AOC is not going to flop. It simply has too much going for it and alot of money backing it up. I too wasn't thrilled with the game and cancelled my sub after the first month, but my reasons are personal,nothing against the game. After a few more months I intend on looking at it again and maybe finish leveling my POM.
Server merger isnt going to happen anytime soon either. When I was running around the major cities I could hardly move due to the sheer amount of people running around. Please stop the rumour mongering .

I think that's the problem. The internet is so filled with garbage that all someone needs to do is to suggest something and eventually people start believing it.
Over my years perusing game boards I have actually seen people just pose a question only to then eventually see it posted as truth on another board within a week.
I mean "sure" why not. It's possible that the dev's could consider server mergers if they felt they were needed but to be honest, unless someone from Funcom actually posts something about merges, then all it is is a suggestion from a forum or other source and nothing more.
The only other way is that it would have to be leaked from a Funcom insider. But other than that, it's just more internet "stuff".

There are servers out there that were already pointed out in this very thread that don't even reach 300 people playing during peak hours. There were some servers though that reach around 3000 on during peak hours, but this thread obviously wouldn't pertain to them. The reason there won't be server merges soon though is because no MMORPG ever has merged servers this early after launch no matter how low the numbers were on those servers. The low server populations is not rumor mongering like you said but this thread is definitely rumor mongering.
I think the game will only get better. I do play it and sure it does have some issues but they are not so bad that they can't be fixed and they are doing just that.
IM subbed for aoc, No need any server mergers too packed and full across all usa servers except 1 pve server thats nearly dead. Funcom dont need a server merger anytime soon.

Just noticed this... in regards to that, why is the title of this thread still "servers merged in under two months..."? You heard rumors in the first place that even a sensible person who dislikes the game would realize are not true (if the game was doing that bad in the first place, which it isn't, from a marketting sense server merges are certainly not going to help make the game look successful). If it was just a rumor and you are so disinterested in the game then why would you make such a ridiculous claim as truth?

Sadly the problems are bad and the biggest issues are memory leaks and lagspikes. Just take a look at the month of June and the updates. . . how many of the updates actually fixed something? It seems to me that they actually broke 2 classes one being the necromancer and the guardian. The necromancer is now a waste to play and the guardian's only one powerful combo was overreach and now look at it? Shit take a look at the 48vs48 that funcom was aiming towards . . won't happens since no more then 20vs 20 without lag. Melee combat is a waste since you can only pull the combo off at a set amount of time leaving the " Skill " part out and making ranged classes dominate as of now . .. and ToS is still op'd.

If I was, or if I did, I would not be frequenting these forums. The GAMEPLAY failed to hold my interest, and the way that Funcom is running things is horrible. However, the game's progress and state are of great interest to me because I see this as a major point in the progression in MMORPGs.

How AoC fares come October, when other games like Aion and WAR are set to be released/beta, will be another benchmark in the progression of this genre of games that I love. If the game tanks, it will be a lesson to Funcom and other gaming companies not to release a buggy unfinished game, and then blatantly treat your customerbase like crap until they leave you.

...You clearly don't play on a PvP server, or you'd have necromancers eating your face after the latest update. My "overpowered" Tempest can't hold a candle to a properly specced necromancer. Nor can anyone, if you sniff around the PvP boards. Even one necromancer was bummed that they'd become easymode.

I seriously doubt that AoC will retain 400-500k subs. So far the game doesn't have a lot of replayability and people max out pretty fast. I would guess it will be lucky to maintain 100k subs after all the hype dies down. Check back in 2-3 months....

they lucky if they have 200k subs now, about 10 people from our guild in lotro started a guild in AOC at release, guess what they disbanded 2 weeks ago and all back to LOTRO.
most people i know subscribe for a period of 3 months. the fact this people may already cancelled is irrevelant until the end of august, for all effects they are counted as active subs until that moment. IMHO they have presently about 500 k active subs tho, i feel 50% of those have cancelled or not plan to extent their subs.
so in the end we kind of agree, the real player base is about 200 to 250 K AT THE MOMENT and probably will decrease to 150k in 3 or 4 months (there are a lot of rabid fan boys that will take anything no matter what until a more hyped game comes along)

I played on cimmeria and i was referring to the PVE side of a necro, forgot to add that. Necromancers were alright at PvP but if a ToS got first attack you could pretty much consider you're self done. Another thing, sniffing around those boards is like walking on a mine field.

Things like the SWG-NGE fiasco, HG:L and Tabula Rasa launches, the abominable DnL launch... all of these moments in MMORPG history are interesting to me, because these online games are my hobby. How AoC fares come October, when other games like Aion and WAR are set to be released/beta, will be another benchmark in the progression of this genre of games that I love. If the game tanks, it will be a lesson to Funcom and other gaming companies not to release a buggy unfinished game, and then blatantly treat your customerbase like crap until they leave you.
In hindsight though, perhaps I should have just put a damned question mark at the end of this thread's title to discourage the rabid fanbois who see the topic and post crap like "OMGWTF!?! YOU THINK SERVERS ARE MERGING?! U R STOOPIDZ!"

yeah, a question mark is actually what would clear things up, thanks. When a thread reads, "Servers merged in two months..." and the following post says "thoughts on this...?" that means to me exactly how it reads. But that's pretty much untrue, it was just miscommunication on your own part.
I'm not sure what my comment had to do with you insulting me... I did not insult you here, no reason to act rudely back. In fact I don't understand why you posted half of the stuff you posted towards me, it doesn't really apply to me. Your likings/dislikings of the game are practically symmetrical to my thinking on the subject(s). I was just stating that it gives the opposite effect when people make threads trying to spread rumors, which, your original post did seem to be making. We have to look at things as they are. Comimg here and talking about 1 million subs is ridiculous, the same way that not all servers are packed. BOth in the US or Europe servers, there are some that are in fact packed and others with low populations.
AOC is not dead, not even dieying but also is not the super cream many pretend it is. It is an above average mmorpg wih some good elements and some not so good aspects. Like any other above average MMORPG, it hopes to have a retention rate of around 50%. Assuming the numbers FUNCOM itself provided are truth (between 900 000 to 1000 000 units sold), AOC should have an active sub number of about 400 to 500 k. if that number goes up or down , only the future will tell.
And there will not be any server merge right soon because of the psicological aspect of it, even tho some servers might currently need one.
I seriously doubt that AoC will retain 400-500k subs. So far the game doesn't have a lot of replayability and people max out pretty fast. I would guess it will be lucky to maintain 100k subs after all the hype dies down. Check back in 2-3 months....

they lucky if they have 200k subs now, about 10 people from our guild in lotro started a guild in AOC at release, guess what they disbanded 2 weeks ago and all back to LOTRO.
most people i know subscribe for a period of 3 months. the fact this people may already cancelled is irrevelant until the end of august, for all effects they are counted as active subs until that moment. IMHO they have presently about 500 k active subs tho, i feel 50% of those have cancelled or not plan to extent their subs.
so in the end we kind of agree, the real player base is about 200 to 250 K AT THE MOMENT and probably will decrease to 150k in 3 or 4 months (there are a lot of rabid fan boys that will take anything no matter what until a more hyped game comes along)
Actually, im currently between MMO's because AoC failed to hold my attention. I had just heard rumors of a server merge happening and was hoping for confirmation.

I played on cimmeria and i was referring to the PVE side of a necro, forgot to add that. Necromancers were alright at PvP but if a ToS got first attack you could pretty much consider you're self done. Another thing, sniffing around those boards is like walking on a mine field.
