Think up typical situations based on if there are instances and if there are not any. And think what are the real difference. Would the really be any difference in a gankers possibilty to escape revenge, nah not really.
Are there less people to interact with, nah quite the opposit. And so on.
No your wrong, because while there are still those 2,000 or 4,000 players.
Those players are split up into multiple different instances for EVERY zone. So for example, your in (dont know towns couldnt play computer isnt good enough) Goober Land Zone. (made up for example) Now your friend is in Goober Land Zone too. But he is in a different instance of Goober Land Zone than you are thus he can not see you. And needs to change instances to play with you. Thus creating more seperation then say having one instance for each zone.
So everything you just said is completely wrong, not trying to bash you but i don't think you understand what people are complaining about.
I don't see any other fanbois, other than AoC's. lawl
the OP made a clear statement pointing out a major flaw in this supposed MMORPG. Yet the fanbois here are either too ignorant to read his entire post to understand what he is actually saying, or just simply flamed him because they cannot come up with a counter arugment. AoC fanboys = lols
I don't see how you can call this a serious MMO while people are zoned into different instances randomly. onlinenow225 explained this perfectly. You can't even play with your friends without having to manually switch between the instances. And i thought the OP example was good comparing the game to CS. Basically whats happening here is that you have randomly generated instances where people can join/leave at their will. Whats the difference between this and CS, where again you are free to choose to join/leave a server at your will?
I don't see the "massive multiplayer" aspect in this game as i am always only interacting with a small number of people in which ever zone i go. Sure it maybe different people, but there will always be that limit on a number of people i could interact with at one time. I may make some friends and enemies in this zone, but i may never see them again in this game unless i contact them to manually joined the instance im currently in.
I don't see how this is NOT an epic fail for a MMORPG...
I'm standing in Instance "Thor" of the Wildands right now, alongside instance "Nu" and "Balder", there were a dozen last night, but it's early morning now. Open world in AoC is a lie. It's like a counterstrike lobby. The world is devoid of any consistency, double click on a boat and zone into another random instance. I was spurred on by the promises that everything gets better past the first few levels, I find that these are simpy lies. The game is a mangled, buggy mess of instances and zones, but I won't go into the myriad of bugs - I'm quite tolerant of such things in a new MMO. My issue is with how the game is designed from the ground up. The really disappointing thing is how this affects PvP, you really don't have to worry at all about pissing someone off because you can easily change instances at any moment. This also allows insta-travel back to the zone in, among other things. Do not believe what people are telling you, the game doesn't suddenly become "open" at higher levels. I will finish by relating my experience with PvP. A guy was being a moron over [OOC], announcing whenever he was ganking someone. Several people started to get irked and threaten him. This is a PvP server, you act like an asshole, expect to get ganked. Some of us decided to go find him and chop off his head or whatever. We searched and searched, but in the end it was fruitless, he was in another instance. He taunted us, and said that if we ganged up on him and found him, he would simply swap instances as soon as we approached, and he could continue spamming crap in OOC for all of us to see. If I were Conan I'd order this game destroyed. 5 years they took to build this... it's Vanguard 2.0... only instead of anything resembling progress, gone is the seamless world, replaced with arbitrary instances and piss-poor game design. Failed.
It's sad how many people actually believed the game was different once you left Tortage. It is actually worse as the game isn't as polished as Tortage is.
give it a couple months and they will increase the population numbers of each instance, do you really think it will be like this forever?
Yes, once everyone reaches level 80 - it really will be like this forever.
lol funny how you say how it will be when you have no proof or reason. With time comes bug fixes and performance increases. Go back to your old game and QQ more about how you got pwned in pvp and couldnt make a character on a server you can handle or enjoy. Your talking out of your ass now.
I'm not faulting the game for it's bugs, I'm faulting the game for it's very flawed design. Once all of these people level up, and the population hits the end game, how do you think the game will handle instancing differently?
Please stop trying to claim I got owned in PvP and QQ etc, it's really immature.
it will handle it the only logical way, by increasing the population per instance. And you are the one who played on the pvp server, lol its pretty hypocritical to be calling somebody else immature. And again you have no proof or anything to compare AoC to. Also bugs and performance fixes will help the game's "flawed design" later on. People complained about spawn/zone camping and less then a week later FC introduces a 20 second invulnerability buff for when you zone/spawn, This proves they are capable of fixing what is flawed. Move along troll, and wait another 25 days then make your review.
I'm immature because I play on a PvP server? Sounds like a great cure for a mid-life crisis, sadly, I think your logic is a little lax.
My "proof" is provided by telling you the names of the instances I am standing in... right.. now as I type this. Merely ask me to go to a place in game and I will, for your 'proof'.
Performance isn't really an issue for me, my computer is very capable, and the graphics are very beautiful. The art direction is great. The issues are not with performance, but with design, like I have said before.
proof as in how you know they wont change the population in instances ......
Performance is a issue for others not just you. Performance = more people able to handle more graphics and more avatars on the screen.
Yes i find it very hard for someone to not be immature on a AoC pvp server, if you dont have an epeen or a competitive nature i doubt you can last long unless you have a group with you at all times.
EDIT: but i guess not all pvp servers are like this, its just the majority of what ive seen.
You just don't get it do you. Who the f*ck cares if they increase the instance cap. I don't care, it's not going to change much. The cap will go from say 48 to 100 and there will be 30 instances per zone. The fact is, there WILL ALWAYS BE INSTANCES. Who the hell wants that? That's not an MMO. I want all 3000 people in that area too be viewable, not just a small portion of 48 or 100 at any given time. Not too mention the zones in AoC are sooo small... I swear WoW is probably bigger than AoC and WoW is freakin' small...
So I don't care if they increase the cap per instance. The only way I'll play beyond my 30 days is if they remove the instances period... and perhaps make the zones larger or add some new zones.
Good post OP. I'm curious, these so called mature people that dont play pvp, are they posting in this thread calling the OP names and flaming him?
Has anyone who has been flaming this guy showed proof his claims are false? Has anyone submitted a screenshot showing all these instances?
Has anyone taken into consideration the impact of all these instances on pvp. This game has always been marketed as a pvp game.
When someone can just pick an instance to get away from a fight he's losing, etc. it's worse than evac in eq2. Even better, gank someone then evac or /instance will kill pvp. The obsession is astounding.
Thank you OP for showing me that. I was confused as to how the world system was set up.
After seeing multiple videos and reviews this looks like such a joke.. I hate when developers try to over complicate things.. They've gone for the realistic look and seem to have failed hard in terms of matching that with the combat system.
Oh well here's to waiting for the WoW expansion and/or warhammer.

