The level cap will be raised, but there will be a skill cap just like there is in Guild Wars 1. For example, the "cap" will stay at 20, but one can just go on gaining levels. They will, however, be meaningless. ArenaNet said that the reason for this decision is that they wanted to "reward" players who focus on advancing a specific character by allowing the number next to their name to increase. It's purely consmetic.

Oh well, if that's the case then fine by me. I''m aware that a majority of players (me included) do get some kind of satisfaction from seeing some number increased.

What is important to me is that the relative power between a new player and an older player isn't made so great to completely preclude any possibility of them communicating meaningfully.

The game could have a 1000 levels for all I care as long as a bunch of level 1s can conceivably take out a level 1000 if he gets careless.. And additionally the same bunch of level 1s can help out a level 1000 on his quest, no matter how slightly.

This whole level-stratification thing in MMOs is getting soo tiresome and the sense of achievement it offers is obviously fake. "Lol now that I'm 30 I can go to area X. Not because I learned something, not because I'm a better player now able to take a greater challenge but only because that number on my character sheet increased due to raw time invested." Yawn.

Just replace "race" with "class" and think about how stupid your question sounds now. GW1 has Warrior, Elementarist, Assassin, Necromancer etc. All "exact copies" of "almost every other fantasy MMO" classes.

What on Earth does that have to do with the races that will be available? The debate has nothing to do with professions, but with races. I fail to see the stupidity in my question, considering you are the one completely off-topic

If you want to talk classes, then please tell me exactly what a Mesmer is a copy of? The Paragon and Dervish are both similar to classes in other games, but play completely differently too. Yes, there are the standard classes, but one cannot deny the fact that as new professions were added they did add their own twists to them.

The most absurd kind of postings is where the poster even quotes exactly what the guy he's answering to has written, but proves then drastically that he hasnt read it at all, merely skipped over it and loaded some keywords, but missed the context.

And PLEASE also reread what I wrote before, especially the

    red

sentence, as you obviously havent read my first posting in this discussion either:

They have humans and 4 other races. But these other races are not, like one would expect, Elf / Dwarf / Orc / Halfling or some such. Or ok, they have something like Elf / Dwarf / Orc / Halfling, except they found some ugly names for them and changed their looks much to the disadvantage.
I'm all for new creative classes and races, but I dont want to miss the standard

So where did I mention Mesmer, Paragon etc as examples for classes that where "exact copy of" ? I mentioned explicitly Warrior, Elementarist, Necromancer and Assassin. I hardly have to explain how often these classes appear in countless variations in countless other games, do I ?

And great you proved that GW contains original classes. Only thats not against anything I said, and not what I complain about. I complain about getting some pseudocreative variations of the usual and being unable to play my beloved elves, for example, just because the GW creators thought it to be "uncreative" to include standard races as well.

Please, explain to me exactly how my question is stupid when what I was talking about had absolutely nothing to do with what you were talking about?  Guild Wars may indeed have professions that are similar to those found in other games, but I never said it didn't. You quoted a sentence of mine, completely altered what I was trying to say then proceed to call me the stupid one?

Secondly, you may have expressly mentioned those four professions, but as you'll notice I have highlighted in red above, you were indeed referring to all of them. If you expect me to somehow fathom exactly which professions you are talking about then there honestly is no hope for this world.

    I'm actually flabberghasted.

The instances I didn't mind so much, but lack of a z-axis was a huge turn-off in the original game for me.

As for lateral advancement level-less systems, for every player that enjoyed it, there were 2 such as myself that did not, which the Dev's have recognized and so are making changes to try and draw in a larger audience.

Time will tell whether this straying from the core game will hurt them or not.

I didnt claimed that you claimed all classes in GW are unique. I have no clue how you get the idea that I would claim that, either. I wrote nothing of that sort.

Too, I havent claimed ALL classes in GW are standard ones. That I gave 4 examples and applied "etc" simply means that I stated 4 classes which clearly are popular, then figured I've proved my point already and will skip over the cases where its not so clear if they are truely unique, or not.

And your interpretation of that passage, again, conflicts with what I wrote before. I dont oppose original content. I oppose only getting experimental stuff without the standard stuff as well.

Does anyone else think that the Tengu should be made a playable race in GW2? They've been around since Prophecies, much longer than the Norn, Asura, and Sylvari. Really, there's no limit to what classes they can be and there all different kinds of Tengu from different regions.

Also, they won't start beta testing in 2008, stated here- guildwars.com/products/guildwars2/gw2faq/
