I am all for exploration as well but AOC is lacking in that department.
Ive read mixed reports on this "exploration" aspect of the game, ive seen posts saying that if you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploring, then you will love this game. But on the flipside ive read that indeed the game world isnt big enough yet to merit the validity of that comment.
Again as with so many points being brought up the last week, much of this is speculation without having a wide array reviews to read, or having the chance to actually play the game ourselves for a few weeks.
'Speculation' is a nice euphamism. I would think that 'bull shit' is a little more accurate and descriptive.
the game world is huge, dont kid yourself, and this game has alot of room for expansion as well..lets hope it doesnt take 2+years to come out with a expansion like blizzard did with wow...
Would I rather have a ridiculously HUGE and empty world with an unstable crappy game because the foundation didn't get as much attention as the 'size' of the world...
Or would I rather have a 'smaller' but still large enough to have plenty to do world and a stable core foundation laid making it that much easier to enjoy the game and get addons to the world...
FOUNDATION is the most important to an MMORPG. Once it is well laid, the game can grow and grow and grow. But if you screw up the foundation, no amount of 'extras' will save it. Bigger does not mean better. It's way better to have quality than quantity. Quantity can come later.
The world is not small by any means in fact it feels quite large... and really immersive. Also, hopefully rather than paid expansions, Funcom will have updates like Turbine does with LOTRO for free, opening up new areas every time.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
Zones are not huge. They are in fact tiny. Any linear in many cases. The poster who said explorers have nothing to do was not kidding. Sure, they have lots to do, if you count going back to the same camp over and over a lot to do. It is the most bland MMO I have ever played that was not Korean.
Plus, every quest has a nice little arrow on the mini-map, so they is no possible way to have to search for anything. Death penalty is a joke. You will see zerg tactics, suicide travel, etc, because there is absolutely no reason to fear death. Leveling in the mid levels still takes about 30 minutes per level. You will be seeing level 80s before week one is over, I predict. This is the most carebear MMO I have ever seen from a major producer.
Boobs and blood will only keep the kids amused for so long.
What do you mean by that you mean rest of the zones are smaller than Tortaga?
AOC is really small There is 15 zones , 3 of them are cities , 3 are gathering crafting zones , and one is PVP zone. That leaves it with 8 world quest zones. Each of those has 3-4 additional mini zones , and few dungeons. Mini zones - I done everything you can do in mini zone "Pict temple" in 2 hours.
Good thing is that ZONES are superbly detailed, and look stunning ! But Funcom will have to add new content very fast. Just as Turbine did for LOTRO

i wonder if funcom will make us pay for content upgrades or will they do the right thing, such did the devs with LOTRO. i cant comment on the size of the world as I havent yet left the first starting city.
My guess is that you'll have to pay for a lot of stuff based on what I've seen so far.
With 700,000+ pre-orders and all the people who are going to buy it in retail stores the first week, I am curious how the servers are going to hold up to 1,000,000+ instances running. Not to mention the massive overpopulation and waiting lines for quest mobs once people get out of the starter instance.
The waiting lines for camps in the early years of EQ come to mind.
I have a feeling the majority of my play at release is going to consist of logging in and reserving character names.

Its actually 100.00 pre-orders and 700.00 boxes shipped to the shelves of gaming shops not bought.

Ok. Care to elaborate on what specifically you base that upon and what you've seen so far?
I'm interested in hearing your rationale because I'm of the complete opposite conviction.

Stop Crying. Please.
Doesnt sound like he is crying but explaining the mechanics of this game. Everyone is entitled to their view especially people who have played to level 80 and know what the game plays like.
He has a point in that this type of game play gets old fast . I would say you will be the one crying once you realise the fact that AOC is a linear game .
What is it with fanboys who only want to hear about the good things about AOC but as soon as anything negative is said they accused people of trolling or in your case crying.
I think everyone is forgetting what a MMORPG stands for. Since AOC is in this category, let me expand a bit.
MASSIVE - Large vast open areas with vast amounts of players, npcs, and scenery
MULTIPLAYER - Large amount of people playing to gether for a common good

So.... If these zones are small then MASSIVE would be out ... right?
So... These Maps better be big as hell.. I mean if i start running on one end it should damn well take me 20-30 min to run across.... So all the peeps jumping up and down cause we're qqing about lil maps needs to watch us walk out the door when we find out the maps are small :P
From what I experianced in the "Open" Beta the world isn't that big. for exemple the Khopshef Province is about the size of Elwynn Forest in WoW, and the Conalls Valley is about the size of middle Arena of Blades Edge Mountain . However some zone have Mini zone which are about the size of a 5 Instance in WoW.
All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.
Question: Can you climb up the sides of mountains like in wow and find ways to the other zones up there then slow fall down and emote as u fly into the other zone?
Can I leave the path and train 20 mobs as i run through the zone... again spamming emotes in which my character screams choo choo?
Can i jump off the side of a cliff and enter another zone from that cliff?
Or is this game so linear I have to go to a specific point on the map and enter the other zones that way?

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
for me the world is too small, it feels small, anyway smaller than anything i played before, yet its so beautiful that i could end up playing the game

willing to bet that Kop. Province is as big if not bigger than tortage and all surrounding areas. There may not be MANY zones..but they ARE big.

People that think the zones are small probably never played the game before, or only played WoW.
