To me, it does not even matter that AoC is worse than WoW or LotRO, as even if it were better, Gaute's comment is totally unprofessional and in poor taste.
It is fine to compare one's game to another's in a positive light, stating how they compare and contrast, but insulting it outright with lame forum trash talk is just incomprehensibly rude. This guy, being a game director, should know that more than anyone.
In all of WoW's time at the top, never have I ever seen Blizzard make negative remarks towards another company's product, even though if anyone could justify doing so, they could. Why not? Because Blizzard has class and confidence, and does not need to take potshots at others to trick themselves and the public into thinking they have a good game.
Anyway, just one more reason not to play AoC - you avoid management who is up its own ass thinking they have a gem that is so good it is misunderstood and underappreciated, while failing to recognize their game lacks compared to polished titles.

In addition don't forget, it is AoC that tried to lure players on their boobs and gore and had one of the biggest adv campaign. I never saw any commercial on a steak restaurant, but I see one on McDonald all day on TV.

Yep, you know a game is going to Blow as hard as Blownan does when all it has to offer is T&A and a bunch of elitest devs lying about whats actually in the game. The lack of open beta was a clear signal the AoC was not going to be good. Not that you'd know it from all the PvP happy little rubber people who like to swamp every other game's forums with how "great" it is.
Let him laugh. Let him make his little jokes. Just wait. The box promises things the game does not deliver. I have been in contact with the Illinois Attorney General, Consumer Frauds division. Can you say "class action?"
I have to laugh at you seriously. How many of you people have made this threat of class action lawsuits against gaming companies? How many have come to fruition? I will tell you how many.. NONE
But go ahead and try to bring a class action lawsuit against Funcom and lets see just how far you get. My guess would be nowhere.
I like AoC, I am taking my time in game and not rushing anything. My main just hit level 40 and I probably won't be 50 for about another 2 months so by then they should have alot of the features in that for some reason or another didn't make the release date.
One thing that amazes me is how much gamers whine like little children who didn't get that candy bar at the checkout lane in the grocery store. Software development is a tricky business (rightfully so with MMOs and single player games). Sometimes a feature just can't make it in for release. Crap happens and they said that stuff that was promised will be put in the game and they will.
Patience is the key word here and if you have no patience online gaming is definately not for you or anyone else like you.
Are you implying that we should wait for a game to mature, after we've purchased the game for $49 and playing a monthly fee?
I don't know about you, but I already have a lvl 80 Conq a lvl 64 Priest of Mitra and I found this game pretty boring. There is little to do after I hit lvl 80 and that only took a little over a couple of weeks and I didnt't even play that much.
But what really annoys me is people telling me to just accept the bugs and missing features. I feel the industry is lowing it's standard because there people are willing to accept and defend the lowered standards.
I can accept some bugs and some missing features, but AoC likes to advertise amazing features, which are frankly, not there. And they continue to do so for more features, that may or may not make it into the game in the far future.
In their own analogy - AoC promises to serve Aged high quality wine but instead we were served with a cheap imitation that has the same label.
Players are angry because they question and demand quality.
I appreciate software developement is a tricky business, but making promises that cannot be kept and setting goals that is not met in time, is definitely the fault of the company that is making them. They are purposely publiclizing features that may and not may make it into the game, to give the illusion that there are more in the game then there really is.
AoC is awesome. They took the hamburger combat from LOTRO and WoW and turned it into steak combat that takes 5 times as long to accomplish the exact same thing. Pure genius.
His analogy would hold alot more water if AOC launched in a much better state and actually have all features present and working properly. Since it didn't, well I just take it with a grain of salt.

Yet, content for LOTRO was missing between levels 30-50. LOTRO was stable, AoC was stable. But, missing content seems to be the norm for most MMO releases now.
Luckily for LOTRO, the follwing month saw Evendim for that 30+ grind. AoC, still has nothing.
I think Gaute really wanted the game to be that steak, as it has the right motives. The problem is the execution is off. Funcom's execution to be precise.
But, I always felt I was having more fun while I leveled in AoC, and it kept me entertained for longer periods. I always seemed to give up after an hour of play in LOTRO. I just did not feel involved in the world Turbine created.
I sure did enjoy the EA LOTR games though. I would love to see those models in LOTRO, with their interfaces as well. That would fix it right up.
Ah well, here is hoping MoM makes some major strides to remove the tedium I feel in LOTRO.
Well since my other post got deleted...suppose it wasn't that constructive anyway.
What he's trying to say is that people want something new, they want a break from all the MMORPG WoW clones. Maybe AoC is different, and has some features not seen in other games. That's great and all, but its not the right direction. MMORPG's just aren't one game, they are (well they should be) many games rolled into one. You wanna craft, and do nothing else, you can. You wanna do combat, and nothing else, you can. You want to stand around and bullshit with other players all day long, the game needs to cater to that type of gamer. It needs to be created for every single type of gamer there is. Not an easy task, but will need to be done now, or later. It is completely inevitable. MMORPG's are the gateway to virtual reality; the game of all games. Any game developer who works in the MMORPG genre that doesn't believe in this will be left behind. They can't possibly understand why players want more, more, more. The only thing to do is give it to them, give them more freedom. I want a game where I can do whatever the fuck I want, everyone does. Can I blast that building into a million pieces? Yes. Can I shoot random citizens, yes. Can I drive my car off the top of a building, into another building, get out and start shooting the guy who was chasing me who is only halfway between the two buildings, YES. That's fun, because now everyone is living out every single dream they've had with every film they've ever seen on the silver screen. That's what people want, and that's what you're going to give them; be it now, or later. As I said before, its inevitable. Best thing a developer can do right now is capitalize on the games of tomorrow instead of the games of today. When that starts happening, we will start buying.

