That's all I can really equate it to. I leveled a demonologist to 40 and feel it's all I could handle. The pet succubus has no power, less additional hp benefit. What happened to the original show of a potent backup from their movie demos of her?
The loot table to a " Boss" <.< , >.> must disappear so fast you don't see it drop....
So in fairness I roll a conqueror then a gaurdian ran em both to lvl 8 without equiping anything except a weapon for each of em. Kinda wierd how fast both of those got through the content to lvl 8 in a fraction of the time, my caster did. Is that what they call balance? Granted my caster was my main and I was on the learning curve with the game..but come on.
Then the news of a GM going overtly Soup Nazi on a guild on a pvp server.... you gotta be kidding
Breaking point... yep , and these guys build a glass house and start throwing stones.... Simply amazing....
Lol, this is quite a reversal... Weren't you the one habitually calling "troll" anyone posting anything negative about AoC? Man, you should have created a new account for this, just like everyone else. What were you thinking?
I still agree with the things i called people trolls for.
EA, the instancing. All of which are beneficial to the game. These issues are totally seperate. Theres a difference between being a troll and being negative. And if your trolling because of instancing still, then you obviously haven't played the game, because if it wasn't instanced, nobody would be out of tortage yet because we'd be a group of 1000 waiting for 5 minutes respawns.
Lol, that's a matter of conscious choice...
Hmm.. "should we make a large open world with lots of content and staring areas for starters (forgive my pun) so everyone can have a reasonable chance of finding their own place in a persistent open world... or should we just not bother with all that and make it really small and instanced... oh well, people will buy it for graphics and IP anyway."
While i agree it was a conscious choice, it was made long long ago, the time to change it to what people wanted it to be was long long ago(3 years probably) and that any complaining past that would be saying "we wanted it to be a different game" But i don't go to any other game and tell it that i want it to be something different before it releases. mmorpgs are not a exception to this.
"What about content past starter levels? Oh don't bother with that as well.. our cost-benefit analysis says we'll profit more if we leave the game empty later on and ride it out on box-sales from first impressions reviews based on our carefully sculpted starting area. Right on!"
I reserve my right to informed criticism and a bit of old-world cynicism.
The problem simply is, the game wasn't playtested nearly enough, the way the game plays it out, it -feels- like they -thought- it was enough for players.
All i see is someone new to this genre who thinks it's needed to make yet another post about the same old same old, simply look at < insert any MMORPG here> and we see the same type of posts over and over again, people just don't seem to learn and yes i seem not to learn to say this what i just said at <insert any MMORPG here>

I don't let devs bend me over and accept their failures as being "its okay! It'll be better." Guess what? The plague went away, but that didn't make that suck any less.
100% agree with the original poster. Our guild of 10 all quit today in a group effort. We'll be looking for something else in the future. I can't believe I had hopes for this .
This is why I am glad WAR postponed their release a bit to finish and polish a lot more than rush it like AoC did. Even though I was really looking forward to WAR and wanted to play right away, I don't want it to turn into an AoC release. I wonder how AoC would have been if they pushed back to August or September. Probably a hell of a lot better, lol. This just makes the choice for me easy on which I wanted to play, AoC, or WAR.
So many people came here and ripped into the beta testers when we offered our final opinions of our experiences in the beta and with the gameplay itself. The fact of the matter is this: Age of Conan was rushed out the door. Pretty much every single bug I have read about here and in other places have been in existence for months now. The queues with CS are because they are overloaded: Broken Quests, Broken Mobs, players getting stuck in the geometry, and more. Had they taken the time with polishing the game many of these frustrations could have been avoided. Itemization has never worked properly with Age of Conan. Yet, we were promised by Funcom that it would be addressed before launch and was in fact already addressed on internal builds. Other things promised were DirectX 10 and spellweaving. Apparently the latter is in once you hit level 50 lol, but directx 10 is still not functional and will not be for several months. I have said it before and I will say it again. There is really no one to blame except everyone that just believed that the testers had an axe to grind. Sure, wait and see how it pans out, continue paying to beta test a product that was rushed to market feature incomplete, buggy, and far less than what the developers had stated. As long as people continue to pay for crap then they will get crap.
all i know is that my conq hit 30 today and im not stoppin till i hit 80 and play some end-game..and then if i deem that AoC is not worthy i will toss it in with the crap list games in a big box in my closet.
they are fixin issues right now. what we have had three patches in about a week span fixing important points in the game.
i will admit i do get alot of times where i log out in a hail of furious cuss words but i tell myself its new give it a month or two. If i still feel the game lacks once i hit 80 and do border kingdom pvp etc.
then im out. gone....
but, i treat every mmo the same i give it a chance c how it goes...then flame it. If** i dont like it. Aoc in my terms is off to a real bad start. but im gonna stick around c how it goes.
and if rome falls then so be it what 2-3 months out of a life span.

The minute I heard about that Early Access fiasco, I knew this game would have bugs in quest and interface. when I heard the Direct X 10 feature (which was stated on the game box) was not actually implimented into the game. I knew that the game was released too soon.
I entered the game and have constantly fought a battler against the graphics settings. Trying to find a good setup that will make my ocmputer run at more than 15FPS. Sadly my ocmputer meets allt he requirements and yet it chugs along.
I saw videos of the obvious class imbalances from the open PvP weekend. So everything from there is as espected.
I knew customer support would be horrible, therefore I visisted the forums frequently to see what new feature I should avoid. I heard about Funcoms fiasco with Anarachy Online and was ready for the same poor response in this game.
Now I hear that the game turns into a grind fest after level 40? This is saddening because I really really enjoy questing in this game so far. I thought they would at least have all the quest done by now.
At least WAR was smart and held off along with blizzard. I think Funcom released early to avoid the competition and get more game sales from the people waiting for WAR. I really hope this game can last me 4 more months.
I was going to make a post about the same issuesthe OP brought . I agree completely with all he said. I'm just going to tough it out and wait for lvl 80 and see how that goes.
All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.

