The game's hype time is finally starting to end. LOTRO has passed it up now, and if Funcom doesn't fix some major problems soon then it might even be off the type 5 or so list before we know it.

Which, as we all know, is the major indicator for success of an MMO, right?

I was just letting people know. I know some people that would be happy to know that this is finally happening. I know a lot of people that were wanting to see if it would stand at the top or fall soon. I guess we have signs of the answer to come if not the full blown answer right now.

I just point out the obvious. The most successful MMO isn't even in that list. Why people want to see that happening, or are happy about it is beyond me. The MMORPG.com boards are, after all, in no way any indicator of what game is successful or not.

Then couldn't you tell the OP was also pointing out the obvious? People saw through the hype when the free month ended, and there's still people playing. But what he says is true: if Funcom doesn't change and deliver ALL their promises, alot more people are going to lose interest.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

Thank you. When the game came out, i was very into the game...probably 90% over on the fanboy side, but then I realized that it was ridiculous that a huge ammount of the content in AoC was lacking what they had promised us. That resulting in a large lack of variet in things to do... The only thing that there is for me to do until I get to a higher level is just quest...over and over and over. I would like to pvp...get those levels up. Umm...do the gathering quests and do those things....or maybe drunken brawling. Though I cannot because the crafting drop rates are very very low. The pvp levels are not implemented yet, and neither is drunken brawling. Mainly the problem is the lack of variety and things to do. Questing, combat and graphics are the only thing that makes this game ANY fun to me...sorry but that is just not enough.

Sure. That's a given, as with any other game. Companies need to improve their games, or people will leave.
What I pointed out, is that AoC being on Place 2 of the MMORPG.com charts of this site is nothing to indicate success or the lack thereof. If anything, it could be seen as a lack of interest from the few (comperatively, speaking in whole gaming community terms now), people who are here.
But sheesh, if you're all so adamant about this being something important, please. I just don't see the sense.

lmao... singsofdeath's comment was pretty much accurate (in a sarcastic matter). I was waiting for AoC's rating to go from #1 to #2 to see this happen... was pretty much predictable that someone would try using this as a way to say AoC failed somehow.
Has anyone noticed the ratings for all of the games listed on this site have gone up significantly? Before AoC was released, no game reached over 8.0. Now the top voted are at least 8.2.
You guys are too defensive/agressive towards video games. You posted in response to singsofdeath's response (sarcastic but true) as if you posted this to just inform people that this reached below the number of people voting for LOTRO. It's on the front page, bud, we all see it. This is a drama post. There isn't going to be anything beneficial to be seen in this thread... nothing factual about the game's development or the game itself. It will be people saying, "HA HA! LOTRO is the greatest game EVAR because we have more voters! HAHAHA!!!1!" in as much of a sarcastic tone I can muster.
IF player ratings on all these gaming sites actually mattered, I could easily back up or argue against your claims. Your assumption being that LOTRO is a better game than AoC because it has had more voters on a single tiny gaming community (not even half a % of the AoC or LOTRO population). For one, to back it up, it's had even worse ratings on multiple sites other than this one. To argue, it's also had higher. If we were to claim that this was the one and only site for factual gaming information, I could say that LOTRO has been out longer and therefore should have always had the largest number of votes to begin with (the fact that AoC was even higher than LOTRO's already from the time it's been out at one moment says something). Second, LOTRO's actual rating is not higher. It is still 8.4, equal to AoC's. To back up your claims, LOTRO's will most likely reach higher than AoC's.
But considering this entire site is biased as hell, actual ratings mean jack crap. I was surprised to begin with to see that within it's first month AoC has already had as many voters as it has had. Like I said, the fact that it exceeded LOTRO's since it's been out for so much longer than AoC says something. The amount of people paying attention to a game rather than it's actual votes are two different things.
Not that any of this that I've stated about votes actually matters. I want to see someone make more drama from my post, please. I could care less.
I don't understand internet drama.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
1 thing tho is that when silkroad and all f2p game equal aoc and the f2p as great game (rohan etc)so good that p2p isnt as interesting why pay for a game + pay monthly fee + all toy ,when you can get f2p store based game perfect world as alot of goody .sword of the new word
im sorry to say this but aoc isnt impressive enough might as well play the f2p if you dont like it at least you didnt spend fron 30 to 80 buck to buy it
Are most of the people who frequent these forums new to the MMORPG genre? I mean really?
I would like to know which game hit the market flawless with all that was intended in the game implemented?
Are the people that are posting pointless threads like this aware that the companies who prduce these games are actually a business, a business with investors who put pressure on them to release a game because they want to see a return?
Are there anymore sane peole out there that play MMO's? Back in the day it seemed like it was just a bunch of us computer geeks playing, but now the MMO market has attracted the shut-ins, socialy inept, and psychologically unstable.
Ahhhhh nostalgia!
Let's face it, if the players who have rated it were truthful or waited till they were over level 20, AoC wouldn't have been in the top 5 in the first place.
Sadly the 'chart' here on MMORPG.com is not a very good indicator of the success/failiure of MMORPG's.
People who haven't even played or bought a MMORPG could be making up ratings based on what they read on the forums or feelings they have towards the company. Thats why WoW isn't listed, it has a LOT of haters, many who haven't even played it but rated it anyway.