More BS from the ultimate Lotro hater. There was NEVER a lack of content between 35-50. Go back to AoC and leave us be. If it's soooooooo amazing, why do you even feel the need to try and tear another game down?

Chock full of stuff to do from the word go, before you spout anymore BS, I suggest you do some research.
Only difference now is that you have several choices as to where you level past 30 unlike Failcom's Blownan.

"There is a serious flaw with Lotro. At around L30-35 and upwards you basically run out of quests possible to complete solo. The remaining quests are fellowship quests"
"There are fewer solo quests available and, although you can still get by with virtually any ad hoc group of players, you start to feel the pull toward a more balanced party. Leveling really starts to slow down towards the late 20's and by the time you have reached the early 30's you will probably be out of quests."
As well, there were no raids in launch at all. Had to wait until Evendim to even run a single raid
"It will add a vast new area for players to explore, Evendim, which will offer more than 60 quests to get stuck into, plus lots of content for players over level 30 - including the first major raid in the game"
So, maybe you just joined the game and see the year of content that has been added. The fact remains, LOTRO was empty for the higher levels for content, except for forced grouping, at launch, and then no raids to speak of.
The fact that on the LOTRO forums, they even had a discussion of quest issues, difficulties, etc. Turbine even knew there were problems with the higher levels.
I subbed LOTRO for 3 months, playing casually, and never felt like I had run out of content or that there wasn't anything to do.
I played Conan casually for only 2 weeks and felt that the content completely died at lvl 40-50.
You can't even compare the two games, Conan is in a whole new league of incompleteness. The fast rate of advancement only made it that much more apparent.
At the end of the day it doesn't even really matter whether or not I thought the 1-20 content in AoC was decent, which I did. Because it only lasted for a week at most. And by mmo standards, thats pretty worthless.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Do your own research next time. Content was a major complaint.
Again, nothing you have said is relevant. One article says there werent enough Quests to SOLO to 50 and this is an MMO, so you have no realistic expectation of being able to solo to 50 (even though I did on my second toon). The second article goes on about a lack of RAIDING which has nothing to do with content but is rather, a personal preference.
You still havent answered my question as to why you act as if Lotro has burned your house down. Seriously, you are supposedly 45 years old, get a grip and go play something you like. Stop floundering around here with your BS posts. If you have this much faux negativity to spread about Lotro, you should be able to find at least equal quantites of true faults that exist in your beloved blownan.
Move on.
kthxbye

PS : I would wager it is you who is new to the game (or just ignorant) judging by your consistent lack of knowledge and insight. I've played since day one (and was in beta for over 6 months) on the Euro and US servers, I have 4 lvl 50 toons and several 30 - 40 +. I think I know a little more about it than you.
Further to that I REALLY didnt like it at first but I am objective enough to admit that my initial dislike had NOTHING to do with a lack of content as quite simply put, there wasn't one.
PPS : In fact both those articles are complaining about a lack of SOLO quests (again I never had a problem here and that is not a lack of content even if it did exist, which I am not conceding it did). If you want to solo all the time, go play Neverwinter, n00b. Its an MMO FFS.
A blog post and a two news stories complaining about the lack of 35+ solo content when the game launched is not impressive. Especially since there is more 30-50 solo content than any one character could get to without doing gray quests now. Anyone actually playing the game knows that.
The high level solo content was a bit thin when the game launched. However there was plenty to do if you were willing to group. In fact I would say even most solo players didn't get to 35 fast enough for it to be a problem. I was pretty hardcore about the game and I was only 36 when Evindim was added. So I personally didn't ever run out of content. And LoTRO didn't have any retard bugs like male and female toons hitting for different damage, a crafting system that crashes you to the desktop, or a castle building system where all of your guild's cash can just go "poof."
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Yea LotrO lacked solo content 35-50 at release... but I dont think Turbine intended the game to be solo friendly.. the way the classes are set up, the conjunctions, the slow combat.. its all because they wanted to do a group heavy game... then they found out that alot of players want to solo so the made zones with solo content so that anyone could get to lvl 50...
and 1 more thing... actually LotrO had 2 raids at release: Bogberth and the master of Imlad balchorth...
and where did turbine say that this would be a raid-heavy game?
so all this time Openedge have been trolling the LotrO forum just because he couldnt find enough solo-quests at release... poor thingy
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

