I completely agree, bad to see you go but I am in the same situation. I have tried on multiple occasions on this forum to state truth's, but trollers and fanboys seem to not care and give out false information/lies. Lately, since AoC has come out I have been to busy playing the game to really care, but every once in a while I do come back to see the same BS so I have given up on posting for the most part.
P.S. Two posts above this one is a good example of this BS.
You know what really bothers me about AoC? Have you guys tried contacting Funcom? Let's just say.. I hope you can speak Norwegian. I don't want to email and get a generic response, I want a person that I can talk to and get actual support from. Funcoms is nonexistant.

Just because somebody posts something, doesn't mean that readers agree. And very seldom are people persuaded.
I think you should give readers a little more credit than that. Readers can read, see the same point over and over... it's still just the same point. And they read the counter points too. So get in there and make your point.
I would opt for a community that practiced free speech over some sanitizedmoderator policed forum any day. I can easily ignore morons.... just skip it and go on. I understand what you feel since it is getting on my nerves as well .. however I found the "Block" button pretty convenient. I never used it since I usually dont get bothered too much by ignorant posts but the last two days made me change my behaviour.
I agree with you on many points. MMORPG is like a cesspool of trolls and propaganda artists. I still don't think that you should leave though. Even though you have probably run into your share of crap from the employee's of different companies, developers of different games, and general lemmings of negativity that permeate this forum, I'll bet that you have also helped let those of us smart enough not to just believe everything we read be able to make an informed decision about whether or not to try some games.
That's important, especially here.
So, in the name of the forum we are currently posting in, to hell with the critics, nothing that they can possibly say to keep someone from trying out what they want to play is going to work anyway. In my experience, people who have to come to sites like this to make a decision whether they are going to play a game or not are most likely the same lemmings that will come back to post negative stuff about the game anyway. Most people just come to see the circus. To find out if there is anything they should know and/or to compare notes about things they already know to others who already know them too.
As far as AOC goes, my notes go like this.
1. They were incredibly egotistical in beta. This, not the beta testers, is the reason that every bug they have run into upon release is applauded. They jerked around their tech testers pretty badly, had them show up for testing as though it was a real job and then forced them to go back and stand in line among the unwashed in order to enter open beta. They then, only after most of the tech testers went out and paid for open beta, allowed them to participate in general beta where they were still expected to test the game.
AOC was a 30 gig download. Each time a tester had to change their account status, unless they had 60 to 90 gigs of hard drive space just laying around empty, they were forced to go through the download process again which, when it came to general or tech beta was extremely slow. In this situation they shouldn't have been surprised at the negative feedback that jerking these people around was going to inspire. They knew that they had a good game though and so they used this in their favor. Nothing that we can do about it now except to pay or not pay. I'm paying because it is a good game. I still, however, harbor my resentments and will probably not beta test another game made by these same folks.
2. AOC kicks ass. There is plenty of content, plenty of action, and I have not stopped playing it since release. I play on a PVP server and so I am sorry, I will not divulge any spoilers. You want to get hard like me then you get smart like me. I will say though that the opportunity is there, just like it has been in so many games before where people swear that it is not.
3. The game is not as buggy as the processes set up outside of it. Account setups, customer service, all the things that have to do with dealing with those people can only be called one step above primitive. I have, however, experienced very few bugs since release but I think that this is in part because I have not been trying to hack at the game. I had a friend that complained on day one. His graphics were all messed up and it couldn't be his fault because he had an 8800 gtx video card. As soon as I convinced him to get his head out of his own ass and update his drivers, his problems were solved and I have not heard a word out of him since.
There are still some graphical bugs that need to be sorted out, but nothing that is so detrimental to gameplay that it ranks as an A or even B class bug.
4. The inteface rocks. I can solve everyones problem with one single command. "Shift - L" locks those pesky icons to the hotbar. After that I was happier than a pig in shite.
5. I run a hyperthreaded 3gig intel with 3 gigs of ram and a 8500 GT. It runs fine in groups, solo, and pvp. I run on low settings but really can't see the difference between that and normal other than the clip plaining. Again, to all of you superusers who think that just because you paid an arm and a leg to brag about your rigs that it gives you the right to call any game that you can't run all out a lemon, get yer heads out of your asses and realize that these guys aren't programming for you, they are programming for you tomorrow and you are part of that problem not part of that solution.
I see all of the blood, all of the gore, the nipples are intact, and my green and blue gear looks pimp. I even set up a version to run on my girls machine that is the same as mine only with a gig less of ram and a 256meg hyper memory card in it and it looks just the same. Her's runs it a little bit choppier but still not at all unplayable. This is the first time in the last three MMO's that I have played where I can say that we will not have to upgrade to play it. Thank god for Vanguard after all huh? At least it turned out ot be good for something.
In summary I think that AOC is a winner. It is something new in a market full of clones of the last thing. And although I don't care much for the decision makers that are in charge of public relations, I still give it a thumbs up for anyone experienced enough and smart enough to know how to do more than zerg and bitch. The gameplay is linear only long enough to teach the stupid how to focus, after that it opens up like any good MMO should. The secrets are there and properly buried so that not just any idiot can get on the game and powerlevel into greatness (although this hasn't stopped a slew of them from trying).
If you play the game right you will always be better than the next guy no matter which class you play. That is as it should be and I pray that they do not change it.
Finally, to the op, if you can't handle the hatespeak on this site, just do what I do and wait for someone to say something reasonable before you post. In cases where you have something to say, just say it, damn communication beyond the point of what you have to say hehehehe. Someone will read it and appreciate you for you effort. And if they don't? To hell with them too!

