heya,
Thanks a lot vmoped, That crafting podcast was awesome as hell, and it is only a preliminary view of the total system. I am really starting to believe Mythic when they say they are not releasing this game until it is great, and it is well on its way to being just that at this point in time.
Thanks for the info!
Cheers & thanks Vmoped for all your spare time you took on bringing those links, news and infos before May newsletter!
Edit: Oh and we finally have a chance to see Mark Jacobs (Lead Designer) speaking, hehehe... and yeah awesome podcast.
OMG Hellz Yeah! Now thats what I call an awesome crafting system!
Also I don't plan to play Order anytime soon, but that White Lion class is the first pet system that actually sounds like I could enjoy!
I am a little disappointed that they do not have armor or weapon crafting in the game (they could add it in the future) because those were the two professions I always took. However, the "new" craftign system does seem to be fresh and different enough to be entertaining. I hope that when a gathering profession is chosen you automatically get a pack for that gathering profession to store stuff, and also that your pots to mix ingredients will be a container seperate from you bags and will not waste gear inventory space. Very cool info!
Currently Playing: Nothing (waitinf for WAR)
Retired: AC2, EVE, DAoC, EQ, WoW
*gazes at the crow and shakes head* im pretty sure whatever is in the video is just a sneak peek / minor taste of the crafting system. They've never in all their podcasts given the whole shebang away in one go. Especially considering this is the first time ever they've released any detailed information besides a mini video a few months ago.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
The guy specifically said in the beginning of the video that this is what they have so far, and more could come or changes to all that! They wanted to get the crafting idea out there for their fan base to see what its about.
Mythic has also said on countless times that their game isn't going to be heavily gear based, so what u get from quests, scenarios, PQs, instances and city seiges will prolly be more than enough then you use the Talismon Making craft and upgrade the gear...maybe!
Purely awesome, a game i ll want to craft in, i can t wait.
Guys... crafting is almost exactly like WOW. I know I will be flamed because of this, but it's the naked truth. Big disappointment and a sad surprise... couldn't they make something better? God...
Uh...WoW crafting is Recipe / Grind based...they're nothing alike. In wow you buy a pattern and follow it...they've been pretty clear you don't do that you experiment to see what you get in WAR...thats a pretty huge difference...not to mention you don't GROW your own plans..you have ot go out and 'farm' areas and beat off players for plants.
You certaintly don't Brew potions in WoW either you plug n the farmed ingredients and go..there's no trial and error or possibilities of failure at all. Infact WoW you can't fail ever...well sometimes you can but its pretty rare.

LOL, so very true elvenangel.....I think the poster before you is just scared of change and actually having to think or be slightly challenged is too much so everything must be false!
Nice carrot... I am interested to see how the crafting develops over time and to see a demonstration of it in action.
It sounds promising.
Thanks for the info vmoped. And Altair probably wont be happy until he can bend the elements and create god weapons and armor from the blood and souls of thousands of slain foes, then laugh as his god-gear causes the servers to crash.
I think the crafting system will be good, just by seeing what I have so far...
--------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
i kind of understand why there is not weapon and armor crafting (yet?) Armor and weapon smiths takes years to train (i know i may sound like i am being to realist and how weapon and armor smithing are easier then making magical items) but think about this is WAR you are trained to fight not craft before the DEVs have also stated (was in a video early this year) about how you would only make things useful to the war effort. no you would ask "how weapons and armor are not useful in times of war" well lets think about it...in DAoC you got the best weapons and items from PVE and crafting...and then using enchanting (forget what it is called in DAoC, spell something... i think). In WAR you get the best gear from RVR and then use talismans but you just can't craft the weapons because it takes RVR to get them and they don't want to take that away just by crafting...They want their players to RVR so they want to give them as much incentives as possible and getting the best gear is just one of them. Sure i would like them to add a few more crafting skills but all and all i understand why they didn't put armor and weapon crafting in (yet?)
but so far its looking to be a great system... Mark Jacobs knows what he is doing so far and im glad to here about crafting
Nice to see a video of Mark Jacobs, he gets to the point and is determined to make this game FUN.
We definately need more MJ. Good video about crafting, it will definately be a revolutionary change.
STOP WHINING!
This system looks amazing for crafting. What I hope wont happen is a thottbot type website for combos.
Also the white lion looks great and i might just play it. I liked the idea of a hunter in wow but I would have rather fight side by side then at a distance. Something like Drizzt and the panter whos name I cant spell.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms
AMD 4800 2.4ghz-3GB RAM 533mhz-EVGA 9500GT 512mb-320gb HD
Lets see, you can have one gathering skill and one crafting skill max... where did I see this.. oh yes WOW, only they allow you to have two gathering or two crafting, so they were even ahead of WAR 4 years ago!
Then.. i can extract magic from items and get magical essence! My god this is brillilant! Yes like in WOW. But, really, what can be better than extracting magic from the items. I'm sure I can't think of a better way. Oh yes I can, if I spend a couple of days thinking about it, but hey, if WOW has it and it works, why should I???
But wait.. they don't have recepies, this is so great, you will get everything from the trainers. So it's a simplification of WOW system. This is so INNOVATIVE. These guys really earn they money, they are awsome thinkers!
Now it's very clear WAR = WOW2

Well I didn't say the idea of crafting and gathering was created by WOW. I also didn't say Blizzard thought up the idea of disenchanting, I said it is in WOW. They are doing something almost exactly as WOW. I knew they wanted to do the nex WOW but I thought they'd be more talented to create something innovative. So far we have BG with steroids and a simplified WOW crafting system. Great.

Yeah, and Diablo II is just Pacman on steroids.
Go away, pointless person.
Crafting in WAR is not even near to WoW.. Yes. tested it.. and surprise..it's really not.. It's completly different. You clearly didn't understand crafting from this video. But it's not fault of this video.. he explained crafting very well.. but some newbtards like you just can't understand it?.. what exactly? No, there is no recipies.. No, there are no crafting trainers... Crafting in WAR is all about experiments.. player-made "recipies" and just try to find better substance that anyone else.. Yes.. crafting in WAR is innovative. You don't see? Not my problem...but stop bitching about something what you have no idea.
Hehe, Mark Jacobs imitates Paul. Isnt he american?
I have a really good feeling about this game. For one thing that they posponed the game so its released after AoC, thats confidence.
Crafting key points:
1. No Grinding at a station! Awesome. I'm not going to sit in a town all day because my crafting travels with me.
2. Not recipe based. This means I'm not going to have to do X dungeon until Y boss drops my Z recipe so that I can finally learn how to make that axe no one will use. Instead I can play around with different ingredients and learn how to make the axe I want on my own.
3. No resource nodes! The gathering professions have me actually gathering or scavenging from the corpses of my slain foes! This means I'll be able to exp and RvR all while colelcting ingredients for my crafting. No more worrying about out leveling a particular area or having to go back and spend hours running circles around a zone finding ore deposits. I can do it all at once.
4. The system has a lot of customization. I can build my own talismans for example. If I want to make some talisman with int and str then I can. I get to mix all my ingredients in and see what comes out. I get to break down items and choose what I want. There's that element of surprise added to the system and even the chance for what I craft to turn out extra special.

I don't see how releasing a game 6 months after another MMO is a sign of confidence. Confidence would have been if they released around the same time imo
Crafting = seems to be a WIN for WAR!
Crafting system seems trivial compaired to a game such as Vanguard, but at the same time, I like the idea of not wasting equal amounts of time on crafting as I do on adventuring!
White Lion Class Annouced!
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG WOOT! This is going to be a very fun class indeed!
I am 100% for WAR!
