War and AoC are the most anticipated games right now. well AoC is out, but it is top of the line in MMORPG's, Aoc will grow to most likely millions of players much like Wow, and War is also a top notch game about to come out. it looks right now that WoW is at the peak of its popularity.
As Conan just came out, i know many people who have switched to it just because it is New and a very good game as well, many more of my friends are telling me once WaR comes out that they are leaving wow and going to play War.
as it is, many former WoW players have jsut moved over to Conan and many more are planning to, nobody will ever be able to just stop WoW, LOTRO helped alot but with these two games i think that we can assure one of them as the new King of MMORPG's
Im not saying that Wow is bad, im a WoW player myself, im just simply saying that i think there is a need for change in the most popular MMO out there
Comments
AoC has a 17+ rating so I doubt it would take over WoW and even with WAR it wouldn't take over. I really doubt it but it's only my opinion.
Yeah i know that there isnt much of a probability, But theres always a chance it will, i'd just like when your in a conversation where as soon as you say MMORPG, somebody brings up WoW
WoW is a really good game, but its just been talked about so much that everyone knows almost everything about it
Lots of people will be leaving AoC once they hit 45+ and realize there's almost no quests as they didn't finish the game before releasing it. Having the entire world split up into small instanced zones also seem to be a major complaint at the AoC forums. WAR is going to have a massive playerbase, but WoW is simply a giant - no one is going to kill WoW. WoW will die slowly of natural causes as any game does. I'd be very surprised if they don't ship out at least 3-4 expansions after Wrath of the Lich King.
I don't think we will ever see such a big mmorpg as wow agin in the next few years / or even never again
wow has opened the doors for a lot of people to the mmorpg market. And there are so manny games now and more is comming so people have a lot to choose from ... So a blockbuster like wow? no. It doesn't mean WAR and AOC won't be popular, they will have a HUGE playerbase, but they will not hit the 10 milion subscribers like wow
Wow will stay the 'blockbuster' mmorpg for a while, I think you need like 10 times AOC to kill it...
But I don't think you wanna "kill" wow do you? It's true that wow will loose his popularity in time
But in 10 years wow will still have servers running. UO is also still running
I have played wow for years, I still love it but it had his time ^^ I need some new things
I've played some f2p's and guildwars, done the trail of eq2.. , I gonna try AOC at my friends place soon. If I like It I will buy it, But I'm also thinking of LOTRO and I'm waiting for TCOS ^^
-------------------------------------------------------------------
waiting for ... nothing..
lol yeah, i agree, im just hoping that this will speed it up
Add time into that equation and you have a winner.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
I think that WAR and AOC will spell the end of Eve Online and COx, probably also Champions Online, even before it's released.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Why does everyone want to see WoW toppled?
I always thought it was a pretty game. They might not have the best of things in it and might not cater to everyones need, but it's still a good game. I just don't like they fact that they don't listen to players comments a whole lot. (Not a WoW fan boy, haven't played WoW in over a year. Just not a hater.)
i also don't understand the need to be either/or. at one point i was playing both wow and eq2. the world didn't end when i added eve online and had three mmo's which i played. no crazy matter vs antimatter going on.
i think the question we should be asking is more along the lines of "will aoc/war be FUN and ENTERTAINING for years to come?"

