhaps we should issue some kind of disclaimer that warns them about the quality of the experience they may get and that it may be changable. Surely this would serve to pre-warn such an intelligent bunch.

The game runs near perfectly for me, I have only come across one serious issue and you can easily keep yourself away from it(Pyramid in Stygia).

I only played a day in OB, it was very laggy and crashed a lot.
Its much much better now. They did some patching clearly cause the game runs much smoother now.

The beta was absolutely horrible up until about a week ago. I know, I was there. Yet somehow, people think that it magically never happened. And yes, I'm judging on a beta, because you know what open betas are for? NOT for finding bugs anymore, its a free advertisement and preivew for the game. Closed beta is to find bugs, barely. Open beta (which was never even open to begin with, money grubbers) is to show off the game. And what they showed off was ugly as sin. I am still shocked by the miracle patch.

and now we enter the typical debate about what the purpose of a Beta is. Of course, the beta can only have a singular purpose and therefore is doomed due to it not addressing everything else.
Perhaps we could agree that a beta is set to accomplish a number of different things:
- an invitation to a select number / demographic to spread word of the game by means of some free advertising. Lord knows these games cost a couple of bucks to produce so it may be sensible to use every marketing channel possible. Its not as if there are many MMO's coming out so standing above the pack is not really a problem is it? But then, if it is a marketing tool, why do it when there are so many issues that will be reported?
- perhaps its because the beta also serves some technology driven testing problem such as load testing, etc. Could it be that these devs with their immense decades of MMMO programming really need to stress test and refine coding pre-launch. Perhaps it would be an idea to combine this with using the public as free short term employees and maybe we could use it as a bit of marketing as well seeing as there is no way we can censor their thoughts on the myriad of internet forums anyway.
But wait...what if they do openly complain about the state of the game and do not have enough positivity about gaming and the industry to not flame? Perhaps we should issue some kind of disclaimer that warns them about the quality of the experience they may get and that it may be changable. Surely this would serve to pre-warn such an intelligent bunch.
Mind you - bet some of em still flame like hell because we just cant please everyone.
