Summer has just started and people are already doubting that beta will come out. There is a lot of major events in summer. Next week is june so a new newsletter should be released. Also E3 is in july. A lot of major companies wait till a major event happen to release a gameplay video. We just have to wait. It is after all a small company that was created in 2005. There QOTW are answered every week on monday which are all very professionally answered and all there interviews are also. Also as it has been stated by someone else some companies have been developing the game before it has been announced.
Also the "normal" creation time for a game to be developed is about 4-7 years. Yes there is a very small amount of games that are pushing that time line.
Who cares about Earthrise, we have Fallen Earth coming out possibly this year, and it has demonstrated videos, screenshots, weekly developer updates, and is in a playable form. Oh yeah, it's skillbased, FPS combat, and has deep crafting as well.
Oooh, good point, thanks for reminding us of another game that bears the stench of vaporware all over it. Isn't it always about 75% complete? But I'll grant you, they have a lot more to show for their efforts than DF has provided.
I think its a bit early to tag Earthrise with this label, but I've never believed their delivery schedule from the moment it was announced. (way too aggressive)

Well tell you what, I'll wager a bet that the next newsletter will contain no information about when the Beta will be released. The wager will be an honored self-banned for two weeks here (no postings at this site for two-weeks).
I'm surprised that Masthead would make the effort to show up for E3. E3 is no longer what it used to be, it is more focused with console and arcade games, not PC's.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Masthead Studios will be participating in another Earthrise House of Commons chat Tuesday, June 10th at 4pm EST/ 9pm GMT/ 10pm CET on Stratics.com! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Please stop writing in green. I want to tear my eyes out when someone is wrriting fully in a colour other then white. Your e-peen and fame won't get bigger.
Anyway. As someone's said before the game is way to young to be called vaporware. Give it 2 years and then maybe.
Please stop writing in green. I want to tear my eyes out when someone is wrriting fully in a colour other then white. Your e-peen and fame won't get bigger.
Then file a feedback comment to the site or a report.
Let me guess, you never used a monochrome monitor before.

HAHA that is great. I am guessing you P1 phosphor being used. That would give your screen a green color. But cool none the less I remember using one when I was little.
Staying on topic here. I would suggest everyone who thinks this is vapourware to attend the house of commons chat on june 10th 4pm EST/ 9pm GMT/ 10pm CET. You people better ask some good questions I will not be there.
Also Dracus I argee with you that there will not be anything about beta on the june newsletter so I am not making that bet with you. :P
That would be good to see what the answers will be. I hope it will be a straight answer (as best possible, without giving secrets away of course) and not as spins.

this game just started to hit the spotlight this year ......... its VERY early to call it vaporware. This is the purest sandbox ive read about since SWG pre-cu and i am sceptical, but in no way would i call ANYTHING vaporware when i just started seeing it a few months ago. There is nothing to argue about, its still early to announce any sort of beta or any release date. I give it another year before they start giving out those dates.

Christ - This game is still in alpha and won't be released for at least 2 years. How the hell can you come here and cry vapourware. That sort of thread should be reserved for the Darkfall forums, as of yet, we are not deluded.
Although if I am still posting in these forums in 5 years time you have permission to flame Earthrise and call us all deluded fanbois.
There are no gameplay videos because there is no game-to-play its not even coded yet to a level where you can run around in a functional environment.
Go look up ALPHA TESTING then come back say sorry - LOL
It looks like the game began development in 2005. Most MMORPGS take at least 5 years to develop these days. So give them to at least 2010 before you start calling it vaporware.
To be fair, you've backed up the OP's doubts about it coming out in a year yourselves. The mistake the OP made was assuming that, because the early 2009 launch seems doubtful, it will never be be released.
Announcing "Hey, we have this game we think will be great, it's in early alpha" is a little different then "Hey, this game we've been working on for 7 years? It may go beta... eventually."
I don't think this game will be anything like it describes, and actually I have zero hopes for it, but I will watch.

because if you have been following mmo's for long enough, you can see a similar pattern with all these indy mmo's.

If you've been following MMOs long enough you'd know many of the major players that have made their mark on the genre almost all started in the genre as indies. Verant , Mythic, CCP, even Funcom in their strange, incomprehensible Norwegian way. Independent status alone will not determine success or failure. That alone depends on whether or not your managers/directors are complete twats or not. At least one of the directors on the ER project worked in the financial security software sector before going to work at Masthead, and while that doesn't foolproof things it does indicate a certain amount of professionalism in the ranks, unlike certain other hardcore PVP sandbox MMOs that may or may not be fantasy based and may or may not be stuck in a 7+ year development cycle.
The devs have recently stated they're still on schedule and that beta is expected to release this autumn. This means at the earliest we'll see it September 22, at the latest December 22.

Rubbish they have never said Q1 2009, the earliest projection was the very END of 2009 - 2010.

They might have not said Q1 of 2009. But they did project 2009 not the start or the end. I however have not heard them say 2010 yet.

I hope its not vaporware, but after what happened to Gods and Heroes, anything could happen.
Above all else... never ever piss off the penguin.
Fallen Earth just hit Alpha and they've had gameplay videos for a WHILE now
This is part 1 of a video interview with the lead developer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG1N2xeZxTU
it's almost 2 years old and they've since majorly updated the graphics. this video is what got me interested in the game, over a year ago and I've been following it ever since.
I don`t believe in Fallen Earth, it`s such a visual crap.
The game looks awful. Hopefully Earthrise will deliver something....
