Maybe its a entirely different ip and we are going to get smacked in the face.  My predictions for WoW are two more Expansions.

may 2010 Diablo 3 is released

march 2010 Diablo the MMO is released.

sorry but to me that is a complete and utter waste of an IP.  starcraft on the other hand is set for an 09 release and this new MMO should roughly be around 2010/11 so thats a good gap between them.  Starcraft 2 will always be popular as long as there is a South Korea (no offence intended).

But South Koreans like SC the RTS.

Wait.   How do you get "They have said that a new MMO would not be a continuation of a current franchise." from that quote.    I take it to mean the next blizzard MMO will not be a WoW like game.   It still could be set the starcraft universe.   I think Diablo doesn't seem very likely.

That quote is hysterical, because WoW was several things, but innovative and new was not one of them. Its possibly the more generic MMORPG released to date, with not a single unique feature. Not one.

    Maybe they will buy Darkfall..

So what is preventing them from making a WoW 2?

WoW was innovative.  It definitely expanded on other games esp. EQ.   But in terms of game design it was very innovative.    Hmm  "not a single unique feature. Not one."   I'll give a few.   Rest experience and the hearthstone - (personal teleportion to a set point for all classes)  Also skill trees.   Where two characters of the same class could be very different from each other.

Why are we even talking about this? They started to work on it last year, and if they follow suit with WoW, won't have it released until 2014.

But they have already said that it wouldn't even be like WoW. It would be a nex-gen MMORPG.

Just please, please ... PLEASE give the players content that allows players themselves to make content easily. That's all I'm asking for. Throw in whatever you want, I just want that.

you guys are being very 1 dimentional.  activision is part of blizzard now.  they have a lot of games in their arsonel they could have handed blizzard to do an MMO with.

    1.  transformers

    2.  x-men

    3.  marvel

    4.  call of duty 4

    just to name a few.

    have a more open mind

Blizzard have to be going Sci-fi, they can boom that mmo genre up like no other, SC2 will be there to initialize the Sci-Fi hype, then they announce their new mmo.

I pray to god it's on the board of a hybrid between many things, such as Freelancer. Would be lovely to have a mmo version of Freelancer, add Blizzard quality and we got the biggest Sci-Fi game in history.

I still hold that with Activision's purchase of Blizzard, they're doing an Activision IP.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

    Animation programming experience
Experience with programming with a 3D graphics tool chain
    Familiarity with3ds Max or Maya
Prior 3D development work experience on MMORPG, RPG, and/or RTS games

Looks like it's an MMORTS to me, or else they wouldn't ask for someone with experience with RTSs.

It could be that it is an MMORPG with a "Commander" class that plays like an RTS.  This would be a REALLY COOL aspect to bring to an MMO.  Battles would be much more organized.  There is a mod for HL2 that is an RTS/FPS and is loads of fun.

I don't think they are going to go "pure" RTSMMO it would be an MMORPG with RTS added in.

  • DookzDookz Member UncommonPosts: 562

I would also like to see an MMORTS game, but nothing like what we have today. I don't think this will be a small niche like some people claim it might be. Any new generation of MMORTS/RPG may have to be persistent and not restricted to server sessions or even lengthy game periods and may have to incorporate elements from rpg games and maybe even tycoon games.. (Blizzard may have to partner up with other teams such as Ensemble Studios and maybe even get Will Wright the genius behind Sim City for the project ) It is a risky proposition since no one has ever done anything in this magnitude.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

ok call of duty 4 is ruled out because its an online shooter and could never be an MMO.

Transformers is a tad weak to make a whole MMO out of it (however i do like the idea of giant robots as avatars)

Marvel is still recovering from the 1st failed attempt at a marvel MMO and i doubt blizz will take on the guys who make CoH (and the other super hero MMO...i forget the name)

X-men...same thing as marvel except an MMO has not been attempted yet.

    any other Activision titles?

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

yeah, tons...but disagree with transformers being weak for an MMO.

Blizz isnt about to make a MMO that would directly compete with world of warcraft, that would be silly. So whatever MMO theyre likely designing wont be the same genre as WoW is.

Starcraft MMO would give sci-fi fans a place to call home without diminishing WoW subscriptions. It would bring in ex-swg players and maybe some AO players as well looking for a new sci-fi MMO.

I cant see Blizz going out and making a MMO from scratch. A game like WoW or Starcraft already has a built-in fan base. Something brand new is a huuuuge risk and Blizz isnt known as a risktaker

.    Tabula Rasa was the last "Big" sci-fi mmo to come out and it failed miserably.  EVE does not appeal to the casual player and you cant get out of your spaceship.

THe SCi-Fi MMO market is COMPLETELY UNTAPPED.

1.) CCP will in the near future add ambulation which means that you will have characters getting out of their ships in station. It's just a matter of time as CCP has pretty much said that this project is something they want to do and are looking forward to completion. In fact the Trinity engine update was done in preparation to lay the ground work for this new aspect of EVE.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJF5d7iaTGc

2.) Eve is the most casual friendly game currently out right now. Of course it can also be a very played as a hardcore game if you decide to play it that way.

I believe the biggest problems that most people have playing EvE have nothing to do with the fact you can't get out of your ship.

The 2 biggest problems I have with the game are #1, the skill system is completely time based and not based on gameplay.  You can play as little or as much as you want and it matters zero to what your skills are.  Nothing you do in game effects your skills, it's simply a matter of how much time you have spent training them.

#2 The fact that the game plays more like a space simulation than a game.  It's simply boring.  While the graphics are amazing, piloting your space ship is about as much fun as taking a tour of NASA.  It's interesting, but it ain't fun.  Same is true of it's weapons system.  The same can be said for it's interface of drop down menu's.  I feel like I'm working on an excel spreadsheet rather than being a bounty hunter.

    I am pessimistic.

    Very pessimistic.

I don't think even Blizzard can make a second succesful MMORPG.

Seen the footage of SC2 and now the videos of Diablo.

Pfff bad, worse, worst 2D/3D views in 2010 ???  I think Blizzard is losing its touch.

People want 3D now, not some previous century lame 2D scrolling.

So I am thinking .... how long will Wow stay alive, because about all other products recently launched have NO added value at all. Certainly not viewing  nude tits at 4 frames per second...

Let's hope I am wrong, but I fear the worst.

  • Bane82Bane82 Member UncommonPosts: 1,242

    WoW40k? lol!
No, but in all seriousness, do you think that, since they've been saying that it will be a new IP. Maybe they'll mix Fantasy and Sci Fi ala WAR40k? would they call it WoWSC?

I on the other hand have already made plans for my pre-release copy of both games after watching the video's.  Can't imagine what in the world you were looking at.  The D3 game-play video looked amazing.  The havoc engine looked amazing.  The amazing thing is that Blizzard will probably not release the game for at lease a year and it already looks more polished than most games I play. LOL

Actually it might be a good thing to be a pessimist, that way at least you won't be too bummed out if it doesn't meet the expectationg of over-hyped fans, heck, Blizzard might give you a surprise or two.

A crazy guess, but I am going to say their new MMO will be something like "Blizzard Worlds" where all the franchises come together as one in some form or another.

Pretty sure they'll come up with someone totally new for their mmo.

I would love to see World of Warcraft 2, kind of like EQ2 yes, yes?? :)

Doubt starcraft, just because my gut feeling doesnt think it will be.