So in WoW do you not do everything instanced? WoW pvp is all instanced , battlegrounds arena. Endgamepve all instanced dungeons , what makes it so bad about AoC being divided into zones? surly alot hav played WoW should be use to loading screens lol

Thats what I was thinking. Even Ultima Online is instanced.
I know, I registered today so my opinion doesn't really matter and blah blah blah.. ok.. any MMORPG.com forum veteran, who thinks his post/opinon > my because he is registered for a longer time, do not even waste time of responding on this.
Now to the point.. Few things are really beyond me. First, OP described his problem with a jerk and flaw of PvP server where just people can switch instance and nobody can do anything and AoC fanbois start calling him fanboi or carebear. OP has a valid point.. if Conan is MMO..or PvP game.. switching instance is horrible horrible design flaw.. but ok.. At least it's easy to separate AoC fanbois from others.
Second.. zones =!= instances? How people just can't understand this.. Zones with loading screen are instances.. nothing more, nothing less.. and especially when zones are making copies of itselves. So yes.. AoC is instanced game.. not seamless like WoW for example (i know, wow has instances too... but world is "almost" seamless).
Third.. zones are capped for 48 players.. Do you really guys think this cap will be rised? No.. probably it never be.. because of Xbox .. Devs designed this game with xbox in mind.. Xbox is not PC.. Xbox is just limited.. that's why there is a lot of istances, invisible walls, player limits etc.. It will never change IMO only because of this single reason.
I am really not bashing AoC.. I am reserving my opinion when I will play it more and will see a end-game. But from my little experince (which are beyond level 20).. game is heavilly instanced even above level 20. But for now players caps for zones, heavy instancing, and weird pvp is making this game just medicre MMORPG which will be more than GOOD MMORPG for console players (because they don't have any other choice).. but there is sill hope.. AoC End game can be awesome so this game will be worth to play for more than 2-3 months. TBH, I doubt, but there is still hope.
well i think i get the whole instance thing and understand what they are doing.
they can increase the amount of players per instance to the point where eventually when computers catch up there might be only one instance.
i dont care for this type of instances either i would much rather it just be zones where you might have 500 people per zone yet eq2 did it this way as well if iam not mistaken.
i would rather have instances though then hitching every 500 feet.
the game plays great for me but i do understand your gripes and feel you have a valid one.
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!
I don't really mind the instanced concept, and I'm only level 16 atm, so I haven't seen the game post-20. Right now when my son and I play the first thing we have to do is find out which instance we need to meet in to group up.
While the instancing doesn't bother me, all the zoning is starting to annoy. Take the temple/undercity area in the starter zone. You can't run more than 30 seconds to a minute w/o coming across a door that will zone you to another area. It means you see a loading screen all the time, and while these zone doors make excellent escape roots from gankers, it just isn't something I'm fond of.

Effectively they're same thing; you're sequestering players existing in the same area into smaller junks.
Instancing (or whatever euphemism you want to assign) isn't that big of a deal for me. What bothers me mostly is the lack of content.
