Actually this is real, people are spawn ganking people for the hell of it (because they're really hardcore they can kill the defenseless) that they're introducing a prison/bounty hunter aspect ot the game. Essentially, if you continue to kill the same person over and over within a time frame, or someone x numbers lower then yourself, then your tagged as criminal. After a time you either get tracked down by bounty hunter npcs and go to jail (and do menial task to get out) or pay a ransom.
Essentially, the community of AOC is a bunch of little "hardcore" kiddies that just like to sit on noob isle and kill lowebies or spawn camp over and over.
If that's true, that's pathetic. I'm sorry. Players are more than capable of defending themselves, and if they're not, they're more than capable of going to a PvE server. As ALL the PvPers have said OVER AND OVER. Funcom being your mommy? No thanks.

is that a real gm? rather pathetic if so. I suppose I could understand if you were camping the opposing player for hours. However, the articulation of the rules by that GM was terrible. It is hard to adhere to a rule when you can not understand its stipulations.

I am sorry, but if someone spawn camps you, there nothing but assholes. If this is what people call PvP in a MMO, then head over to my favorite FPS CD4 and I will show you what true spawn camping is all about.

I haven't got spawn camped "yet" but funcom should do what EQ2 had to do. Give a 30 second immunity upon zoning into a new zone.
To Ascension08: Players are NOT able to defend themselves when zoning into a new area. Theres a good 3-5 second gap from when you have control over your character after you zone,,,which means,,,people can see your character 3-5 seconds before you complete the zoning process. So,,,,ITS AN EXPLOIT PEOPLE ARE USING WHEN ZONE CAMPING OTHERS. One cant defend themselves If their basically paralyzed long enough to get themselves killed or nearly killed without having the chance of doing anything.
THIS IS FUNCOMS PROBLEM THOUGH. PLAYERS WHO LOVE TO GRIEF ARE JUST USING THIS TO THEIR ADVANTAGE. But, I'd never waste my time doing this simply because I'm not a child. It's pointless to me to kill those that cant even fight back. That's not pvp, it's griefing. Although, thers many kids out there who love to grief more than fighting a fair fight. And when they actually lose, they're the first ones crying on the boards for a nerf of the class that killed them fairly simply because they suck at true pvp and all they can do is grief people,,,

Right, I for one am one of those people who, if running by, sees someone killing a character's avatar and that avatar is doing nothing to fight back because he's zoning, I'll go kill the attacker. Or if I can't, I'll get a few people to help. But yeah that's just me. Leave it up to the players or put in some rules, but if the company has to take it into their own personal hands, that's not a good design.

Funny thing is that because FC screwed and there is a complete lack of itemization AoC would be perfect for full corpse looting, but i dont see that happening any time soon

Felt the same, corpse loot would give a sense to all this pvp, as long as pvp lasted a bit longer instead of being a "1st who hits, wins". Right now its about hitting in stealth and stunning fastly right after.

Ganking is part of PvP play but when some dude picks on another player for an extended amount of time, like 30 minutes, you know that the dude is just doing to piss some one off.
We dont know the total situation here so there is really no way to judge. Pretty much every MMO has had some conversation like this at one time or another when some one complains that there is some weird reason for the GM to take action.
Back in early WOW when it couldn't handle a bunch of people in the same spot i got threaten by a GM because i was raiding a city which caused some lag. The GM said that i was causing server instability on purpose. I was going to actually fight it if it wasnt for.... the actual horrendous lag that made the rest of the folks that werent threaten give up on the raid.

You try to justify you existance by saying it's a PVP server...if they dont like it go to a PvE server. Aye...it is a PvP server but that doesnt justify ganking...actually I pitty people like gankers that have nothing better to do than to grief people. ..it's sad really O.o
I used to admin a BF1942/DC/FH server. We had full FFA with Friendly fire turned off (you could kill your own mates). We used to have people like this come onto the and spawn camp, team kill and just grief in general. They would recieve 1 warning, if they continued they were banned.
NO, In case you're wondering...we always had a full server and our clan competed in the Forgoten Hope challenges.
There is a difference between the realism of FFA PvP and someone that just ganks because they can.
I've seen things, you...people, wouldn't believe... . Attack ships on fire, off the shoulder of Orion... . I watched C-Beams, glitter in the darkness near the Tannhauser Gate... . All those...moments will be lost in time... . Like...tears...in the rain...

No sympathy here; repeated spawn campers are losers. Sure its no big deal to f*k someone around a few times; but it sounds like you were camping his spawn for a long time. So it sounds like you got what you deserved.
I'm speechless.
1. They need to hire people with a minimal amount of command of the english language as GM. "No lol I didn't say anything like that'... I have an issue when the goddamn GM sound like a random dumbass player.
2. If you're going to have rules, they have to be rules. Clear cut, predictable, and making sense.
"Few" and "know what I mean" shouldn't ever be uttered by a GM. Basically what the GM said is that they can ban you if you kill someone and they feel like they don't like you.
This could be a big problem in particular as it leaves open the possibility that a GM take revenge on another player who previously ganked his playing char.
3. If you want to have rules, build them in the game. People who QQ about corpse camping have no understanding of the dynamics of a player versus player game. Basically, you start stiring shit (CC'ing is one way to do it) so people organize themselves to counter attack you. If people would see it as a challenge to be overcome (by getting help and organizing themselves) instead of QQing to the GMs, it could blossom into a nice, spontaneous, fun PvP battle. The guys doing the camping would probably like nothing more than that.
If you start having to impose limits on yourself to what you can do to other players, you're falling into the scrub pitfall. Gaute and the other design leads at FC need to read and internalize this: http://www.sirlin.net/archive/playing-to-win-part-1/
4. people attacking players after they zone... How could they fail to see this coming?
There used to be in the code something back from AO where the server, upon zoning in a character, would wait for the client to send an acknowledgement that it finished loading before activating the character. They shouldn't display the character on other clients at all until this happens.
