I just recently came back to LOTRO after playing AoC. I had encountered a bug that had me falling through the world and dying nearly every ten steps I took. I'll go back to playing AoC after a while.
As far as AoC being a steak and wine, I'd agree. Unfortunately, they failed to cook the steak and the wine is a glass of grapes. And I've never been to a McD's where I ordered a Big Mac meal, and while enjoying the meal they continued to give me more to eat at no charge.
Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing. Looking Forward To:
Let him laugh. Let him make his little jokes. Just wait. The box promises things the game does not deliver. I have been in contact with the Illinois Attorney General, Consumer Frauds division. Can you say "class action?"
I have to laugh at you seriously. How many of you people have made this threat of class action lawsuits against gaming companies? How many have come to fruition? I will tell you how many.. NONE
But go ahead and try to bring a class action lawsuit against Funcom and lets see just how far you get. My guess would be nowhere.
I like AoC, I am taking my time in game and not rushing anything. My main just hit level 40 and I probably won't be 50 for about another 2 months so by then they should have alot of the features in that for some reason or another didn't make the release date.
One thing that amazes me is how much gamers whine like little children who didn't get that candy bar at the checkout lane in the grocery store. Software development is a tricky business (rightfully so with MMOs and single player games). Sometimes a feature just can't make it in for release. Crap happens and they said that stuff that was promised will be put in the game and they will.
Patience is the key word here and if you have no patience online gaming is definately not for you or anyone else like you.
I agree, but the AOC team should focus talking about AOC without the negative implied remarks about other games. WOW is like mcD's..c'mon there have been a thousand threads on these forums using that exact anology..he could at least have made an original statement if he felt the need to go there...and you can understand people's reaction to him then saying AOC is like steak. Look at it from both sides if want others to as well.
How about everyone be nice. If you feel you got taken by the hype, you should be blaming yourself if you are a reugular user at mmorpg.com. You guys were warned. However if you feel that your rights as a consumer were violated, then take whatever action you feel necessary. you still wont have a game to play though, which I think is all that people want.
Patience is not a necessity for mmorpg players. Open and honest communication about the product your peddeling is. That is what Turbine did well with the LOTRO beta and launch and were still able to sell as many boxes without lying or hiding the state of their product from the people they wanted to buy it. This forced them to release a much smaller world, but they told you that and allowed you to see it for yourself, also allowed for price discounts to compensate while they add the rest of the world. Unless you have blizzard's money..its hard to release a polished, huge game world. My opinion of coarse.
This I really agree with, well said!
Everybody knew what LotrO was going to be like and who they were designing the game for and what was in the game at release and they had a very open beta to show everyone what to expect... AoC is a good game and it will become great and together with WAR and LotrO they will be the tier under WoW in the MMO fantasy market the next years
but the AoC director is really throwing stones while sitting in a house of glass...
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

LOTRO and its fans should take the comment from the AOC guy as a compliment. If your getting mentioned along with WOW from one of your competitors..that is a good thing for this game. He wouldnt have said LOTRO if this game wasnt one of the leaders. AOC has the potential to be or remain one too. Good luck to Funcom and their devs especially.
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
AOC better than WOW and LOTRO. Gaute must really be a graphics whore or playing the version were not getting. Because AOC sucks balls. Cant even compare the gameplay to LOTRO and WOW. Steak and wine, more like a piece of chewed bubble gum on my shoe. He must not read his community forums because his game is far from gourmet, and the annoying combat system is nothing to brag bout.
Failcom make me sick. They are a pathetic bunch of "elitests" who created a buggy, unfinished console game. Then after lying to the public about features that never even made it into the release client, they have the audacity to start taking shots at other games that are SIGNIFICANTLY better than their own.
They marketed their game using T&A and violence, Surprise of surprises, the lowest common denominator (aka the masses) embraced it with open arms. The very same people who buy millions of Britney Spears albums. It sold well initially, but as more and more negativity surfaced via the web, the sales slowed and a WALL of criticism appeared.
In reality, AOC isnt really an MMO. Lotro may be many things but making snidey comments about it when your game flounders around on the beach like a water deprived fish is terribly inappropriate. I would suggest Failcom fixes their train wreck of an "MMO" before attacking other peoples.
Funcom marketing and Gaute himself needs a few good swift kicks to the nads. Their PR is probably the worst i have ever seen. Their PR points are dropping faster than the gemslots in their armor.

I agree with this..
Funcom made some major mistakes.
Yet, the game is considerably more fun than LOTRO.
If they would have stopped at 60 levels, and filled those areas with content, catered to the casuals, and avoided PvP on launch, the game would be a major success.
No, now it will probably wallow in the same amount of subscribers as Vanguard, EQ2 or LOTRO...just niche numbers.

so since AoC failed you. what game are you going to be a fanboy of next?? Darkfall maybe?

