I reinstalled it and played a bit. The game actually felt worse than when I left it last year. Which is surprising considering how much hype I've been reading about on these forums and others. SOE gave 2 free months for EQ2 about a month ago which I've been playing and I have to say the quality of polish in EQ2 simply blows Vanguard out of the water.
When I left Vanguard I somehow had it in my mind that the game was beautiful...not so much anymore. The character animations still need work and it's obvious from the word "go". The interface is still a low-quality WoW clone. The quests are still pointless and soulless. The low-quality voice overs are a joke...it sounds like they grabbed random people from around the office to do the voices (wouldn't be surprised).
I created a dark elf cleric and noticed from the second I entered the game I had to /flush every twenty seconds because the game was bugging out. I only ever had to use /flush rarely back when I played VG all those months ago.
I have no beef with people that are playing it and still enjoy it. If this game is what you enjoy then more power to you. I know Vanguard has many redeeming qualities because I've experienced them in the past. But the low quality amateurish presentation is too much for me. When there's still problems that have been present since beta plaguing the game you know it's not a good sign. If you enjoyed Vanguard in the past and are thinking about reinstalling to take advantage of the free time I would definitely say go for it. Vanguard can be a fun game if you can get around the issues.
I'll say one last thing. I'm pretty pleased with how SOE has run the game since Sigil's collapse. Almost all the problems that still plague the game are a result of the horrible mismanagement of Sigil and certain core design decisions. Still, it's pretty obvious that it's a skeleton crew running Vanguard now and I wish SOE would devote more resources/manpower to it and completely revamp it and rerelease it, possibly with an expansion. They've come a ways since Sigil but there's still a looooooooong way to go.
I am back in the game. I played during the beta and launch. It is a HUGE step forward for the game right now after GU5. I recommend trying it out if you have not played since launch like myself.
I always liked the game but the performance issues were a killer for me. I came back around update 3 or 4. Its was better but still not very good. I can happily say that things are alot better. Say what you will about SOE, but they have done a hell of a job with Vanguard. The same can be said of EQ 2 also. that game is alot better too.

Thats pretty much how i feel with my return to VG after a year or so , chunking problems , dissapearing -re-setting mobs during combat and just a general lack of ambience and atmosphere to the game which considering came from the same stables as everquest is astonishing , yes the char models do look a bit rough so soe do have a huge overhaul on this game to get it up to a level of playability and immersion for the masses and to be honest i cannot see them throwing vast sums of cash and manpower into it at this stage in the game but for the people who stayed on through the rocky times post release and to people looking into the game in its present state and are looking to play vanguard i hope SoE do the right thing !
Vanguard's perfomance is at least doubled and now the game is at last playable. If you liked vanguard's seamless world and its concept now it's the right time to play it. The only "problem" is that its hudge world needs a lot of people to make it feel alive again.
I was one of the people complaining about its perfomance and bugs but now i have almost nothing negative to say about it.
I tried the game in my old PC with a P4 3.2 cpu and a cheap 8600 GT nvidia and i got at least 30 fps in balanced settings. This was impossible a year ago.
If it was released like that we would still have Sigil Games. I guess SOE knows when to strike...
As the title says, /Sign if you are installing or have re-installed Vanguard because of the recent email sent around letting you play for pretty much all of July. I'm installing the game as we speak. It says alot to me that SOE ( as many bad points the company may have) is giving people that bought the game at launch a chance to try it again free of cost. It also means that if I dont like it i dont feel like I've lost the money for the months subscription :P See you all in game Edit: Just made the post clearer
Wish they had done this sooner. I had already resubscribed earlier this month.

Life sucks, buy a helmet.
I certainly hope that is the case. Because I tried it out ysterday, and the graphics don't look that great.
The hitching was also not all that different to when I played last year.

Installed and played a bit, but the update actually made things worse for me.
I now lag even on minimum settings, whereas I WAS playing on balanced just fine.
Needless to say, I uninstalled. ><
/sign - almost done patching

I did a few weeks ago just to see if this game was as bad as the soe haters made it out to be. Firgured it was, so it was quickly uninstalled.

Grammar nazi's. This one is for you.
Yup. I went to check out my rogue in Sartok ( Or whatever the servers are called now).
Logged in to find my corpse exactly where I left about a year ago on the bottom of an ocean somewhere, except Recall and /Stuck yes did not work.
Uninstalled as quickly as I did the first time around.
