Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion Expansion

KoltraneKoltrane Member UncommonPosts: 1,049

Ubisoft and Wolfpack Studios have announced the next expansion for Shadowbane.  The expansion, entitled Throne of Oblivion, is scheduled for a November 30 release.

SAN FRANCISCO - September 9, 2004 - Ubisoft, one of the world's top game publishers, announced today the Shadowbane: Throne of OblivionTM  expansion pack will be available at a manufacturer's retail price of $19.99 on November 30. The expansion for the critically acclaimed massively multiplayer online (MMO) game Shadowbane®  will feature an entirely new realm and rulership system that allows players to seize and vie for control of sections of the game world.

"Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion brings guild warfare and city sieging to an exciting new level with a strategic end-game that is unprecedented in the genre of MMO games. 'Build an Empire' was one of the early rallying cries of Shadowbane and with this expansion, our players can do exactly that," said Frank Lucero, Shadowbane's producer. "Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion brings with it the new Vampire Race, new classes and disciplines, each with special powers and abilities designed to enrich PvP combat. Additionally, graphical improvements and extensive refinements to the existing siege system will enrich play and improve performance."

In addition to the new strategic systems, Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion will feature extensive new player options centered around an invasion from the Lands of the Dead. Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion marks the first time in an MMORPG that players can play Vampire characters. The Vampires' clothing and armor will spotlight their supernatural power and allure and demonstrate the appeal of these creatures while exploring a new visual direction for Shadowbane. Their unique powers, strengths, and weakness will add new layers and tactics to the Shadowbane PvP landscape.

New classes, including the Nightstalker, Necromancer, and disciplines including Vampire bloodlines and four new siege disciplines will also debut in Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion. Existing classes and disciplines will be undated to account for the arrival of the undead legions, and new weapons will add new dimensions to the existing power dynamic, forcing players to make new strategic decisions.

Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion will also feature graphical enhancements, shown off to their fullest in new adventuring areas with all-new high-level content.

Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion is pending rating by the ESRB and more information can be found on the official Shadowbane community Website, The Chronicle of Strife: chronicle.ubi.com.

when you think of shadowbane.. you think.. what could of been..Now that they got the bugs mostly fixed.. they severely need a new graphics engine.. like.. bust down the current one and re-build imo.. not just improvements.

Wow, look another junky expansion. Someone has no shame.

I will guess this is the LAST expansion they put out for shadowbane before it goes under completely..

Who the hell in their right mind is going to be playing Shadowbane when EQ2 , WoW , Mourning , Dark and light , WISH , and whatever else will be out to play.

    Well let's examine that....

EQ2 ---- Not appealing to PvP fans.
    WoW ---- EQ2 Redux
Mourning --- Going the way of Dragon Empires, and they have some really bad design decisions. Go read their site on Bloodlines. Even their fans think a lot of it is nutty and poorly thought out.
Dark and Light --- When is the last time they did anything? Vapor.
Wish --- I'll be very surprised if this title is not canceled by Winter.

So ummm yea, that really doesn't leave a lot of options for people who want PvP without a lot of tedious grind on PvM, or huge level caps that make PvP completly unbalanced unless you macro or PvM 24/7.

That being said... man, does the graphic engine ever suck. It's pretty much the same since the beginning of open beta (the first open beta, 3 years before release) and it really cannot support the Empire Vs Empire conflict that they want to be.

This is a dark time for PvP fans who don't want to spend any signifigant amount of time killing shoddy AI, before they can PvP.

No I didn't forget Dark Fall, Dark Fall is vapor. It's not even listed on MMORPG.com anymore.

Not exactly sure what site you checked ByteBlock.....Darkfall is certainly listed as a game in-developement on MMORPG list AND has its own forum.  It may yet prove to be vapor but MMORPG.com has it as alive :)

And it's soundly kicking the news waves from Tasos on a regular basis.

It is far from an extinguished light.

Shadowbane is built for a niche. It is the only MMORPG on the market with full-scale open pvp. The only other RPG created or in development with similar ideas is Darkfall. We have no release date for DF, so I shall stick with Shadowbane until then. I welcome the addition of new content, new possibilities, new intricacies in the combat system to learn.

Despite what people said, I did not mind the first expansion for Shadowbane. Instead of ordering online, I went to GameStop a month after it released and bought three copies of the expansion from the back room for $15 total.

If you were me, you'd be arrogant too.

The above is a false statement, EvE is also full open PvP.

Don't know what website you're on.  To listen to you, everything is going to fail except the very largest titles.  How miserable would that be?