I have to say im proud to see someone post about all the crap we have been seeing on here. I can't even go to the homepage and scroll down to check a few news items and i see someone bad mouthing AoC. Still sad to see you leave cause of a few bad mouthing people. Every game has its problems at the start. I still can't wait to play AoC once i get a better pc. Still hope you do try and stay around these kids are just idiots.
The problem i have is with FC and othetr dev companies, not the people who actually play the game. As a CB tester i and many others warned the majority that the game was riddled with problems.
These dev companies think that they can get away with releasing a halfassed product and then let the paying customer finish their development. This is a big no-no in my book and has been going on for way to long, insert SOE products.
The mmo genre as it stands now is a full on shame. Thnaks to the overwhelming success of WOW, other dev companies have become stuck in the same pattern of making a class/loot./lvl based snorefest.
The problems that are afflicting AOC's players that are in the mid range lvl's is happening because dev companies and for the most part the mmo community is accepting and to a certain degree wanting spoonfed dev content, instead of open worlds were players can make their own content and actually have to interact with other online players.
To the op. Your post is your opinion, as well as this one is mine. To sit back and tell other people who pay to play these game with their hard earned money, to not point out problems with mmo's is purely being blind and doing more harm than good.
I know you are trying to tell the truth, but you get anger in return. Thats their problem, to accept or to reject the facts.
For those who are thinking so low of AoC, may I ask you something, which game are you waiting for? Warhammer, which is so many monthes away still? WoW? ok you can play it, noone is forcing anyone to play any other game. I personally am bored from WoW, so I didnt want to wait several monthes more until Warhammer comes, and nwo I play AoC. Others didnt like AoC, so they cancelled their accounts and stopped playing (Great thing to do if you have 30 days of free play) BUT
But we have the freedom to choose. We can choose whatever we want. YES, funcome lied in advertisements. There is no directx10. Game becomes grinding after level 54. There are few dungeons wihch work at all. There are bugs everwhere. The game is censored by putting clothes on npc girls and removing sexy emotes so its nto a mature game but teen game now. And the list goes on.
However which game didnt undergo such a stage? I remember my preorder WoW account could only be activated 1 week after start, and Blizzard didnt even care (And WoW was full of bugs at that time as well). So what ? in so many years WoW became the top of the mountain, at least in the area to fill their designers pockets.
So what do you suggest? Shall I stop playing AoC and sit at home watching TV after a tiring work day?
There are so many games, Anyone has the freedom to choose anything he wants. And all advertisements lie, no game gives what it offers.
I have fun with my Priest of Mitra in this game, so much fun. There are soo many bugs, true. Half my feats are bugged, the others are wrong or weak. I still love to play it. This game had the greatest idea a all years healer can dream about. You heal with your damage. Incredible. Superb Fantastic. or maybe not because even that feature is bugged. Who cares? I am having fun.
Dont lie, tell the truth, and dont be afraid to tell.

I couldn't agree with you more musicmann. I was also a long time CB tester and the testing community made several comments to no avail about the release of the game. The MMO genre is in a constant decline and there is nothing worth playing anymore....

I agree -- The OP seems to be a very mature and intelligent person, I hate to see him go and many others who probably dont even bother to post before they leave this community. If the forums (for any game) are flooted with lies and hateposts this place is going to hell.
You would leave a message board just because people disagree with your assessment of AoC? Boo-frickin'-hoo. If you'd leave over something so trivial - goodbye.
Ah man, sorry to see you go. I've seen your posts, they are pretty level-headed compared to all the other crazy fanboi-troll warfare going around. What's making it difficult now is that before launch there were mostly trolls who had no basis for their reasoning. But now that the game's out and people are hitting 40+, they're starting to see some serious flaws. Now when those people come here to share them, they get labeled as trolls because of the real trolls of pre-launch.
Interesting what you said about beta...yes, it's true that alot of people want a free trial, but honestly if you're going to use that logic...why try to get a free trial for something thats in its crappiest stages? You might as well help to improve it any way you can. I really hope it doesnt happen to WAR, Aion, ect., but there's the possibility. Also, even if the testers report stuff, it's the company's job to make sure those things are fixed.
Anyways, hope you have fun doing whatever you're planning next. I'm assuming you do enjoy AoC so have fun in there.