Funny thing is due to my experiance i don't listen to what devs say i play these games and jugde the game on what i see during play, i never play this genre towards what is promised, if i would it would make me indeed someone new to gaming. Actualy SOE has taught me not to listen to devs as it only gets people disappointed, and yes that is what you will learn due to experiance.

The instancing is a bad choice, the game is poorly made which is where these problems come from. Using WoW as an example they had 6 starting areas with larger numbers of mobs in each quest area and while yeah you banged heads somewhat on a new server it was nowhere near as bad as this is now. Heck half of the quests in the 40s for AoC make you wait on respawn even if you are the only person in the area. Poorly developed content is not a good reason to instance a game, it is just a copout.
I'm more shocked at the lack of disillusionment in the community considering how many times the industry has overpromised and underdelivered. I just hope that eventually we will take a wait and see attitude towards these "mega-titles" and not get duped by their marketing tactics designed to extract as many dollars as possible in the least amount of time, preferably before release. Maybe then the useless flame wars that go on for months before their release can be avoided and we can concentrate on being more discerning consumers and in so doing , hold the industry to a higher standard.

I've been playing games since i was 4 with the NES, you can quote atari and etc, and while i have played those, they weren't part of my generation, and i don't have to make excuses for my age(22) because i can't go back in time and force my parents to have sex 10 years earlier.
So you judge the game based on what the game offers? Then hrmmm why can i not do the same thing? Because your a fanboy of aoc perhaps? Everything i stated in my OP is true about the game. And they are issues. Putting your head into the sand and ignoring because your having fun only gets you so far.
I didn't listen to the devs, i didn't believe their promises, i'm judging the game based on the game, regardless of any other things.
Being a new release does not excuse the lack of content @ 80.
Being a new release does not excuse the lack of content while leveling.
Being a new release does not excuse untested features(gems for example)
I judge mmos based on their own merits. I don't care if mmo number 232 released with less content then aoc. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of aoc.
And to another poster, instancing isn't the issue here, it's the solution to the poorly designed world. It's really that simple, while you can say "instancing ruined the game" The truth is "instancing saved a ruined game". If your gonna bash because of instances, get your facts straight and bash the game based on it's world and content, and then praise how well the instancing keeps the game going and playable.
This is simple one of the worst games I have ever had the misfortune to try and play. Memory leaks galore, glitches galore, lag everywhere, and me on an 8meg broadband connection, with a dual core machine that could probably run the whole country, yet this game simply sucks. The graphics are good, but the game was extremely boring if I was able to get past the awful glitches. I wasted 60 quid on this pile of filth, can't get refund of course. I suppose I should have learnt if something has funcom behind it then its bound to end up utterr shite eventually. Nevermind, live and learn i suppose.

You make one post on here and you think we're going to go, "Yea...you're right!" Not! Go make a new, new name and try again...::probably one of the haters creating a bogus account - again::

I agree 100%. I was in beta and whats mentioned on these forums has been mentioned for months on the beta forums. I will salute Funcom. I left beta just when the Fileplanet open beta started and it seems FC managed to pull out the last minute miracle patch, because when I left beta it was much , much worse than release.
Seems to me some of the complaints are people who blitzed to 80 and then started whining that they are bored. This isn't a problem in AoC, this powergaming happens in every MMO. Remember the gnome that hit 70 only 28 hours after TBC went live? He didn't have the slew of daily quests to do then that is ingame now, so I bet get got bored quickly and probably switched to another toon to play. If someone hits the cap not even a week after a game is released, my sympathy for your "boredom" is practically nil. You went so fast you missed out on a lot of content. I've always believe that in an MMO most of the fun is the journey to level cap not hitting the cap.
Also the game is more than "blood , tits and ass" like someone posted earlier. My cimmerian barbarian once he left Tortage has pretty much received zero T&A content. Blood? Yep that's there but then I am going for +fatality % gear with him too. If anyone read the Conan books, blood and sex were prevalent themes in all the stories. Conan got more ladies than James Bond and Michael Knight put together.
I find it odd people are complaining about instancing. AoC is not anywhere near instance heavy as Guild Wars. Tortage had instances for the Night quests, but I haven't encountered that many once I left Tortage. I think AoC is about on par with EQ2 for the amount of instances. I think it's a good balance, but maybe some people want more/less of it?
I'm happy with the game so far. I am being realistic about some things, lack of voice post-Tortage as example. To me, it's living up to the hype and is worth the money I paid for the CE.

!) There should be content at level 80.
2) Nobody plays EQ2 or Guild Wars.

I agree with you 100 % they should have known that when they ran out of quests and content in the 40's that there wasnt going to be much at do at 80. Man powerlevelers sure are dumb

Yeah, it sure is a terrible thing when people expect a game they buy to be done. I mean I know when I bought GTA4 I was like I sure hope it stops after the first island and makes me wait 3 months before they open the second, and another 2 or 3 for the 3rd. If someone loves leveling that is what they are going to do, and what makes it dumb for someone to expect that a company puts something in at the end that is challenging to accomplish?
I believe the last word of your post fits you rather well.

I believe the last word of your post fits you rather well.