Actually, no LOTRO did not do the one thing AoC DID do. Have a FUN game.
Turbine missed that boat.
Now, if Funcom had not tried to bite off more than it could chew, it would not be on everyones hit list. What is sad on AoC's part is the game is vibrant, feels more alive and has great combat and the story lines which are fun. But, they tried to push it too far, and like LOTRO did not release with enough content and bugs that feel as big as Vanguard.
The difference is I WANT to go back to AoC, while LOTRO everytime I returned left the same bad taste in my mouth when I left. All I know is Funcom the company is my issue with AoC, not the game itself.
Anyways, hopefully Funcom can get it's act together, and fix the issues, as it will be worth the time and effort, and they deserve at least a pat on the back for trying something new and somewhat innovative. Something LOTRO did NOT do.
i am a fan of LOTRO and it has done bad in the market and most people who play the game are helpful and know what they are doing....like a Fastfood chain
WoW is an easy game but if you order too much you get full fast...chinesee fast food
AoC is very unpolished and full of rude "elitest" people..........just a bad game, looks great ,but so does LOTRO and LOTRO is getting the content that it needs and will have a fan base for a long time.
......I can't wait to hear what funcom says about WAR
I don't have the millions, but I can certainly say I'm an honest individual who goes to sleep at night with a clear mind, knowing I haven't made promises to thousands of people that were downright lies.

YOUR OPINION
And in MY OPINION AoC was extremly boring and the combat system was dull as hell... and in MY OPINION LotrO is alot of FUN and have kept me playing for almost 1.5 year...
But do you know the difference between you and me? I dont troll the AoC forum all the time and telling them how boring that game is in MY OPINION...
and yes LotrO wasnt very innovative but they never claimed it would be and its very different from all other MMOs out there in alot of way and caters to a different crowd...
Dont know what was new and innovative about AoC thou... seems to me like the graphics is the only feature that sets it apart.. (that wsnt broken atleast)
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
I do think many of us like to try the new place to eat that opened up and see if it is a fit. It may taste good the first few times but after that it just seems to just sit there. There was fun to be had in aoc but in the long run lotr had me hooked. No it is not new and different yes many of the same ole same ole features but for some reason i am still playing lotr and just not in any hurry about it to rush through, just enjoying the journey along the way. I might add at least on the server i am on except for the gold spammers chat seems to be more friendly then what i found on the few servers i tried in aoc. Also the players seem to be more respectful then in aoc .... If the choice is pve /pvp and whack a mole is whack a mole then for me lotr just works out well

Don't even bother with this guy. His "arguments" dont even make sense. Maybe if we ignore him, he'll go away. I've come to the conclusion that most of the people that like AoC, are people I'd rather not play with. It's like a big Island for the type of player I cant stand. I say more power to it. It has been very efficient at removing people like Openedge1 from Lotro, so in that respect, it is a huge success.
I agree with his comparison. LoTRO, like McDonalds, is a place where you can get consistently decent quality. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but you get exactly what you expect and you leave satisfied, every time. In short, it's reliable and accessible.
AoC on the other hand, is like anoverpriced steak house, where you get a steaming hunk of perfectly aged meat on your plate for $50. It's a refreshing break from your every day meal options. Problem is, as often as not, they won't cook your $50 steak right, and you'll have to send it back and wait for hours for them to get it right while you get drunk on your $100 bottle of improperly stored Cabernet.

Will someone please let this Gaute guy know that you should NEVER serve wine before it's time. And if you're gonna promise good wine... don't serve Koolaid.
So he says AOC is Steak and Wine. Well That's a good setup for AOC and the differences between WOW/LOTRO.
McDonalds is quick and balanced in favors at all times as it's always the same. Steaks and wine are much harder to prepare and much easier to screw up if not done just right. Steak also takes much longer to make then a McDonalds burger. People who prefer steak and wine also are much more demanding of taste, appearance, and the time it takes to make it. So far AOC only has appearance, they are still lacking in 66% overall in their service. They best hurry and get it done right soon. People who go to a nice place to sit and eat rather then a plastic seated fast food place are much more likely to leave and never come back when they demand and expect higher quality items like they were promised for their meal.
AoC is fun, but it's not all that polished. It also has it's own share of problems and weaknesses. A truer comparison might be McDonalds and Wendys. I don't think any MMO is serving steak at the moment.

I just cant stop laughing at this.. you have been bashing LotrO for a year and then this?? This is exactly what Turbine did with LotrO...
so since AoC failed you. what game are you going to be a fanboy of next?? Darkfall maybe?
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
I agree with this..
Funcom made some major mistakes.
Yet, the game is considerably more fun than LOTRO.

No, now it will probably wallow in the same amount of subscribers as Vanguard, EQ2 or LOTRO...just niche numbers.

This is pathetic.
I don't have the millions, but I can certainly say I'm an honest individual who goes to sleep at night with a clear mind, knowing I haven't made promises to thousands of people that were downright lies.
Now, who has a clue again?

If WoW = The Beatles

This guy again? Returning with his "done to death" and erroneous arguments about why Lotro sucks, why Turbine are an inept company etc etc. Get a clue! We know, you don't like Lotro! You behave like it burned your house down or something. Go play AoC and leave us in peace.

Best. Reply. Ever.
If AoC is steak and wine, than the steak is raw and the wine is a bag of grapes. The idea is there, but the end product does not exist yet.
Can't agree more about the Steak part hehe
When did they start serving wine and steak at the homless shelter?
Then AoC is like a cheap Chinese buffett. It looks appetizing and you take alot of it in but you'll be hungry for something else an hour later.