I'm just curious why in the heck everyone wants WOW to fail so bad?
I could see if the game was responsible for our rising oil prices or the 9/11 bombings, but it's a game. If they can get a piece of the American,British,German,Indian,Mexican and however/whoever government pie, more power to them. I hope Blizzard keeps on rising to the top as a good majority of their stuff in the game is complete and too the point (I shouldn't have to do a linear Algebra problem to make a template).
I'm quite sure Warhammer and AoC will pull some folks from WOW, but not all will follow and hell, the more I read about the new hero class coming in the more I think about re subbing my account, along with Warhammer and SGW (when it hits).
Now thinking on it, I have to say if everyone hates WOW and the players so much, why in the hell is everyone wanting them to come to Warhammer?
I think AoC will have little to do with it - but WAR will have a good stab at WoW's heavily armored chest.
The only thing that will 'bring down' World of Warcraft will be Blizzard's next MMO.
It's going to happen. eventually. I think it will be a combination of the following.
A new mmo
removing a large portion of the userbase, ban wave
disenchating a large portion of users, 10 man raids?
another new mmo
nothing really new in the expansion
10 man the hardest boss in the game? Arthas? I dont think so.
I doubt that AoC and WAR will kill WoW, as others have said. WoW is more accessible than other MMOs because of it's lower system requirements and how easy it is to play. But having said this, WoW will see a reducing player base over the next years as, so far, they have not produced anything new. Each patch bings more of the same in PvE content and people are beginning to see this. The next expansion will be basically the same as TBC, another 10 levels are questing to do the same at level 80 as you did and level 70. Daily quests become a monotonous grind with dozens of others competing for the quest items required. The PvP system has been badly designed, it rewards people with better gear than people with better skill. The Arena system has more holes than a colander and is easily exploited.
WoW will never die, it will be there for a long time... just not with it's current subscription numbers.
WoW will stand the test of time, I think it's the other MMOs you should be worryed about.
EverQuest lasted for 5 years (99-'04), untill WoW came. There is still a playerbase who plays EQ. Wow is now 3 years old. Eventually it will slowly go down in subcribers. and servers will merge. People still have computers from 3-4 years old and keep on playing WoW.. Technology will see new MMO's like AoC and WAR.
I guess by that time Blizzard has begun making a WoW 2, or other MMO (diablo/starcraft?). The MMO market is till growing, I believe there must be hundreds of million people (USA, EU, ASIA) playing some sort of MMO so enough of potential players to go around..
You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.
What will happen is that every major game released will make WoW work harder and harder to keep their playerbase.
Thats why o got LortO,and AoC.
Did i enjoy "the best graphics you ever seen"?
Yup, but the games are bad so it doesnt matter.
Am i the only one that thinks they should stop trying to make better and better graphics? Isnt it enough soon?
Get a great game with the graphics available and you will get the subscribers, instead of what happened to Lotro (and what is about to happen to AoC), many bought the game but cancelled the subscription after the free 30 days.
And please, get the glitches done before releaseday.

wow cant be killed. It will exist long after OP is dead
It will see increase after WoTLK, maybe 11 or 12 million
AoC's graphics will look dated before you know it, they did the right choice because MMORPGs last so many years.
it has low system requirements for tomorrow's super PC.
Solid state harddisks are already here, but expensive. Samsung is releasing a 256 GB SSD with 200 MB/s transfer rate soon, can you say insta loading?
We are entering solid state era soon, huge textures will be no problem. My next PC will make my current PC seem ancient

I liked this reply:Crowbot: they'll just load more stuff since you can load it faster ...
And:
johnnyabnormal:
IIRC, an average 5400RPM drive of that size/capacity (it is hard to find 7200RPM/2.5" drives > 200GB) is around half the speed of what these drives claim: 110MBps read/80MBps write vs 200/160, respectively.
So the difference in speed is not abysmal. I was thinking it would be like 100 times faster.
But you don't understand why WoW is the most popular MMO.
It is not popular because of die hard MMO players or "gamers". Oh sure, these people play it but that is not why it is popular.
It is popular because Blizzard had a good name, because they make a polished product, because it is easy for anyone who doesn't play games to get into it.
It is popular because you don't have to spend a lot of time to have some fun. It is an unassuming game as well.
Conan will not appeal to so many players because of it's content, and War is more geared toward a pvp game.
WoW is played by families, but fathers and sons, by women at my company of all things. It is a pastime.
It will most likely have the most players for a very long time because it appeals to people who wouldn't normally play games or have the time to do so.

I'm thinking even the fastest traditional harddrives are 4 x slower because of the seek time. Solid state drives have no moving parts, therefore SSD got constant performance. They also start up much faster.
Traditional drives can transfer 120 MB/s if its one big file, and the harddrive is fragmented. SSD transfers 200 MB/s constant.

So what if there will come something even more awesome graphically?
So what if the new harddrives can go faster, make dinner and drive your kids to school?
Those things doesnt really matter if the need for it is just theoretical?
When WoW opened anyone with a 1-3 yo pc could play it on good/great graph. (and still can), if you want to do that on AoC you need to invest 10 times the worth of the game to even come close to high-end graphics. How many outside the hardcore mmorpg-community is prepared to do that, especially when the "recommended" isnt even close to get you a playable game (imo).
I bough AoC with a recommended+ pc at hand to see this mindblowing graphics, amazing and groundbreaking PvE and kickass pvp.
I got neither.

AoC will not kill WoW. They will be lucky to keep 500k subscribers.
WAR has a shot to subscribe 2-3mil and depending on how well they do the PVP/RVR they will sustain them.
