Well as you all debate over xfire, try actually play AoC. Seems to be a great game but nobody sticks around. Why you ask? Because sales will keep going until you realize your comp wont handle and part of it because of the insane game req's. So...sales stay the same, logged hours go poof. Easy stuff.

I don't think AoC will drop as far as Vanguard but I think it is gonna keep dropping for awhile.  I'm gonna guess it might drop to around swg or eq2 levels by the end of summer?  any thoughts?

I just bought Vanguard to see what a turkey looked like a year on, it's a lot of fun. Trouble is that AoC really dosent have good core mechanics <shrug> amybe I'll go back in a year if there is a lull in the market. To be honest I'd rather go back to AO (and that would be for the fourth time)

  • I think they are losing people quickly as well. All of my RL friends have quit, and the friends I've made in game haven't logged on in a week or more. I guess I'm gonna be canceling, too unless the next patch fix must of current problems. The game is just boring.

Here is the last Xfire. Maybe I read the chart wrong but it seems that the hours are dropping?

xfire is good data.  some of you guys really amaze me at times.  10,000 people per day playing AOC and it goes down daily and you don't trust the trend data of 10k+ people?  you say they are canceling xfire but still playing AOC?

    highly highly doubt it

I'm not disappointed at all! Look! Conan users average 4 hours a day! WAR users average half an hour a day! WAR must SUCK!!!

That's a joke, obviously.  But seriously.  Don't put all your money on xfire.  10,000 people use it.  I doubt that many hardcore gamers bother with it.  I personally don't care about it and don't use it.  Plus, when a new game comes out, everyone does a mad rush to reach the top.  I spent a lot of time to get 80, then I unsubscribed just because I'm going to play something else until they release more endgame content.  It doesn't mean I quit the game, cause I'll be back.  And I'm sure other people that quit at 80 will come back once they fix up our end game.

  • Possibly, but it's probably the largest survey you're going to find for this game, period. So it's a lot more valid than these forum claims by a small minority. Xfire's user base is up in the several millions.

exactly.  blizzard, funcom, etc. are not going to tell you numbers of people playing.  xfire is a good service to track that info and it is legit info.  if you don't use it then maybe you should and contribute so you and others can tell what are the "real" top games are out there.

I hope they do well enough and show "Joe Public" that he's just a loud-mouth on a forum and in no way represents the majority of the MMOG community. :p

More than half the time Im playing on AoC, I turn off X-fire due to people bugging me while I play.

So I would put no stock in that number.

I wouldn't either. I don't even use xfire, and there really is no way of knowing how many people playing AoC use it.

3/4 of AoC's player base may not even use xfire so the only thing it means is xfire users that play AoC are playing less.

Maybe 4/5 of the playerbase are using X-fire.

I think both are valid and interesting numbers, and it's important to remember that they don't contradict each other at all. Funcom's numbers are about boxes sent to retail and accounts created, while XFire numbers give an indication (not the full picture - just an indication) of the change in activity (not the total activity - not all use XFire).

Did anybody compare the change in AoC activity on XFire with the change in WoW, LotR and EQII activity on XFire? I'd expect AoC to drop more as the biggest churn for any MMOG is after the first free month, but with summer and nice weather I expect they all drop these weeks.

where do you get your Numbers?

I know for a fact that there are a ton of gamers that Dont Use it. Majority of the People in our Guild didnt know a thing about it.

People who play alot of FPS seem to know about it but people who play MMORPG's usualy have no need for it

you guys amaze me. It does not matter if 1% or 95% of AOC's population is using XFire. What matters is the trend and the trend is that the game is losing about 6 or 7 thousand XFire user hours per week. Does not matter if  they are hard core or soft core players really. Only thing that matters is that the numbers are smaller today than it was on this same day last week which was less than it was two weeks ago on the same day etc etc etc.

The population is going down down down............ and rather quickly I might add. What is really shocking is it is still at number 11 on the Amazon charts and even with all the new players coming in with those box sales it seems to be losing players even faster. So if nothing else retailers are doing well as is the distributer. But Funcom is taking it in the shorts since the only place the developer really sees much profit is in long term subscribers. And right now it looks like the majority of people are  not going beyond the  free month. I'd be surprised if they averaged 25% retention for the first real sub period and chances are the second month will be worse unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Depends on how FC's cash flow is I would think. I saw a prospectus a while back on one thread but don't recall how much liquid assets they have. Their stock is falling pretty fast and right now I would think most of their cash inflow and development assets are going toward trying to keep their heads above water with all of the issues and retention problems they are having with the PC version.

age of conan mmorpg.com boards have alot of people who are dissapointed once they reach higher levels being there is not much engame content. more so than the other boards. I see more negative comments on these boards than positive. sure there are a few who still love it, but you see them a month later with the same old "im not happy anymore" post. the game is i quick 30 day fix(or however long it take to reach 60-80), then you move on, no one wants to stick around if there is no true endgame. i played beta, by the time retail came out knowing how unfinished it was i was not going to be a dumb a** and buy it. overall the game is a big disappointment  to your average level 80, like i said some 80's may stick around , but the majority of them unsubscribe. LOTRO and WOW for the win, i still subscribe to both after years, AOC i wouldn't touch after a few months of beta and test live. i also did test live all they way up until last week, so we were playing the same game you were and got patches before you retailers. IMO he game lacks at current state,  when playing Necro class i got to like level 60 using one spell the whole time. in WOW you are forced to mix it up and use your buffs or you will die, AOC has no balance. The lore sucks, you cant deny that. the drops are retarded. my level 60 almost looked like my lvl 10. the social stinks. system requirement are retard even though i have an 8800, core duo, gamepaly is bore, quest are repetative, graphics are great though..but thats it.

Do you accept other consumer goods and service in a similar state of disrepair and incomletedness? Even people who like it up the jacksy usually prefer a bit of lubricant and a chance to brace themselves. Of course those in the know realise there are two completely different games the early one that is pretty sweet and the one that comes after the first is completed that is.................non existent.

I'm short FC!  The state of AoC's end 'game' is about as close to inside information as you can get. The thing is people who are defending the game now (and the early game is a lot of fun and worth defending) will leave whe they discover that once the 'content'  is done  the MMO game is very weak, that is a bigger problem than bugs and missing stuff. I think its a safe bet.

I used to use Xfire but didn't see any value in using it so haven't been using it for a while and I know for certain that many of my friends don't even know about Xfire or don't care about it.

So using Xfire as a source is only valid for the amount of players using it not for the majoirty that don't bother to use it.

  • bjornargbjornarg Member Posts: 175

Looking at the trend now, it seems the graph could be ending up stable at around 20k. Now I know it's too early to predict and too many factors involved, but that would indeed back up the subscriber statement in the press release.
