Geez, stop whining.
After seeing a lot of people just b*t*h about this game, I thought I'd throw my own 2 cents to give a more balanced point of view. Personally, I found this game to be quite entertaining. I was entranced by the game for upwards to 8 hours today, and that rarely happens with any game. The graphics are excellent, and I love the AI of the creatures and mobs. This game, in my opinion, is not cookie cutter at all. If you really analyse the leveling system, you'll understand that although in theory a person could be the master of everything, it will be very hard if not impossible. This is because the experience in a fight or event is given porportional to the amount of skills used to obtain a victory over the event. So that means just healing once or twice won't give your character nearly enough experience to keep up with his fighting level. I don't believe any MMORPG has used this system before (or at least of most mainstream ones don't). I think this is very realistic as if we were to take a real person, he would not be limited by "what class" he chose as a baby. A person should be free to do whatever he wants, and if that means mingling in various trades, then so be it, if he has the time to invest. So ya, good game so far, I'll update later as I play more and get a better feel for this game.

If they plan to sell keys online (like EVE, Lineage, Lineage 2, AO, ...) I will certainly fall for it on a boredome day, like I fell for those before. But I certainly won't buy it if I need to get to a store buy some useless boxed CD. I would like to try CoH one month, but I won't do it until they sell it online.
When will they learn...

It's far more instructive when you say this game is crap - and IMO ...is not ! -.
Some bugs annoy me , if they fix them before release i will buy it, if not i will wait for a month to look at the evolutions.
Sorry, meant to post this as a reply, but I pressed new post instead. <shrug> Anyways, to answer your question Neas, I am 70% sure that I'm going to buy this game right now. That number might change depending on how fun the mainland is, and how bugs/glitches they can hammer out before its release.

You see when i was saying this game was good i only had a 50% chance of buying it. Not its more like 10%.
The important thing in all these threads is, are people going to purhcase it. That is the one true main thing. They can say its good in their own way but if they personally arent gonna buy it then their point is meaningless.

In my opinion this game is lacking. It just doesnt have anything that jumps out and makes it unique. The leveling system while good in theory doesnt really work. It allows for people to do and be everything wich pretty much makes grouping a nightmare.
In order to have a multiplayer game work it has to be centered around groups not individuals. People need defined roles within a group setting. We have always been critical of games like EQ and DAOC for making people choose one particular job. Now however we are seeing the wisdom in that decision as these new games are spawning hordes of solo gamers who dont group because they dont need anybody else. SOR especially since to balance it out they make you endure long drawn out (boring) fights with overpowered mobs or try to overwhelm you with large numbers of them to force you to team up.
There isnt anyone I know who woyuldnt say tha games like SWG were better in the begginning than now. A game that was once had a place for everyone in the group now has become an uber buffed and over armored solo-fest that makes the multiplayer aspect of the game pointless.
I fear that Saga of ryzom will be heading down the same path and will likely suffer the same fate as the other games like it. It may not fail completely but it will never do as well as games like EQ2 and WOW not because they are more well known but because everyone will have a job in those games and will feel necessary.
Also I wil not be buying Saga Of Ryzom. (wich I am currently beta testing)

This game IS fun to play, and has lots of potential.
It's a 200% buy for me, i trust this game, i trust its community, i trust its future, way more than the upcoming blockbusters...
If you like this game, you're a moron and need to stop playing video games. This is all an MMORPG SHOULDN'T be. You couldn't PAY ME to play this game. It's awful.
Don't even try it. The interface is cluttered, the movement is bullshit. The ideas are unoriginal. The graphics are terrible. The races are idiotic. The player models are pathetic. The game itself sucks.

BTW characters are not slower in Ryzom than they are in DAoC ( basic speed ... not a bard or skald... ).
I'd classify Ryzom as a placeholder MMO, keeping the seat warm for WoW, EQ2, GW hehe.

Trying ot enjoy the beta now but. All I can say, this game adds nothing to the genre, nothing at all, and will quickly fall into oblivion.
My thought has been for the last days.. If someone have the dedication to work on a game for several years, with the will to continue to work with it several years after it is finished, a fulltime job for 6-10 years.. Should you not have had at least ONE original idea somewhere in there to start with? Would that not have felt better? Would it not have felt like there was a reason you spent all this time. To put down 6-10 years of your professional career on a so so copy of the competition... I dunno. Makes me kinda sad to think about it.

well it does have raids, 255 monsters attacking a city?
As to add to this, i got in the WoW Stress test and now i see that i was right
. I feel much more rewarded lvling in WoW than i do in Ryzom... Its weird cause in WoW ive only lvl 12 lvls but ive gained a quite a few skills and they are all quick cool, not just damage spells. I.e
1. Arrow that damages enemy then slows it
2. Magic damage arrow
3. Adds extra damage to melee attack
4. mark the enemy, so its defence is lowered and enemy can see which mob is targetted
5. Posion arrow
6. Tame a pet
7. Feed Pet
8. Mark of the falcon. Increases ranged skill
9. Mark of Monkey. Increases dodge.
See in my 12 lvls in WoW i feel like i gained more than in about 50 lvls in ryzom. TBH the lvls in WoW are Slower than in ryzom, but it feels like you are getting somewhere with WoW whereas i didnt, i just felt like i was running up an impossible hill. Perpetually grinding in Ryzom.
I must say I was right in leaving Ryzom behind (not because ryzom is bad or anything), but because for me it was the right choice. Im A WoW person

to be truthful i don't think this game will be a success, reading through their forums seeing the complaints and the "do not release" just nails it away for someone who visits the site. I've been beta testing this game for awhile to and it doesnt impress me much as oppose to Wish. Also i'm very used to the quick combat of city of heroes and the amazing travel system that it sets a new standard for me to get a mmorpg.
It's good to see some complaints well constructed out because it's good to be blunt and people only want the best for a mmorpg not a dublicate of previous games.

I ve been playing AO for years... with more than 50 char on screen the game fall down to an unplayable framerate (the 3D engine is way too old and crapy ). You cannot compare with Ryzom, GM in Ryzom can generate mobs invasion where they want, when they want and it s still payable. AO has now an Alien Invasion expansion with invasions but it s limited to the player cities and cannot be controlled by GM as in Ryzom.
And BTW the AI extension has just been released...
Have you tried to look a bit at the action customization in the game ? What other MMO give you that? you can mix spell, regen, change the casting distance, the sap it needs, the casting time, you can adapt every action to the way you want. At level 1 a mage can make 3 differents spell with just one, just to optimize ...
if you prefer the DAoC way aka the brainless way ( i m level 5 i have this spell now, i am level 10 i have this spell now etc etc.. ) ... in Ryzom i level up the way I want, and i think it s really new and fresh.
Moreover i would like to say the universe seems to be alive, everything move, many litlle animations. Mobs are everywhere, herds of mobs, with herbivore, carnivorous, no spots with 5 or 6 mobs in a certain place, for me it is something new, it seems so real.
After trying open beta I won't be buying this game myself. Nothing new or innovative about the gameplay although the graphics are nice (for about 10 minutes). I was very bored after about 3 days play.
Personally I will wait for something more original that combines decent PvE and PvP. Maybe Mourning or Dark & Light will hit the mark......
I am sure we will se in six months time which of us was right. I am sure it can steal players from the other huge games coming out now, being so special and all. Bye bye....