So you liked EA LOTR and dislike Turbine LOTRO? I can see now what kind of gamer are you. Anyway the content was not an issue. I hit 50 before any content update, and never had to grind. I joined a group a few times, but 90% of the time I was being alone. (mainly because there were almost no players at that time around my level)

I think this is one of the major reasons I liked EA LOTR, better than LOTRO
Turbine model above
(EDIT: Seems only MMORPG.com hates picasa web picture links, they keep breaking...picture is located here
The visual models just seemed more realistic, and moved more fluidly. This is a preference for a more realistic look, and not so cartoony.
The model shot for LOTRO is also at the highest quality, so that was not a problem. Just, the overall design. As well, the animations were not as fluid as I would have liked either.
As to the content question, yes, solo was possible if you wanted to repeat Kill 10 x quests ad nauseum. Evendim was the first patch to allow more quest based leveling is all my statement is saying. Groups were a problem during launch as not everyone was hitting level 30, so anyone who did, was out of luck, or stuck in LFG for eons. So, content for some players was quite shy above level 30 +.
I wanted to show some of the posts by players during that period of launch on the LOTRO forums, but come to find out the forums have been preened of any data before Dec 30th of 07. That is a lot in the way of missing posts. Makes me wonder. As this is about what...3 updates in?
The fact that so many other also felt the same though, showed there was a problem in the 30's and above for LOTRO.
I am also not saying AoC is better. I have uninstalled the game due to concerns over Funcoms operation of the game. I just feel anyone who thought LOTRO was complete is just a little off also.
It seems he is refering to Gautes horrid comparison, not Gaute's business savy. His business savy is why a half ass game can be released and you still have fanbois defending it like it was their retarded child.

Not to feed the troll, but I thought it worth pointing out that no MMORPG is or should ever be complete. They are (at least to some degree) evolving worlds, are they not?
I have not myself played AoC, but I think the predominant reason people are bashing it or any other MMO isn't that they don't have the patience to wait for the bugs to be ironed out or content added, it's that they are paying every month to wait for bugs to be ironed out. After paying single-player price for the software in the first place.
I purposely did not buy AoC precisely because all the beta testers said it had problems and I'll wait until the bugs are ironed out and features are added. Then I'm sure it will be an awesome game. Unless it turns out like Tabula Rasa, which is sadly about as complete a failure as you can get. Talk about patience - the hardcore TR fanboi has to be the most patient sort of person in existence.

your all wrong.
the guys at funcom are going to be working at mcdonalds because of epic fail

I don't think your far off.

"There is a serious flaw with Lotro. At around L30-35 and upwards you basically run out of quests possible to complete solo. The remaining quests are fellowship quests"
30 Days of LOTRO
"There are fewer solo quests available and, although you can still get by with virtually any ad hoc group of players, you start to feel the pull toward a more balanced party. Leveling really starts to slow down towards the late 20's and by the time you have reached the early 30's you will probably be out of quests."
As well, there were no raids in launch at all. Had to wait until Evendim to even run a single raid
Eurogamer

Yea LotrO lacked solo content 35-50 at release... but I dont think Turbine intended the game to be solo friendly.. the way the classes are set up, the conjunctions, the slow combat.. its all because they wanted to do a group heavy game... then they found out that alot of players want to solo so the made zones with solo content so that anyone could get to lvl 50...
and 1 more thing... actually LotrO had 2 raids at release: Bogberth and the master of Imlad balchorth...
and where did turbine say that this would be a raid-heavy game?
so all this time Openedge have been trolling the LotrO forum just because he couldnt find enough solo-quests at release... poor thingy
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

So you liked EA LOTR and dislike Turbine LOTRO? I can see now what kind of gamer are you. Anyway the content was not an issue. I hit 50 before any content update, and never had to grind. I joined a group a few times, but 90% of the time I was being alone. (mainly because there were almost no players at that time around my level)
REALITY CHECK

I think this is one of the major reasons I liked EA LOTR, better than LOTRO
Turbine model above

and then EA

Now THAT is funny!
A tiny mind is a tidy mind...