hehe it seems to appear that either people posting here has a very short term memory regarding previous releases.. and I posted in another topic I want anyone to list me any single mmo that didn't have gltiches and bugs when it was released... and no reply... I recon it said it all...
Most mmo's need time to away bugs, some games improve some doesn't.. AoC is in baby stadium after release... let's see how it does in a couple of months.
I find Xfire to be the best place for information which can be represented as the closest to accurate.
http://www.xfire.com/genre/mmo/massively_multiplayer_online/
This link in my opinion is how I can find out how popular and active a game still is. Closest to accurate ratings. Except....ignore most Free2Play games and Lineage II since they require players to stay online/AFK with their shops.
I don't know about that one...

Sure, a totally non-random sample of players can choose when to turn on and off metering software which does nothing more than watch when a particularly named .exe file starts up. Sounds really accurate and difficult to spoof.

Whats hilarious to me is people still think it's bugs and glitches that has injured the game. You really think it's the bugs and glitches?
Compare bugs and glitches to whole chunks of missing game systems, and the bugs and glitches are nothing.
AoC isn't getting trashed and put down by people because of some graphical glitches and lack of content. You should read more from the aoc forum or even here. AoC is getting trashed because they didn't put the things in the game that they promised. Had they even "warned" customers that these systems wouldn't be in the game, they'd be in a better position, but since with no warning you're buying half a game (literally) people are pissed about it, as they should be.
Had AoC released with all of the promised features, people wouldn't even be phased by the bugs and glitches. That's of course common place and more than ok.
To add. I think the game has HUGE potential, it just bothers the hell out of me that they could actually not test things, and leave out things, and people still be ok with it.
I'm sure the game will do great down the road once everything that should have been in by now is in, but as a company they should learn to be more honest with their player-base about what's going to make it and what isn't.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
It was not the bugs and glitches that drove me away per se. The severe lack of content pushed me to the edge of canceling my account, but I was willing to wait it out. The bugs and patch after patch causing the degradation of FPS performance despite being on the lowest settings, when previously it ran fine on the highest is what finally pushed me over the edge. The game is fun, but fails to be so after constant crashes and horrid FPS.
if Funcom doesn't fix...
Can they fix anything at all? 7th patch to fix alchemy, still bugged. Only 1 of the level 70 feats on my character list is working. Lag became so bad.
I cannot believe just 2 weeks ago I was defending this shit game.
Yeah. It has issues and currently thinks like +Strength and +Damage, and so on aren't really working. But I'm having fun and if you hit 80 then they release an awesome update you can be happy knowing you have a lvl 80. Im at least happy they update twice a week and they do a lot per update, and when guild sieges are working right the games hype will jump right back up!
For me it was the constant disconnects and Funcom placing blame on us the end users for issues we were having. I will probably be back once they can get the connection issues resolved but that wont be until Funcom realizes their game has bugs and who knows how long that is....

2 weeks ago I was playing with 50+ fps, which was actually not needed even, cause this is not a FPS where you need that high reaction time.
Since last patch I can play with 10~ fps. If I play with 2 other casters and we start AoE, we all crush to log in screen. We were told to talk with our ISP... with 1 playing from Sweden, other from Moscow, last from Turkey. I cannot even understand how they dare to blame our ISPs.
With the stupid idea of `if you damage a mob more, you get the loot`, it became impossible for low levels to kill the bosses for their quests. Level 80s outdamage poor guys and get the kill so often. This became such a serious problem as most of the few quests available are meant to kill someone/something, which is camped because it drops good loot which can be sold. (Boss items were supposed to be `not tradable`, so high levels cannot farm and sell them at trader)