The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Wait til you hit the 50's before making an assesment of the content, OP. Especially once you have to grind from 55 to 60ish. As for exploring.. what exploring? its a linear set path in tiny zones.. theres nothing to explore.
The story is not rich nor deep, its in fact a bit cheesy. To sum it up, you are an escaped slave marked by an evil sorcerer, and you have to remove the mark by finding the couple of pieces of some talisman which happens to be an ancient god that will remove your mark, and make you a super hero to go fight that evil sorcerer. Blah. Same old storyline, basically. The tortage part of it is pretty direct.. after you leave tortage you get a piece of the story at every dozen levels or so.. 30, 40 and 60 i think, or something like that, and its not much story, its go to x cave, kill the boss, and voila.. all very simple and easy. The rest of the quests are all the typical "oh go kill x to get y to save z" quest stories.. like in every other mmo out there. Zzzz.
This game is about the combat, and thats about it. No world, no crafting/tradeskills of any value, your player cities are instanced copies of each other, with the buildings locked in set locations. Zzz. Nothing but killing mobs or play acting rp situations is available to do.

Just my 2 cent.
Can someone be mature and intelligent and play AoC? A game full of violence and gore? A game that has brought MMOS to a new low? Well, maybe yes, but I'm sure they are not the norm.
The OP had little in the way of counter arguments for how he/she felt about the game.
The OP said he was level 38 and had a lot of content. Yet fails to read other posts of people being 50+ saying that there is very little content and that the instances require more of brute strength and stunning than the classic heal/tank type. Some may say this is a good thing, but how does this look for a game that was bent on being a PvE game that revolves around "Phat Lootz". Also how little the innovation has gone into the games design aside from combat.
The OP just has taken a beating on a game he/she really enjoys. This game is a total failure if you look at what was to be expected. If you got a salesperson to sell you a car on broken promises then guess what? You will get your money back and be able to sue this salesperson for false advertisement.
The only problem here is FC is not located in the US? (not sure if im right) So to be able to attack them with a law suit would seem to be a lot harder because of not having the same laws. (dont know if this is true or not if not and the laws for advertisment are similar or FC has a location in the US then they could be sued)
There is no problem if the game is fun or not. Its the broken and empty promises that has been spewed out by FC. Along with in game problems that have been coming up. Such as GM's making their own rules in servers.
People getting banned for unknowingly exploiting or even for being 100% innocent. This game has a lot to debate about. Its good to see someone like the OP go if they are unable to handle these kinds of debates and issues with a game.
No one has insulted your mom, killed your cat or destroyed your car. Stop taking things so damn personal.

Not really much we can do about all of them. We just have to constantly filter out all of their crap.
Sorry to see you go.
Im happy for you, that you like the game, etc.
But personally, i feel ripped off for paying for a beta..
i would still be playing/paying if the game wasnt on the wrong side of 50% completed
it should never have been released...
ive talked to so many people (from beta) and read so many posts that say the exact same things
that I PERSONALLY hitched on, when playing this game... that theres no room for doubt
the state of the game is appalling to say the least, and i can only tolerate so much
ive read over and over again how MMOs today "arent supposed to be" or arent expected to be complete
well, guess what? i dont really care much about the missing content... its all the other stuff added together
it did entertain me the first 20 or so levels.. so i guess i had my entertainment
but no reason for me to pay for something i dont like, and thats just the way so many others also feel
as for the reason for these topics.. its because of funcom
1. they elevated the game into the skies with PR and all that money making jazz
2. they put up servers, and just let it roll... quite the money making regime
3. no support, no presence.. too much silence
4. a) they hid the fact that the game had less than 50% content
b) classes, feats and skills broken
c) not nearly as many items as on the box (not even close)
d) <all the broken features added together goes here>
we both know this can be fixed, but i dont want to pay anymore than i need to
if WARhammer online lives up to the hype, i will find what i look for right there
nice post though.. dont let the funcom forums get to you, people like me all over in there

Sorry for the vulgar language, playing that game all week has gotten me back in touch with the manimal inside :P

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"

If the forums (for any game) are flooted with lies and hateposts this place is going to hell.Just my 2 cent.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat.
