I have not played Vanguard but i have played Age of conan for a very short period fo time up to level 5 on my friends computer the fighting was very innovative, I would like to know if Vanguard has any innovating aspects. Also what is the popualtion of these MMO's and what do their futures hold in store?
    Thanks for the reply's

Neither of them are worth my own time and money.  Whether one or the other is worth it to you, that's your own call.  I suggest waiting for something else.  Neither of the two games bring anything ground breaking, earth shattering, or special to the genre.  Both games are designed to be an enormous waste of time attempting to seperate people from their cash.  Save up, go on a trip, give to a charity, do something worthwhile as neither of these games, in my opinion, are.

You really think so? I dunno. Ive never had a 'wow' moment in AoC like Ive had in VG. I remember one evening my gf and I were on the Raven Cliffs in southern Thestra, and watched the sunset. We were both totally blown away at how beautiful it was. The trees swaying in the breeze is a huge immersion factor for me, which I have sorely missed in every game since. I left VG when they made all named drops BOP. Now that Silius is thinking of reversing that decision, and if he does, then I will definitely be back. Its a great game in spite of all its naysayers.

Yea, for the most part I do. You can tell they really put DX10 to use, especially in the caves where the light shines off the rock. That's one of the main things that "wow'ed" me in AoC. However, to back up your argument too, AoC doesn't have the environment VG does (which adds to the immersion factor).

I hope they bring Team PvP back. *crosses fingers*

You do realize directx10 is not in game as of yet, and never has been right?  So how did their use of dx10 wow you again?

Go with Vanguard now. I haven't tried Vanguard but as soon as I can get my hand on a key I will, I'd say 90% of feedback from people who resubbed somewhat recently is nothing but positive.

AoC when you get bored, hopefully it'll take you 3-5 months to get bored of Vanguard and by then AoC should have many of its kinks worked out, it really is a great game despite flaws.

Definitely vanguard.  I just canceled my aoc account yesterday.  AoC is great from 1-20 and then basically falls apart getting worse with every level till about 50 where it becomes a disaster....

Vanguard at this point is mostly complete and works well.  It is a huge wide open world with a great crafting system fantastic dungeons and a very good combat system.  Diplomacy is also kinda a fun pastime as well.

AoC is like a book with a pretty cover but nothing substantial inside where Vanguard is a full novell.

I'm not an AoC hater, I love the game - graphics and animation are very high on my list of desiderata in a game, and they help my immersion loads.  And as an old CoX fan, the feel of combat is very important to me too, and AoC has a very solid feel to its combat system, very realistic and immersive.

But having said that, I recently re-subbed to Vanguard, and if you really do want an open world with old-skool MMORPG feel to it, then Vanguard is your baby.  Seriously.  It's about that close to being the best MMO out at the moment.

I speak as someone who tried it 6 months ago and uninstalled it in disgust, as on my old system it just crawled, was hella buggy, had terrible character models, and the graphics (me not being able to turn them up much) looked crap.

Recently, having upgraded my comp, and with all the work the devs have quietly been doing on it, it's now a seriously good, well playable game with great graphics that still has a few flaws, but nothing major anymore - apart from that the characters are even worse than when they started, and have less customisability than when the game started.  But they're updating the characters real soon (a few months I hear), they're about 2/3 of the way through it, and customisability will be restored too.  So I'm gritting my teeth for the moment and pretending my characters aren't stiff plastic toys.  The animations are still terrible and there are still some syncing and lagging problems with animations and combat.  I'm not holding my breath for the animations being sorted out soon.

But I can handle that.  Because in every other way, Vanguard is pure class.  There's loads of content, great graphics (on a decent modern Core2Duo/8800 comp) beautiful design, great music, truly excellent, deep gameplay, and a vast, open world in which you are pretty much free to do what you want.

For those out there who hate AoC because it's not a free-roaming non-instanced MMORPG with an old skool feel, and if they can bear a little bit of bugginess still (far less than at launch or even 6 months ago), I can't emphasise enough how Vanguard will suit them to a tee.  And if it will stop them p*****g and moaning about AoC, that's an added side-benefit

I love them both, they are both truly great, if flawed games.  They both just suffer from high ambitions curtailed by too-early release.  Different in feel and gameplay, but both classics.
