Downtime - here we go again

PraxusPraxus Member Posts: 266

Great, downtime was just extended by another hour.

After the 1 1/2 day early access this is getting to be a bit much!

this is literally normal for almost every MMO to have ever come out. You are going to get this. Never call out from work the first week of a MMO; you'll only regret it.

Good thing most people in the US are in school or at work atm. It's your own fault if you took a week off of work to play an MMO on release week, they tend to be shaky at best.

hey it sucks but its better than having a buged and laggy game

  • IcePROjectIcePROject Member Posts: 41

My guess is that they are fixing Lacheich (SP?) issues so it's not bugged, it was working perfectly in beta, IDK what they fucked in there!

I agree with the OP. Yes I do understand it was just released. As for these problems we dont know about, they should of been  handled before release dont you think? I dont think its a stretch to ask for a product to work after you pay/purchase.

I dont pretend to be a tech of sorts or understand the in and outs of making/sustaining an mmorpg. I do understand when someone purchases a car you dont tell them " hey, you may not beable to drive it tomorrow because we didnt get all the bugs out". That goes for anything you purchase. its annoying and upsetting to put down 50 bucks for something, come home and install/patch and then see that its unavailable to play. A mere 24 hrs after launch and what some 2/3 days after the Free Play some got to participate in.

Im not here to say whoa.. games going to fail. Im here to say this type business model where we continue to test a product we are paying full price for is getting a bit old.  You can come and give all kinds of examples of how all the other mmorpg companies have done the same and we just have to deal with it, well im here to say you dont and you shouldnt have too.

Bottom Line, you pay for something it needs to be ready to roll.

Again with the car analogies.... look, mankind has been building cars for over 100 years, and we sort of have it down to a real science by now.  Even so, haven't you ever been told to never purchase a new car model the first year its released, because there's always more defects in them than succeeding model years that have to be worked out of the first release.

Making MMO's is a relatively new business, and most teams are made up of first timers with limited history, OK, not Funcom.

I've come to expect this sort of behavior, even if I'm not thrilled by it.  Hey, I play EVE and its been out more than 4 years and sometimes when those patches and upgrades go in we experience very long downtimes. (everyone knows to set a long training skill on release/patch day just in case)

I agree with Kankan. i dont buy shit just to wait and use it. when i buy it i want it to be ready. How many people have bought a 360 game and were told nope not right now wait?! NONE. so how come we as PC gamers take it. I jsut dont understand it. and then when people get pissed about it u get the typical... Well its a MMO blah blah blah. STFU. its people like u why the companies do it.

Are you all freakin MMOG newbs or something? Don't you remember WoW at this point? Whole server groups down for hours and hours, huge delays, having to wait in a line to log in.

and these are the people i am talkin about. So  we see ur standards are low for games... wat about women or maybe men wat ever u like?

I agree 100%. It is the low standards that people have for games these days to just deal with bugs and any other issues that come up.

What if you bought a car and it had issues too. "Oh don't worry about it. It just came out, they'll recall and fix it sometime." "Don't worry about the leaking room or lack of hot water sir. They house was just built. Also we'll get the power hooked up at some point down the road"!

MMOs that have no downtime = non existant.

MMOs that have been on the market for approximately 24 hours with as little problems as AoC has = slim to NONE.

Dont know where youve been for the last 10 years, but this is definitely nothing new nor is it ever going to change for the online gaming industry.

Geez, relax... Read a book, go upstairs and give your mom a hug. This is a game that's just been launched...It's been a pretty smooth launch and the game runs great.  Be patient.

I've played the game perfectly fine since launch. No real lag, no stuttering, no problems.

But that isn't true for everyone. My friend, who has almost the exact same comp and set up as me, can't even patch because he gets the assertion failed error. And so have a LOT of people. Go check out the official forums. Not a single response from Funcom about their problem either. Hoping the current down time will fix some of this because he is very understandably frustrated that he cannot even patch the game he has been so eager to play....

i have no problem giving them the time they need to fix it.   i cant imagine the kind of stress those people have to go through, im sure they make (more) mistakes because of it, no one is perfect. just give them a chance, it isnt going to happen instantly.

I suspect that after the rollback between Monday and Tuesday some things were semi-broken.

If they fix Lachesis Plains (which locked me out until customer service scooped me up this AM) and the Traders, in genral I'll be happy.

Not having in game mail or bank, especially having experienced it is making my eye twitch.

It is getting old, I paid $50 yesterday and the $5 early access fee and have played a total of about 10 hours since start because of the down time. I like this game, but I am not paying to test a product its starting to piss me off. I don't care if "we are suppose to expect it" because it's an mmorpg, if anything a mmorpg should have LESS bugs considering the company is making around 100million a year from subscripion fee's. Call me a troll all you want, but first check my post history, I am far from a troll.

*edit* Oh imagine that their fucking forums are down again, sigh. Not good customer service atm.

The only thing that irritates me is the fact that.. they add an hour to it.

Then as that hour ends.. there is no update AND the forums vanish.  So now you don't know wtf is going on.. (who cares if its up or extended again but its odd how the forums vanish quite often when the time comes for an update etc).

As far as the game goes (when its up) very little issues.  However, the bank/broker/mail being disabled is irritating.  Perhaps a good reason to not tie the bank system into the broker and mail.

i dont mind at all the downtimes because if they didnt do this the game wouldnt work

  • PraxusPraxus Member Posts: 266

2 MORE HOURS DOWN or worse. This sucks.

  • slippyCslippyC Member Posts: 396

    ...and Again!

Damn, this is getting old.  Would be nice if they could actually have servers up before schedule.  I don't think I have seen 1 time where they have come up early.  Seems like 90% of the time they need an extra hour though...

LOL, two hours of downtime is now 5 hours. They just added two to it.

Guess I wont be abel to play anymore tonight. As I have to work the night shift tonight and tomorrow.

Ah, just have to love these, oh publish it down, we'll just fix everything later things.

lol, i remember when people used the Car Analogy when defending Sigil and Vanguard the first few weeks after release.

Car analogies don't work too well.
