New Proffesions

I played SWG before the new proffesions came out. I hope to get back in it. And i was wondering have the new proffesions made a population of just jedis. Or do people still play the other proffesions.

The other professions do get played, but far and away most of the players you'll encounter are Jedi.  BH is probably the second most popular profession.

At the other end I'd say officer is probably the least played, probably because its strengths are most appropriate for groups, and the game is pretty solo oriented right now.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Thats what i thought. Its cool to start off wtih being able to choose your proffesion. But the idea that the jedi was a very rare race to come across gave the game a very cool background. That definitley changed the story behind star wars.

There are actually a lot of ranged people I would say its 50/50 (50% jedi) which is pretty high for jedi but meh.  I play a bounty hunter and I have some crafters cause I get tired of shooting stuff.   I tried jedi and hated it..

Yes, Jedi has the highest % playing it, however as you can see from the GCW stats (which only shows those that PvP, so it's not a complete look at the picture but still gives an idea of things), more people don't play Jedi ;)

    1233 Bounty Hunter (13.98%), 1189 Commando (13.48%), 82 Entertainer (0.92%), 3138 Jedi (35.58%), 1374 Medic (15.57%), 767 Officer (8.69%), 428 Smuggler (4.85%), 499 Spy (5.65%), 109 Trader (1.23%),

You can see the stats here, http://swg.activeframe.de/bb-std/tp-en/main.11.html

Keep in mind that the active PvP community is but a fraction of the overall player base.

    A small fraction.

Just finished my 40 day vet trial, and what can I say... my BIGGEST annoyance with SWG by far is the fact that everyone and their dog (beast?) is a flipping Jedi. I even respec'd to Jedi just to see what the fuss was all about (totally avoided it Pre-CU).

This game has become an MMO version of 'Jedi Power Battles' (old PS1 game that sucked IMO).

If you like being Jedi, and being surrounded by Jedi (and don't mind huge tears in the fabric of continuity) then you won't mind it so much. I for one, as a huge SW fan, found it sickening.

And to think that if every pre-cu fanboi's wet dream comes true with the Bioware/LEC game you will all be Jedi.

Perhaps, but Bioware's worst effort would be 1 Million times better than SOE's best effort.  I'll bet on Bioware to produce a good game over SOE any day of the week.

You keep on paying a premium monthly rate for a game still in Beta bud.

It's interesting that the heroic instances seem to have been specifically designed so that a group of all Jedi will get wiped if they try them.

The instances demand that there is a variety of professions in the group, although some of instances deliberately ignore the abilities of some professions.  I'm thinking the unsnarable/unmezzable NPCs of the Exar Kun instance, which means that smugglers need not apply.  Futhermore, the prolonged combat that ensues against the gold elites means that a spy gets one chance to use their best attacks and then they are reduced to pathetic Jedi with inferior DPS without the ability to tank.

I pretty much deliberately opted out of some instance groups or offered to, because having another light Jedi along was pointless.  Having one or two to tank is one thing, but beyond that, you're taking up a group slot that could be more profitably filled by a commando or bounty hunter for DPS, or a medic for healing, or an officer for group buffs.

So you all want to be a:

"moisture farmer of the old republic"

    "dancer of the old republic"

With due respect if the Bioware/LEC game is a MMO based on KOTOR do you really think they are making a game where players will not be a Jedi or Sith?

At least it would co-incide with the timeline.

What new professions? Oh you mean when they took 32 killed more than half then regurgitate 9?

If the new SW MMO is set in a timeline where there are thousands of Jedi running around, I'll have no problem with it at all. I might even give it a go. I'll even go as far as saying it's likely that BioWare will actually give us a reason to ACT like Jedi and not a bunch of RedBulled up Uber kids yelling 'Duel me Noob!' as in the current game.

Would I prefer the 'Uncle Owen Experience'? Hells yeah.

The biggest problem with pre-cu was that SOE and LA started to sell the game on being able to become a jedi, which totally killed the timeline aspect of the game. Yes, i had a pre-cu jedi and honestly i had more fun on a social lvl with my open toon slot than my jedi.

The long and lonely journey to become jedi for me was more of a personal reward than anything else. Now if a new SW mmo from Bioware is being made and it's in the KOTOR timeline, i have no problem what so ever with jedi/sith running around.

There will be Jedi and Sith, Dark Jedi and other professions as well.  If you have played KOTOR you would know that there are a number of professions that are in those games already.

Taking all of one profession into any instance is a setup for failure, it's not a discrimination against Jedi ;)  Also, there's a number of NPC's in the Exar Kun instance that can be snared/rooted - snaring/rooting them is a common tactic my group uses on them.

The executioner cannot be snared or mezzed, and he's probably the most important target at that point in the instance...more important than the boss, I dare say, because if you let him get to his goal, it's a guaranteed wipe.

Just a quick observation. Everyone always states how any Star Wars game has to have jedi.

I do not agree. When I was a kid, most of my friends wanted to be Han Solo over the farm boy.

When the second movie came out --- they thought Fett was cooler than Vader.

When the third movie came out --- well all we really did was complain about the Ewoks.

I think SWG would have been a fine game with Jedi just as npcs. I realize that by having "playable jedi" in a game you may get a surge of players, but really a well designed Star Wars game would not need jedi to be successful.

My first Star Wars PC game ever were X-wing and then Tie-Fighter. No jedi required. I am getting old. I am pretty sure my first FPS on a PC was a Star Wars game where I was not a jedi either.

In SWG, I some people play jedi because they like the class. I think most play it because they know that profession will always get the most attention and be, at the least, marginally better than the other professions.

    Ah well.

No, you can't snare/root him but if your group is working together and ALL switch their target to him, he will die long before he gets anywhere near his target.  Everything else during that phase can all be snared/rooted.

You do have a few chances of missing the Executioner though - if he gets through once it doesn't have to be a fail.
