Well we all know it. I know it. TR well....sucks, right now anyways imo. Do you folks think the devs have the stuff to make this game into what it was destined to be?

I am having fun playing the game now
A decent portion of MMO'ers want to play a game like TR. It's fresh, it's new. It's not iconic fantasy. But folks not currently playing, don't want to shell out an extra $15 to play casually. There's just not enough in TR to play "hardcore" for month on end... without getting jaded. So the WoW pricetag doesn't really work, in my opinion. I hope TR survives. I like Richard Garriott's ideas, and want to see the vision of TR doing well.
It will go the way of Auto Assault another NCSOFT title. Though I hate NCSOFT because most of their games suck I hope AION breaks the mold/tradition. TR is not going to survive though because it lost it's chance to gain a large group of hardcore players at launch.
IMO, the game engine itself is not bad at all. So Destination may consider to purchase OSI back from EA and to reproduce UO3.
I personally really enjoy the game. I think it will survive I admit I don't play it as hard core as I did just after launch but I like too many games lol
I personally think the game is fun as a casual game which is what some of us only have time for. I agree that the monthly price is a bit much. I also feel that the game would be much better if the community grouped more. Perhaps its the server im on (cassiopia) but I find that finding a group is no easy task as most ppl seem to enjoy soloing. Yet I still have a good time jumping on and giving aliens the what for. So to answer the question I think TR will be around awhile.
I played the game a few times in the past, as was a beta-tester..
As the game stands right now, what sucks so much about it? Can someone just list the MAJOR points of why it's so bad?
I might try the measily 3-day trial, but I wanted to play the "strongest" solo character, and I don't know what that is now. I keep reading about nerfs and so on...
I think it will go the way of Auto Assault. To me it has the same problem as Auto Assault did. It's a sorta fun game that would be fun to log into occasionally but is not worth the monthly fee. If it was around 5 bucks a month I might subscribe to it but I would never get $15 worth of play a month out of it. I can't see NCSoft continuing to throw more cash at that money pit.
I truly wish NCSoft would give us an all-in-one option for subscribing to their games. They have a good list of what seems to be niche games that would really benefit from an all-in-one subscription.
I know I loved Auto Assault as a change of pace from elves and dwarves, as I love COH/COV for the same reason and now Tabula Rasa again for the same reason. When you need a break from high fantasy, NCSoft does a good job... it's a shame they don't lower the monthly sub fee or combine em though... I would love a couple months in Auto Assault again.
As for what is truly wrong with Tabula Rasa? I have not found anything inherently wrong with the game. I have a Grenadier and a Sniper which are from different sides of the initial recruit tree and both classes seem well balanced. The animations are solid and bug-free (I can't say the same for a lot of other games currently on the market). I think people wanted a sci-fi WoW clone which is not what TR is. Those badmouthing the game have obviously never found themselves solo either defending a base or attacking one that was held by the Bane. It still gets my adrenaline pumping when I am put into one of those situations which is why TR is the best at what it's supposed to do... be fast-paced and get your heart pumping.

It really depends on what's important to you personally in a game.
The problem is, that the game lacks a lot, for a wide variety of player-types.
For me, there's a huge lack of progression. It's got fun combat and ideas, but after that, it's a single player game w/ some multiplayer aspects. There's no depth. Every class is the same and functions the same. Characters are to linier. The absolute void of sandbox makes it tough to stick with it.
I haven't lvl'd to 50, and honestly, I'm not interested in it. Each class has about 3-4 relevant abilities. After that, the others feel like fillers. Just max out the essential abilities and that's the bulk of your character. Which can be done by lvl 35. Then, it's an XP grind and not all that fun.
This game is not worth playing in my opinion. I dont like the mechanics pure and simple. If anyone is at the end game can you tell me if it was worth it.
what end game?
there isn't one
Take out the lvl references and that description right there just about applies to every game I've played in a heck of a looooong time.

You make it sound like Richard Garriott is doing you a disservice by following in the footsteps of his father. I say "Way to go RG" for pursuing a lifelong dream - that certainly surpasses any kind of benefit he could receive from being anchored down by a dying game. It's not even a Russian space program, more like an American tourism company utilizing Russian spacecraft and facilities - but that's beside the point. My prediction: TR will die a slow death and will be largely unappreciated, the talk about it largely being a "casual gamer's" game is definitely true. RG is just like anyone else out there - he wouldn't mind plastering his name over things (like Sid Meier) so he can get the credit for possible success. Just my two cents.
I played TR in beta and for a while after. I got a spy to 50, an exobiologist to 40, and a bunch of other characters to various levels. I had fun in the game. But it is missing something. I agree with jpizzle's lack of progression point. Basically there are only 4 levels for a character and maybe 6 skill sets per level. Many of those skills sets just increase in power as you level them. Not really any variety. Plus for some reason many of the skills were useless and they never got fixed. The exobiologist class was (is) just a higher level medic. Clone was the only useful exobiologist skill it had. And there were no pet controls. So your clone just followed you around and did what it felt like.
So, I don't really think it will survive.
Will TR pull through? No way in hell.

Seriously, WTF? They lose high level players by the horde, still lack even a single repeatable thing to do at level 50, and post 50 content makes second to the last? And the "new user" crap makes #1? WTF?
This list just amazes me. I can't believe they're this oblivious.
Well they are planning to release in Japan soon - so I guess thats why new user experience is #1.
Richard needs to personally axe TR and apologise. He could say: "Hey I wanted somthing different, it just didn't gel like I thought it should, so we're closing TR down."
Then he needs to take his eccentric ass into space come back and start working on the spiritual sucsessor to UO.
I doubt it. They are pulling it off all the Walmart shelves.

The comunity is good the Devs are good, it's looking good to me.
I just got into TR recently and so fmpov I'm good to go.
played this game for about 5 months at launch and thought it had a lot of potential to be a great game only problem is the lack of content and how repetetive it gets. Ive been trying to keep an eye on it to see how the updates are going but they havent seemed to add much of the content they said they would and I dont think this game is gonna make it if they dont add a lot of content soon
I really agree with this. TR is very comparable to City of Heroes imho (extremely fun, fast-paced combat, somewhat shallow game), but the difference with City of Heroes is that it's got just about the best LFG system of any game - it's sooo easy to form PUGs.
And PUGs, when you find them in TR, are GREAT! It's a very fun combat system, and a very fun combat system to team with.
But for some reason i think the devs were hung up on guilds being the way to group, and have been lagging behind in implementing some way of making PUGs easy to form. I think this is a terrible mistake because, like CoH, PUGs is where TR really shines.
I wish it well anyway, and will probably resub at some point to see how it's doing.
