So wait, no DX10 support?

Wow.... just... wow. This game was supposed to be a flagship entry for DX10, and was supposed to be of the first releases.

Not only have there been considerable DX10 games, like Crysis, but even a DX10 mmo already (LotR) and even with endless delays they can't even deliver it.

Just shocked, makes me wonder more and more what else is missing or incomplete.

If anything it shows the skills the programmers of LOTRO have. It's a very polished VERY smooth running game. A kick ass PVE MMORPG. They did a great job mechanics/engine wise.

Not insulting AOC devs at all. They just couldn't do what the LOTRO team has succeded to in that regard (Dx10).

Just one article to support this.

Oh, and directly from the AoC community site in the article about selling out the collector's edition:

"While Funcom is thrilled with the early success of Age of Conan, and proud of the game launching this week, the company regrets to inform gamers that the DirectX 10 version of the game will not ship with the initial launch. As Microsoft’s DirectX 10 is undoubtedly the future of PC gaming, Funcom has decided to ship only the DirectX 9 version at launch, giving the team more time to focus on building a DirectX 10 version worthy of Microsoft’s great vision for the future of PC gaming. This postponement will let Funcom include even more features in the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan than originally planned"

From playing Lord of the Rings and Age of Conan I see the same DX 10 effects.  Also there is an option in the game to enable DX 10.

Blatant ignorance! There is no DX10 in AoC. Deal with it!

Granted I don't have my retail copy yet, but the EA version had a DX10 check mark...

Look how many people this simple move of leaving the DX10 option selectable by Funcom fooled. They STILL believe DX10 is in the game even when evidence containing Funcom quotes are shoved in their face.

it took a bit for LoTRO to get directX 10 as it did not launch with it.

Perhaps, but AoC was developed and touted as an initial DX10 flagship game and after countless delays it doesn't even ship with DX10.

DX10 was a bonus to LotR and rather unexpected and it's had DX10 for several months, and besides, it was never one of the selling points of the game initially.

If I remember correctly, LOTRO neither made any promises of  having DX10 at launch as a surprise feature nor heavily hyped up DX10 support as a marketing ploy.

Actually I read that the devs weren't even going to use dx10 when the developed the game.

It's more of a compliment to Funcom's shrewd and slick strategy instead of an insult to some random guy on the forums.

    To Zorndorf :

Actually it doesn't. Not if you're an objective observer anyway. max settings AoC directX9 is a notch better than max settings LOTRO directX10. This came with sacrifices in AoC's lack-of seamless world of course.

Personally I'm a tad disappointed that AoC does not have directX at launch, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt and see if they manage to implement it at a later date.

It's not. Just some (WoW) fanboy ranting with an agenda trying to find flaws in AoC, even in places where there are none to find.

It will be there soon, btw srry about your vista problem.

FC is busy unloading the wheel barrows of money. And when the devs sober up Im sure itll be on the top of their  list.

  • ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

Considering the low adoption rate of Vista ( and don't get DX10 without Vista ), I hardly think this will put a serious crimp in subscriptions.

OK I admit the words "where" "held" and "experience" weren't lies.
I must admit though, the programmers behind LOTRO did a remarkably better job in creating an open world experience. Pity they didn't go for the "good vs evil" players style so ended up with a bleak PVE system.
But LOTRO beats Conan in visuals, that I have to admit.

    ok... that made me laugh.

and yes LoTRO was supposed to support dx10 at launch as it was the first mmo under the "Games for Windows" banner.

    *back to the point*

and since I have been with LoTRO since beta and speaking of Vista and all its gaming goodness (interpret how you wish) when it (LotTRO) launched it had a severe game crashing memory leak in Vista while using the highest texture setting.  but I love Lotro and I love AoC but nothing not even the things that we love are perfect.

    edit-

AoC's graphics kick the crap out of LoTRO's without dx10 and I can't even max everything out in AoC and I can in LoTRO.

Sorry but just how long ago are you referring to. As far as I've known, AoC was created with DX10 always in mind. In fact, this I JUST got from their FAQ section, kinda laughable now considering:

"We’ve worked closely with Microsoft on DirectX 10 technology. To our knowledge, Age of Conan is the only MMO developed from the ground up with DirectX 10 in mind (though it runs perfectly well under DX9, as well)."
